Re: Non-Fandom rants

Exactly. They make all rational viewpoints look bad.

There's also different extremes too. I know people who are pretty stereotypically Republican in some ways - hate Obama, love guns, etc. But this doesn't mean they're racist (they don't like Obama for fiscal reasons - yes, that's a thing), homophobic (some of them are pro gay marriage) or whatever else. One hardcore view /=/ all-around hardcore views.

Yeah, same here. Also forgive me if I'm not willing to risk my grades or even the feeling of turning in a subpar product on the chance that it'll turn into a magical learning/bonding experience for all. Maybe that does make me an "intellectual blowhard." I've never had a problem working on group projects with people who are invested and interested in doing the work. Similarly, in the working world, I have never had any issues working on projects with my coworkers. But yeah, I sure as heck had a problem with a lot of group projects in college...

Hey, same here! :) Loved that show.

"In the working world, there are real stakes, and supervisors notice when a particular team member isn't pulling her/his weight."

Unless the manager/supervisor is the one who doesn't care about the job and doesn't get involved in it until the end (and then just blame everyone and demands a last second immediate fix and then, after everything is done, forgets again to check what were the issues and who caused them).
Or unless the lazy member is the manager/boss friend/lover/relative and they get away with anything.
Or unless the member pulling the group back is an expert liar who manages to blame everything in someone who is doing their job.

Honestly, the working word is not perfect and it doesn't always work like it's supposed to do.

I think the way you're feeling is understandable.

And I also think...your friend wasn't a real friend. Harsh, but true. She sounds like the sort of person who latches on to a commodity. If a person is writing hot fic, she's all over it. If that person stops writing, even for a legitimate reason, she drops them.

I'm really sorry that this is happening to you. I'm not sure how to go about making it better. But I know that moving beyond it will involve letting her go, and I think that you've got to let her go, OP.

I can has spine?

When you submit an ask to someone you really admire without going anon for once and you're terrified

ohgodohgodohgod

why am i so neurotic omg this is not a fucking big deal so what if he thinks it's stupid you barely fucking know him

I mean I always try and play it cool but not-so-secretly I'm the biggest nervous wreck I know.

I may be a bit behind because I'm just now dipping my toes in this whole Game of Thrones thing (just the show, not the books), so maybe I don't know but when exactly does Jorah "come onto" Dany? As far as I know, it's all loyalty and dedication to his Khaleesi and some puppy dog eyes. I don't recall any Nice Guy entitlement coming out of his mouth or any inappropriate touching going on with him towards her. So, um, examples of his creepiness?

Would it be nice for me if she'd look at him as a woman "gazes" at a man? Yes. However, that would ruin the whole dynamic of his unconditional support and loyalty to her as his liege and him as her Ser. It'd be like dating your boss, kind of. And I don't actually think she "owes" it to him to return his feelings, no matter how cute the actor is.

Yea, I feel like most songs become more appealing if you listen to them long enough. It rarely matters how 'bad' they are, at a certain point you start to learn the lyrics and might even find yourself singing along even if you don't particularly love them.

He totally is, part of me always thinks of Cap when I see the prot pally shield going off in a group. I'm just sad there is no real way to mog into him.

-I like to sort characters into Hogwarts houses.

-I like to put my ships and brOTP's into Jaeger teams. Or at least I sort out which ones would be drift compatible and which ones wouldn't be(eg: Vegeta and Goku/Trunks would be drift compatible while Bulma is the scientist that makes the Jaeger's).

Oh God, abortion. I'm pro-choice and feminist, but I really do think there are pro-life advocates who honestly just think it's taking a life. They're not trying to inhibit women, because it's not so much about women as it is the unborn babies - because that's how they see it. By the same token, just because I'm pro-choice does not mean I believe in abortion as the only choice a woman should make; it doesn't even mean I'd have one myself. It simply means I believe a woman should have the right to do what she wants.

After much googling, I am 99% sure it is a angioma. So I am going to call her tomorrow and see if she has any advice for it she can tell me over the phone. D:

i like to imagine my 3 fandom favs in various different Perfume (the Japanese group) cosplay and imagine the fan art. of course none exists because i am the only one weird enough to wish for it. i don't know why, because the two fandoms are never relevant, but Perfume have such fun outfits that it's beautiful crack. there are others no doubt but yeah, surely my weirdest one lol.

When I get into a new fandom I like to think about what sort of fanfiction the characters might write. (I think I made a secret about this a looooooong time ago, but I can't remember which post it was in. It was definitely before the move to dreamwidth, though.)

Mona Lisa Overdrive and/or Neuromancer and/or Count Zero. I love cyberpunk, i love all the different characters and events from one book having an effect in the next, i love the way the world works, how the characters are....

Something like those books but with some damn m/m thrown in would be *awesome*. Also, cyberpunk in spaaaaaaaace with some m/m would pretty much make my reading life. :)

I like Do You Wanna Build A Snowman because of all the crossover fanart that's come from it. Now that you've reminded me of it, it IS kind of catchy, but...still not something I would listen to over and over again.

However, if I did listen to the soundtrack a few more times it would probably grow on me too. That tends to happen with me and music.

Hm, I don't think this is an abscess. I googled and think it is a angioma (cherry maybe). So I'll call her tomorrow and see if she can offer any advice.

I finally installed a PS2 emulator and ripped DMC1 and DMC2, so those blasts from the past are keeping me busy. Finished another Dragon Age playthrough and now I'm trying to figure out what should be my perfect playthrough for DA: Inquisition, though with the Keep project, I might not have to worry about an import anyway. Really wondering if I should actually pre-order this shit...usually I try to wait for bug fixes, walkthroughs, and discount sales before getting any game, but I don't think I can pull it off this time.

Re: Sexuality

(Anonymous) 2014-04-25 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
i asked this question on here some time ago, in the same vein as you regarding labels

i only got bullocked about 'labels' towards the end, but for the most part the comments helped me settle something in my mind - not a feeling or a way of being, but simply a literal representation, just a WORD to use...so i get where you're coming from

'largely disinterested' but 'not opposed to the idea of sex' is celibacy...i find this quote from the Wiki Celibacy page interesting (though i find the abundance of references to religion on that same page really creepy - but that's just me!)

abstinence is a response on the outside to what's going on, and celibacy is a response from the inside

My dad wanted to name me Kitty or Rogue but my mum vetoed it, I mentioned to him years later that they should have called me Katherine so he could nickname me Kitty instead.
