Me too. The incest kink was in me all along, though. I really like the distinctly epic flavor some of the fics about them take on, as they blend elements from both myths and comics. The modern tone in other MCU fics bores me.

Well, it's more pseudo incest in this case, but yeah. I don't where my incest kink came from, but I got one too.

What the hell? They were raised as brothers. That's just as much incest as biological (psychologically maybe more so than two biological brothers not raised together).

Sex between siblings without blood relation is typically called pseudo incest.

You go OP. That is a very good pairing to have. Though there has been a lack of long good fic for them of late. :(

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Loki and Thor, in Marvelverse, aren't actually related, right?

Which begs the question: which bothers you (general you) more? Incest between siblings who grew up separately and therefore don't really have "family" feelings for one another, or incest between siblings who grew up together but have no blood relationship?

Let's assume no one is having biological kids. Easy, when it's a same-sex pairing.
philstar22: (Thor)

[personal profile] philstar22 2014-01-25 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Oh for crying out loud. They were raised as siblings. Loki was adopted, yes, so they aren't biologically related, but they are every bit as much brothers as biological brothers are. Both versions are incest. Which people have a personal issue with or can/can't ship is another matter. But they are actually related.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Err... when did I say it wasn't incest? What is with this defensiveness, dude?

"But they are actually related." - no they aren't. they are brothers, yes, but not related.

Never assuming there is no chance of kids when Loki is invovled XD He has been known to birth some of his own children in mythology.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I find it odd that everyone seems to talk about having an incest kink. There must be other people like me out there who are totally indifferent to the incestuous aspect, finding it neither a turn-on or a turn-off? For me it's just sort of there.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Kinks you don't have are hard to understand. I don't think there are many kinks that are an exception to this rule.
philstar22: (Thor)

[personal profile] philstar22 2014-01-25 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Don't personally ship (if nothing else, I don't personally find Loki all that attractive), but nothing wrong with an incest kink. I think a lot of people discover their kinks accidentally through fanfic.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well it's not like they have much competition when it comes to other MCU ships, in terms of being interesting. (The other popular MCU ships seem to be pairings that have little actual interaction in canon)

That's overstating it a bit. Pepper/Tony, Jane/Thor, and Steve/Bucky are all popular MCU ships, and those three pairs interact in canon plenty. Depending on your definition of "little actual interaction," you could possibly count Steve/Tony, Clint/Natasha, and Bruce/Tony, as well.

I love most the canon MCU ships, but I'm more interested in reading about Thor and Loki than the others. Maybe because they'll never be anything resembling canon and incest pairings in fiction fascinate me (and, well, Thor and Loki's relationship in general interests me more than most the relationships in the MCU), but they're one of the pairings I ship most too. I get it.

Yay? As long as you acknowledge it is incest.

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-01-25 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to apologize ahead of time for how provocative that sounds, but I've spent quite some time recently arguing about how adoptive siblings are still siblings (someone who insisted I was lying by calling that annoying kid in my doorway currently pestering me for gum my little brother when he found out our parents aren't married and we're not blood related at all). And my first glance into the thread shows we're already seeing "pseudo-incest" again, which may really just be an attempt to justify the pairing for those uncomfortable with incest but still smacks of the toxic "adoptive family =/= REAL family" attitude that so many of us despise for some very good reasons.

I'm not a fan of the incest, but I LOVE fics with their brotherly relationship being at the center of it, and any not-too-blatantly-shippy/sexual art about them. I can absolutely see why you love them so much, OP. Ship on! :D

Seriously, this. Everything you just said. And brother fics are the best.

Re: Yay? As long as you acknowledge it is incest.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't comment in this thread before, but I've argued that the pairing is not 'really' incest elsewhere way back in the day when the first movie had just come out.
That had nothing to do with the fact that I don't consider adopted family or patchwork families as real family, or that I was squicked by Thor & Loki being brothers and somehow tried to justify shipping them to myself. It's just that where I live, a sexual relationship between siblings is only considered to *be* incest if they are either fully related by blood or half siblings, hence my initial confusion about fandom's insistence to call it incest despite the 'lack' blood relation.

Which is to tl;dr say I've been a dick about this back in the day out of ignorance and I'm sorry!

Re: Yay? As long as you acknowledge it is incest.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
It annoys me, too. Even my own family (some of which is non-biological) will occasionally make comments about so and so not being whoever's "real" kid/sibling/whatever, and it really bothers me. I know in their case it's a purely semantic thing, and "real" is just shorthand for "biological" but I hate the implications.

My mom once referred to a family friend's adoptive daughter as "the little girl he's raising" and I'm like "...seriously?" The little girl he's raising? Also known as HIS DAUGHTER. Grrrr.

Of course when I mention this I'm just "reading too much into it" or "being too sensitive". :/

Re: Yay? As long as you acknowledge it is incest.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone mentioned above, I think it's not a matter of thinking (or not thinking or thinking less of) of people being siblings but not being blood related, or vice versa, in the case of incest making the difference to it being okay or not. I think it's more a question of where the squick lies for every individual. Some are more on the side that blood relation is more important (genetically speaking, yes, they should not have children), some are more on the side that the emotional connection is more important (because really, where do you draw the line when you're already emotionally involved in another way).

Personally I think that as long as the relationship is voluntary on both side and other people are not harmed (as in, they don't have children because even just speaking genetically it can be harmful), I'd say go for it. Of course, it again depends on where you draw the line, I realise there are actually very few situations in which incest can be something that is not unhealthy, physically or mentally.

Well, as far as I know, they are one of the biggest pairings in the fandom so you've got no shortage of material.
