How does this stuff even get traction in fandom...

Out of curiosity, what have you tried exactly?

I only have one friend who's close to my skill level, so that's too bad. And yeah I don't understand why they're on Bronze...

One night I had been walking around putting stuff back on shelves when I was walking back to the front of the store I saw the security guard manhandling this gross-looking dude into a chair. When I walked over to the registers everyone was speechless and I asked what happened and they wouldn't say.
Later one of them told me that the guy had walked to the entrance of the bathrooms by the registers, pulled his pants down, and started masturbating right there.
I guess that was the one time I was thankful for doing go-backs

Guys, you need this:

forvo.com

It answers most of my pronunciation questions with audio :)

Actually, I should clarify that. Those are the rates for GHOSTWRITING short stories, where my rights to them disappear once I get paid. Something that I retain, and can potentially make more money on via other channels, would probably have a lower up-front fee.

And this particular costume design doesn't say to me, "We're embracing our bodies!", it says "Hey neckbeards, lookit the tits!".

Exactly. Why would anyone seriously argue that complaining about female characters in extremely revealing clothing is a slut-shaming act? It should be fairly obvious that the use of female characters for gratuitous sex appeal is sexist, not empowering. The OP's grievance wasn't specific to female characters' costumes—they made that as explicit as possible—but if you've ever seen a male character whose outfit was designed to designate him as a sex object, please let me know.

i'm not doubting you, but i'm honestly genuinely surprised to realize this. for my own masturbatory fantasies, i'm too busy, well, masturbating to bother writing them down. the things that i do write are thing that i find interesting but less, um, exciting.

Whitewash is a paint-like substance that lightens the color of things like wood, so the original metaphorical usage was a reference to covering up something dark (negative) in order to make it seem light (positive). The newer usage is a (clever IMO) pun referencing both meanings.

I've never understood the "moderately loyal" thing. if your friends are important to you, why wouldn't you be as loyal as possible?

Re: Sleep disorders

Insomnia is awful-- I'm sorry. Sleep meds are so hard, too, because I hate feeling drowsy or like I'm out of control (which is a large part of the reason I hate my sleep problems in general). I don't know if it would help you, but I found that taking valerian root would sometimes help me feel calmer, as my insomnia was usually triggered by anxiety. Probably 10000% placebo, but if you haven't tried it, maybe it would help a little? (And sorry in advance-- I know it can be really annoying when people's first reactions are 'HEY BUT HAVE YOU TRIED THIS. IT'LL PROBABLY FIX EVERYTHING.' but I thought I'd at least suggest it :) )

I have terrible nightmares too. In fact, one of the few panic attacks I've had was triggered by a nightmare. For me, I think it's all tied to my anxiety disorder.

In any case, wishing you nightmare free sleep and lots of it in the near future!

But I assume they had to buy those tablets and shell out money for decent art programs. Whereas all I need to write a story is a free document program. True, both writer and artist can get by with pencil and paper if necessary, but there's no equivalent to, say, Photoshop or Wacom for a writer's modern tools.

Hiro-sheema is the more correct way (imo), the other way is Americanized pronunciation. Japanese has a set way of pronunciation whereas in English we have different ways to sound vowels and such.

Two people who are not friends don't really do the going for coffee thing either. We spend time with people we know and they might know someone who knows someone.

What do you do if you move to a new city where you don't know anyone? Never mind dating, how do you make friends if it's inappropriate to ask people if they want to hang out or go do something outside of work or wherever you know they from? (I have a hard enough time making friends as it is and now I'm starting to make a mental note never to move to a Scandinavian country because I'd probably wind up some kind of lonely hermit because I wouldn't already be part of a group of friends.)

Hey man, whatever you like! There's obviously an audience for it, so you aren't alone. That sort of genderswap does it for a lot of people.

Derek is indeed the uberbuff guy, lol. Maybe that's why I'm so disappointed that he doesn't get genderswapped more; Derek could be a pretty girl, too!

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
a bit more broadly, i only really like genderswap fics where the entire cast is genderswapped. if it's just one or a few random characters, it seems a little weird.

It's happened, but not very often. And not to the exclusion of the guy expressing himself too. These characters strike me as more like dolls - they're just there for dress-up and to show off the T&A, not because they actually care what they're wearing.

Re: Sleep disorders

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no! Sleepwalking is such a wild and oddly fascinating thing to me. I used to sleepwalk (and talk-- as in have full fledged conversations with people) when I was a child, but as far as I know that's mostly subsided for me as well. Then again, I live alone and have not slept in the same place as someone consistently for a long time, so I'm not certain I would know. I also used to wake up by sitting straight up in bed and looking around, which terrified my older siblings. Apparently I might still do this sometimes...

Good luck with the sleep study! I was so nervous going into mine because I desperately wanted an answer to what was wrong with me, but it turned out to really not be so bad. It was mostly just really boring and having all the leads attached to me was somewhat awkward and uncomfortable.

I hope everything turns out well for you :)

Insurance: for the biggest things. Health, home, car. Mainly because the government doesn't provide much protection for disasters and other crises.

Guns: I don't know personally because I have no interest, but I think there's usually (or at least often?) a waiting period. And yes, they're sold at Walmart but not at other general/non-sporting goods stores.

Flossing: You don't have flossing? Why didn't I know this? You take a piece of wax-coated thread and slide it between your teeth, it pulls out bits of food that brushing misses, also keeps your gums healthy.

Abuse changes sexual orientation? Sorry, I didn't get the memo.
