Re: Tell me what you like about yourself, FS

I'm good at expressing myself verbally, and I write things that people seem to like.

I'm pretty good at cooking/baking, and I excel at finding things... as long as they don't belong to me.

I like my eyes; they're brown with a ring of purple around the outer edge of the iris; [personal profile] mechanosapience says I'm a Mary Sue. :3

"It squicks me out" and "it's just gross" do make you sound more 12 than 27, OP. Sorry.

This. I've been recced the show, but the costumes are way too distracting for me. It's a neckbeard/vulgar combo for me.

If you're not enjoying it anymore, it's doubtful that the prospect of money will magically give you your inspiration back.

Re: Words you're not sure how they're pronounced

[personal profile] misty_anon 2014-03-05 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
I pronounce it 'nitch' because of this:

There's an Asimov short story in which a criminal, called Stein, uses a time machine to go forward in time so the statute of limitations prevents him being charged/jailed for his crime. A court case ensues as it's argued he didn't live through that time so the statute shouldn't apply. The ruling judge decides that until the law is modified to cover time machines, the time *has* passed, so the criminal can't be charged. He sums up his ruling with:

"A niche in time saves Stein."

Re: What Time of Day Does the Mail Arrive?

For years, mine always used to arrive sometime around 1 p.m.; now for months it hasn't come until after four.

Great! You too huh?

And that is awesome! And I promise to keep the French jokes to a minimum!

Which reminds me if I didn't want to go to Paris which city should I go to in France?

*dying*

This actually depends on a lot of things.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes the mailperson has to double up on routes (especially with the cutbacks). And if you get a new mailperson, they may decide to do the route differently (as far as I know, there is no one set way to do it - you can go for the furthest out and work in, you can start at the closest and go on, or you can make a rough circle).

14-16 is not skinny. Quit deluding yourself. I'm a size 16 and I know that I am overweight. There's no way I'd ever call myself skinny.

Nah it isn't too complicated... If you have sex with someone and then hang out with them afterwards you are exclusive if you don't it was an one night stand...

really tho, yes it is. But dating still seems like one of those things that only happens in movies, also cheerleading...

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
You may not be fat, but you're definitely overweight.

We do the whole friends and parties thing to meet new people as well, but not exclusively. If two people get to know each other at a party they'll probably make plans to see each other one on one.

Personally I can't imagine having sex with someone I barely know. People do it here but definitely not as a rule. Just makes me shudder.

Oh ... oh anon. I ... I don't know if we should. the missing y and insanenoodlyguy might find out.

S-stop. You're seducing me.

Re: I had a thought:

The movie thing - by which I assume we are talking about asking a stranger we just met out on a date - happens more in the movies than American real life. It's not that it never happens (and the "dating scene" for certain people in certain cities may consist mostly of this) but I think that, overall, most people meet their partners through mutual friends or at work or school. The difference might be that people go out and do "date stuff" before they definitely consider themselves a couple, even if they already know each other a bit.

:D Thank you!

Hell, I'm a straight guy and I don't like most fanservice. It feels cheap, dishonest, and skeevy. Worse, it's kind of offensive to me, because it feels like the creators have a really fucked-up image of what I, the straight guy, am like. They think I like cheap, dishonest, and skeevy, and that I consider tits or panty shots or whatever to be more important than narrative. That's a lousy thing to be called by strangers, you know?

That said, I do think there's ways to do fanservice well. When it doesn't come at the expense of story or character, when it feels authentic within the universe of the show, and when it's got a bit of self-awareness... then it's not so bad, and I can enjoy a little eye candy without feeling jerked out of the story or having my intelligence insulted.

Thanks! I learned something new today :)

Is everyone else second years, etc or do you single out first years because "men" is in the word?

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-03-05 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind saying I live in Los Angeles. Depending on neighborhood, I've seen mail delivered from 8 in the morning to 8 at night. *shrugs* Lotta homes, not enough mailmen. If there have been a lot of new homes built in the postal district recently, or if the post office recently fired/laid off a lot of people, this can cause mail to take quite a bit longer. Bad weather can also affect the delivery, as the mail need to stay dry, as well as mechanical issues with even a few mail trucks.

Re: Sleep disorders

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Understandable :)

The first I can recall was my first year of college. I've had most of my other symptoms, including sleep attacks, since I was a child, though. It's possible I had the hallucinations before too and don't remember. (In fact, I suspect this may be the case.)

They're not frequent. I have noticed that they are loosely, though not strictly, correlated with periods of stress. They almost exclusively happen when I wake up in the middle of the night, or occasionally when waking from daytime naps; I don't recall ever having them when waking normally in the morning. In fact, they sometimes give the sense that they are what woke me up. If it makes a difference, I can almost always tell when I'm dreaming, but these never feel like dreams at all. They feel more like panic attacks, in the way that you have this incredible certainty that something is real or happening, and you know it isn't good. If that makes any sense, at least. I'm not sure how helpful that is!
