Idle musings

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Having watched too much HGTV with my sister, I'm now wondering how many contractors who do major renovation have uncovered a body over the course of their career.

What unnecessary questions are you pondering, F!S?

I am pondering if there is a polite way to tell someone they eat weirdly and loudly and if they could maybe not make that vacuum sucking in noise when they eat. I don't think there is.

I used to wonder that about people who buy storage lockers.

Are there any transmen who are into the forced feminization kink?

Re: Idle musings

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
OH MY GOD. I was just last night thinking about how fucked up I am, as a transman who is really super into forced feminization and domination. My mind is blown that you posted this today.

Would that man with two penises be able to have sex with that woman with two vaginas.

I've wondered about that too. Also, if she did, could she have children? Healthy children? Would the baby get confused on the way down?

If the channels under the discovery network have somewhat recently become so reality tv-y or if I just didn't notice before.

I think it has been a couple of years, but it has gotten worse recently.

It's been a slow slide over the last few years. Disappointing.

It's gotten worse. I also hate how they air a show from one network on a completely different one. I realized the other day that the Treehouse Masters marathon I had been watching was on Animal Planet O_o

I think they've slowly morphed that way in the past few years. I remember there being pretty much only documentaries on Discovery when I was a kid.

Same thing happened to the History Channel. I remember throwing my hands up in frustration every time I would check on it and they'd be showing Ice Road Truckers. Every. Time.

What to tell a prospective landlord asking for job and previous landlord references that you're still living with your parents and the reason you're moving in the first place is because your first job is in a different city. I have neither job nor landlord references. Now how do I say that without sounding like a total loser?

Re: Idle musings

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Is there a chance you could get your neighbour or friend (i.e. no one directly related) to write a character reference for you? Do that, and then be honest with your prospective landlord. Good luck and congrats on the job!

For the job, do you have a contact at the job you're moving for that you can give them? I think usually all that landlords really care about is that you have someone who can verify that you do, in fact, have some sort of money coming in regularly. And I think most employers are willing to do that.

For not having a previous landlord, just be up front about it, really. Honestly, who cares if your landlord thinks that you're a loser? They're a landlord. I think as long as you're upfront about your situation, a lot of people will roll with it, especially if you're professional and generally seem responsible. If they don't, they don't, and you keep looking. Just, "I've been living with family at the moment, and I don't really have any previous landlord references that I can give you."

Good luck to you! I know it's hard looking for this stuff and getting it all sorted out, and I hope that you can work it all out.

When I got my first apartment, I explained to the landlord that I was moving there for grad school and had a job with the university. I don' t think I had to prove it in any way. I got my mom to be my reference. I got the (really shitty) apartment and it worked great.

Come to think of it, due to changes in manager/owner right before I moved out of that place, I don't think I had any solid landlord references for my current landlord, eiter. That also didn't stop me from getting my (much nicer) apartnent.

Just explain the situation and offer family or teachers as refferences.

Re: Idle musings

(Anonymous) 2014-01-22 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Be forthright about it? As a landlord, I admit that I'd probably be leery of someone with no job or landlord references, if only because I've been burned by people who claimed "I've only ever owned my own home up till now" or "I'm an entrepreneur, so I don't have a job reference because I've always worked for myself." But all I really need to know is that you have a job and can afford my apartment or little house, and that you have a clean record on Iowa Courts on Line (i.e., no eviction lawsuits).

I've been wondering what makes certain fandoms choose which name - first or last - to call each character. I'm mainly in anime fandoms, where it's a confusing thing because surnames are used more often in Japan between acquaintances when given names would normally be used instead in someone in an English-speaking fanbase's country. So like in school settings, students in the show will call each other Surname, but sometimes the fandom will call them Given Name even if that name is rarely used in the show itself... But only some of them. Other characters will be Surname to the fandom. I want to know what causes one or the other to catch on in fandom! Whichever name's easier to write or remember? Something in the type of feelings the fandom tends to have towards the character?

... Dangan Ronpa fandom, I'm especially thinking of you.

I've always wondered the age demographics of the asexual/aromantic people on tumblr, because around 80/90% of them I've seen tend to skew very young, and I can't help but think that they are going to discover that their sexuality is fluid once they're older.

I mean, that's not a bad thing, but it still makes me curious.

I've been wondering all day how close you would have to be to Saturn to resolve its rings (not the separate rings, just the fact that rings are there) with the naked eye and where that would put you in the solar system relative to the orbits of various planets. Like, if you were orbiting Jupiter, could you see them (provided the planets were close to alignment)? I have no actual need for this information, but I can't drop the idea and THE INTERNET WON'T TELL ME!

I've been pondering what really is a healthy calorie range to aim for every day. I've been aiming for 1200, but I'm wondering if I can just stay under a more general 1500 if I'll still maintain my weightloss goals or if that's too much for my rather sedentary life. The internet has many thoughts on the subject.

Inspired by the thread below, I was pondering how, in ages before shaving was mainstream, whether people favoured and had names for specific body hair patterns.

Like, did women secretly hope there was a tree pattern, or a trail, or what under the starched shirt across the dining table?

Did he hope for a dusting, or for hairless patches by the thighs, or a thicker rug under the billowing skirts as they danced?

And, of course, did the various types HAVE NAMES? As in, "Oh, have you heard, DEAR Cornelia has said her husband has a flange?" "That dreadful woman, always boasting to make us jealous; I'm sure he only has a fringelette!"
