Favourite movie(s)?

Rec me your favourite movie or movies, F!S.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert! It's awesome and it has the guy who played General Zod (in the original Superman films, not Man of Steel).

Hedgehog in the Fog, an animated film by Yuri Norshteyn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedgehog_in_the_Fog). My all-time favourite. I have never seen better animation and character designs than in Norshteyn's works.

If we are talking live action stuff... At the moment it's Holy Flying Circus, I guess. A film about Monty Python and Life of Brian. Never fails to cheer me up. Somehow it manages to sound ridiculous and silly and bittersweet all at once.

I Can't Think Straight.

It's kind of cheesy, but I've seen it like 15 times and it's my go-to feel good movie.

For Comedies: Clue, because not only does it work as a comedy, but also because it works really well as a mystery movie that you can find clues in for the reveals of who did it. Half and half slap-stick comedy and deadpan humorous lines (if i'm describing the dialogue correctly)

For other movies in general: I really love Jurassic Park, because I love the action and dinosaurs, plus the CGI holds up fairly well even today.

Princess Bride.

I can watch Pacific Rim over and over and over again.

This is the End deserves a mention, but only really for the last two minutes are so.

i tend to assume everyone's seen it, but what the hell. it's one of the most entertaining horror franchises, and the first movie is by far my favorite.

it's gory and violent and repulsive and it doesn't pretend to be anything more. the atmosphere is just the right level of tense; it makes you sweat and gives you goosebumps but it's still very watchable. the detractors of the franchise have blown the level of gore out of proportion (though it increases in the last movies); the violence is suitably offputting but not puke-inducing.
the story is surprisingly good for an almost straight-to-dvd horror film, with a nice twist at the end. it keeps you guessing who the killer is (or second-guessing your guess) right until the end.
and the casting is... well it's pretty random, but i think it's the movie's greatest strength. i mean, danny glover, ned bellamy, ken leung and michael emerson, together, in a horror film? it shouldn't even work, but it does. somehow.

Roman Holiday. Also, Legally Blonde. I can watch these movies anytime. And I don't care if I have three copies of each (people know I like these movies). If they're on TV, I will watch them--commercials and all.

Flowers of War - remember to bring tissues.
Inglourious Basterds - i find everyone in this movie so ridiculously attractive it's not even funny anymore. The music is absolutely amazing.
Captain Corelli's Mandolin - okay so my feeling of this movie are a bit mixed, because on the other hand it's terrible but on the other hand it's based on the absolute best book ever so I still love it.
The Pianist - by now, you might've noticed a trend... I just really like ww2 movies, especially if they make me sad.
aaaaaand I'm gonna go ahead and recommend The Grand Budapest Hotel which came out like a week ago, because it's hilarious and great and amazing.

I keep going back to A League of Their Own. It's a little glurge-y, but damnit it's charming as hell and I love literally every character in it.

Also I've been strangely enamored lately with the movie version of 1984 with John Hurt. He's brilliant as Winston, and the broken city feeling is captured exquisitely. One of my favorite book-to-movie adaptations, hands down.

Also I gave Soylent Green a shot the other day-- it's actually a lot less campy than I thought it would be, and if you're into dystopian sci-fi, you could do a lot worse.

Hobson's Choice - yes, David Lean made a comedy! I watched my old video tape of this so often it wore entirely out.

Dumbo - pink elephants on parade.

The Philadelphia story. Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart, with a perfect script.

The Last Seduction - scarily clever and sexy.

The Matrix - the first one was so much cheesy fun.

My Neighbor Totoro - an idyllic animation I can watch again and again.

Citizen X - depends on if you're in the mood for weary detectives spending years struggling against Soviet bureaucracy to try and catch a horrible serial killer, but it's one of my favourite movies for the relationships between the cast.

FX: Murder by Illusion - 80s movie SFX guy gets hired to fake a murder of a state witness, and then gets accused of actually murdering him and has to figure out what went wrong where and how to fix it. Fun, in a slightly morally bankrupt MacGyver sort of way.

Young Frankenstein - 1974 Mel Brooks movie starring Gene Wilder as the infamous Dr Frankenstein's grandson who is drafted in to repeat his grandfather's folly. It. Is. Hilarious. Marty Feldman as Igor was the best thing that ever happened to me as a kid.

Arsenic & Old Lace - 1940s black comedy. And by black I mean black. The most hilarious serial killer competition you will ever see, and Cary Grant caught in the middle of it making the best faces in the world.

I don't know that I'd say it's my absolute FAVOURITE, but I really like Warrior. It's about two estranged brothers (Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy) training for and then fighting in a mixed martial arts tournament but it isn't at all brainless, and also features Nick Nolte as their former alcoholic father. It builds towards a final fight (of course) that makes me break down and cry in a happy way every time I watch it.

Tombstone. Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer kill everyone in the old west. Mmm. While on horseback. And wearing all black. MMmm.
The Three Musketeers. Any version. Seriously. It doesn't matter. Though I kind of adore the one starring Gene Kelley as D'Artagnon.
Tremors. I love this movie so much, I can't even.
Big Trouble in Little China. Another Kurt Russell movie. I should probably just recommend anything he's in, because I also love Escape From New York, Breakdown, Dreamer, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes...
Point Break. Please don't tell me how bad it is. I know. I don't care. Keanu is in a wetsuit. Mmmm. Surfing. Mmmm.
Lilo and Stitch. As far as I'm concerned, the most perfect Disney movie ever done.
The Replacement Killers. An assassin refuses a job, and becomes hunted himself by three other killers. Did I mention the assassin is Chow Yun Fat?
I'm sure I'm missing some, but those are at the top of my list.

Warm Bodies, a romantic comedy about a zombie boy falling in love with a human girl after eating her boyfriend's brain. It's about as silly and absurd as you'd expect from that premise, but it's also an incredibly sweet movie with an interesting take on how zombification works and a lot to say about what makes us human.
