Re: What Time of Day Does the Mail Arrive?

[personal profile] tamabonotchi 2014-03-05 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
My mail usually comes through in the afternoon. It was already here when I got home at 2, but sometimes it might be delivered 2-3pm, while UPS or Fedex have come earlier than that before.

Eh, I'd say KLK's one of the better anime currently airing, but I think many of the fans are overstating how great the show is and ignoring pretty obvious reasons why people wouldn't be interested in it.

And Hataraku Maou-sama's still funnier.

Re: Sleep disorders

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Sleep paralysis sucks. For years, I had episodes in which I would wake up and hear footsteps and people speaking in the hallway outside my room, which is not something you want to hear when you live alone. I'd even hear them taking a pee and washing their hands in the hall bathroom. The footsteps would get closer and closer to my door, and I'd lie there thinking "I've got to get up THIS MINUTE, I'll open the window and climb out"--and of course I couldn't move. Then I'd wake up for real.

Almost as creepy: when I switched rooms, it never happened again.

Wimmin? That is just sounds like a southern person trying to make their word a thing.

Re: To the people defending Jennifer Lawrence

Lol. Two of those examples up there don't even have anything to do with what she did or said, but rather society's reactions to other people. The rest is something you'd find any young twenty year old say and do who doesn't think before they act. It's not 'omg hdu offensive!!', but rather, 'you're acting like most other teens and twenty year olds'.

Maybe they started with "womyn", then suddenly realized Y is a male chromosome so they changed the Y to an X.

Re: Do you observe Lent? if so, what are you giving up this year?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Look, I don't want to be antagonistic, but isn't changing your behavior kind of the point?? Instead of focusing on "giving up" something only to put it right back into your life right after Lent's over, why not look at it as a way to improve your habits? Don't quit caffeine cold-turkey, you've got a chemical dependency. Set a goal for Lent to lessen the amount of it you consume, and maybe decrease it a bit for each week. Make yourself healthy in body and spirit, and don't beat yourself up if you slip because the struggle is all part of it; just keep trying. :)

Honestly, I'd be okay with that as an off-the-cuff joke by a coworker, PROVIDED THAT SHE'D JUST DELIBERATELY GAINED FIFTY POUNDS.

Jokes are context-dependent, and in this case the joke referenced a very specific thing: Bale's deliberate and rapid weight gain for the role.

SA

Should mention that I'm not opposed to reinstalling the entire game to play/help you out, or to play with anyone else, just someone would need to say the word. Not sure how helpful I would be to you in your position atm, unless I play conservatively/handicap myself.

None of these is as bad as "womban." (I saw that in a book once.) I couldn't stop reading it as "wombat."

I thought it looked vaguely Welsh.

Do you mean you have something similar to Scouts or something similar to Girl Scout Cookies? /is curious

Re: Sleep disorders

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2014-03-05 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
More helpful than you think. :) Thank you for sharing that with me, it does actually go a long way toward my understanding of the condition to hear people's experiences with it, and this is a comparatively rare one.

Cheers, OP. I hope you can continue to manage this, and that your quality of sleep in the future is good.

Re: Life's Little Annoyances

[personal profile] tamabonotchi 2014-03-05 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I hate how slow some people will be getting on the bus, paying fare, walking down the aisle, finding a seat, and getting off.

It's the absolute worst when the bus is running late, and they have to pull out their wallet to find their pass/money.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
DA Maybe some people are motivated to do what they want by financial reward, more than others. Maybe they're poor. Maybe they're often tired. Maybe they hate having to choose. Maaaan, I hate the "noble artist willing for work for nothing for the glory of ~creativity" shit that you're perpetuating. It's so ~middle class~.

Yeah I hate that. Especially when it is not that serious of a word like damn or hell. OR if they are talking about how they hate the word f*** or something.

Oh I meant the same thing about meeting at a friend's house before going out, we do that often here for the same reason, but that's also a place you might meet people they know but you don't yet. It sounds like all the lead-up to a relationship over there is just done in group settings rather than one on one. And the difference of sex defining the start of a relationship.

Always willing to answer awkward cultural questions. Anything in particular about America that you just NEED to understand right now? :P

Yeah, me too. A hell of a country, that one.

I appreciate it. I wouldn't be able to counterattack anyway; I don't know any Norwegian jokes.

Bordeaux is the first that comes to mind but I may be biased since it's the city I'm currently living in; nevertheless, it's part of the UNESCO World Heritage. There's also Lille (good beer, nice people, germanic architecture) in the North, Rennes (best crêpes in the world, green hills around) in the North East, Lyon (nice night life, friendly atmosphere) in the East, Nice and Cannes (touristy but warm and colorful) in the South East and Toulouse (the friendliest but loudest people, as well as the funniest accent) and Montpellier (very friendly too, and their streetcars have flowers painted on them) in the South East.

Excellent reply. I hate the trolls that like to argue that the world is made up of all black and white situations with no deviations. Everything must be yes or no, no exceptions!

Both actually. But what I was referring to was the girl scout cookies.

The scouts are something we have a version of but that isn't gender specific either.

I usually don't like the term mary/gary stu because it's often used for a character the user doesn't like or simply a bad character but...

"Kamijou Touma is a high school student in Academy City, with a power called the Imagine Breaker that can negate all magic, psychic, and divine powers, but also his own luck. " Oh man, my red flags are waving like no ones business.
