When you finally meet the person worthy of the word, you won't be embarrassed to say it.

It's cute that you think your ex-friend should GAF what you think about who she reconciles with, now that you're ex-friends and all. I can see why the friendship is over--you sound manipulative and high-maintenance.

Have you seen anonymously's posting history. Nothing there to challenge my central thesis, everything to support it.

Hope that helps, god bless.

So you didn't just insult anonymously thoughtlessly, you really do think she's a whiner who lives in a sheltered world/whatever. Is that right?

Then why play dumb after she told you to tell her that to her face? Your previous comments were thinly veiled at best and you obviously meant them exactly as they came across, so why act as though anonymously was projecting? What kind of dick move is that?

nayrt

It sounds like she had given up on life and didn't care what happened to her anymore.

To complicate things.

I said what I said because it was my honest experience with everyone I knew who had previously made those complaints. I'm not going to back away from that experience simply because someone else holds that view, but it wasn't intended to be commentry specifically on her.

At that point if she took it personally that was reflective of projection on her part. After my one word post I noticed the avatar, and that she must have been the one with the chameleon avatar, and remember that everything I've seen of her previously exactly backed up my original general statements.

So it wasn't originally meant personally, but now I remember who they are I'm happy to stand by it and say it actually does apply accurately to them.

Re: What are you reading?

SA

You were a smart one, weren't you? :D I got my copy off some bargain book carrel at a Waldenbooks, probably more than 20 yrs ago now. I've dragged it through 4 or 5 moves and refuse to loan it out to anyone for fear that I'll never get another copy. I really love the book.

I've never met anyone who has read Oswald (or at least admitted they knew it) so thanks for commenting!

Hm. I'm not so sure you can pin that on feminism. They lobbied for (necessary) change in a blunt and simple time and change happened in the most blunt and simple terms possible. getting any social change to happen back then would have been like performing surgery with vaguely pointy rocks. "That arm needs to come off, let's give it a whack with this. Oh look he survived. Success!". Change happened but we can't expect it to have been clean or neat. I hold to my opinion that the fact that the system has not changed since is in part down to the fact that very few people seem to be interested in changing it.

Also, in regards to pinning this one on the feminists, it should be noted that the only reason these changes occurred in this way was because by the blunt and simple mind set of the time "Women need to take care of the babies, and we can't have women working a mans job, so let's change the divorce laws to support this." Women wanted change, Men wanted change that kept women in their roles, ergo a simple but inelegant solution was smashed together that some time later leaves men in a shitty position.

Also, women did need a better situation back then and the idea of blaming them for the mess left by the "solution" seems a bit like blaming the freed black slaves for the fact that no-one was doing the gardening. A change was necessary. we needed a better solution sure, but we also couldn't have let things stay as they were.

Finally, blaming feminism today for the actions of those women is as ridiculous as blaming men today for the sexism back then. Remember my "Blunt and simple" criticism of that time? that does not just to the men folk. Early suffragettes, while campaigning for womens rights also started up the white feather brigade that was designed to shame men who did not fight in the war. People back then just thought of things differently, and society has just moved on since then.

Wow. TLDR. Sorry.

As the only native speaker in my group of friends, I am constantly asked to edit people's shit for uni. This is not a problem for me - I'm a nice guy, and generally I'm cool with people just spotting me a cup of coffee in return.

Recently, I edited ENORMOUS CHUNKS of a friend's diploma thesis and didn't even get a verbal "thanks". And I didn't think much of it because everyone's stressed as hell when they're turning in their thesis.

But another friend gave her formatting help and I just heard that she got an enormous bouquet of flowers, chocolate, and a bottle of bubbly. And now I'm simultaneously stewing in some sort of jealous haze (damnit, why does SHE get the VIP thanks treatment and I didn't even merit a quick text?) and feeling super petty for feeling jealous and feeling mad abut their ability to MAKE me feel this ridiculous.

TL.DR: I'm super jealous that people I've helped only thanked other people who helped them and not me and feeling this way pisses me off.
