Put quotation marks around words that are supposed to be read with emphasis. That drives me crazy. Like this: Stay "behind" the yellow line. Or like this: Take a number and "wait to be seated."

yeah, italics exist for a reason. it's even worse when people are talking to you and they do the quotation marks with their fingers. ugh.

/gruesome story ahead

My defensive driving instructor had a guest speaker come into our first class who had apparently been texting and driving on one of those long back roads. She overcorrected when she veered off a little, flipped her car to the driver's side, and then skid for about two hundred feet. Her arm was hamburger meat at the end, and the only reason she didn't bleed to death before the EMTs got there was because her seatbelt got tangled up and acted as a tourniquet.

Yeah, no texting and driving for me.

This is why I'm glad that where I live has a zero-tolerance policy on that. The police see you with a cellphone, you get pulled over and fined $100 because it's a primary offense.

Don't know if you were purposefully referencing this, but there was a case recently in one of the Carolinas where a woman crashed and died within minutes of posting a Facebook status while on the road. The post came literally a minute before 911 received a call. As another anon said, terrifying.

Turn the lights on when there's already plenty of sunlight coming through the windows. I could try to make myself sound really conscious of wasting energy, but that's not even it. It's really weird and I don't know what it is, but the mix of natural and artificial light really annoys me.

I know what you mean. I don't like the combination. Even when I'm doing something for a minute that needs a bit more light, I always hate turning on a light during the day.

Bike riders who expect to be treated like a car but refuse to respect the road. Its awful when bikers are hit by cars. But its also awful when pedestrians are hit by bikes, and frankly I've seen that happen a lot more (and had it almost happen to me more times than I can count). If you're in the street, you stop at the red light, especially if there is a walk sign. If you're in the crosswalk and don't have a horn on your bike to alert pedestrians that you are behind them, don't zigzag around pedestrians in a way where you could easily hit them if you lost control for a second.

Wear glasses fashionably. I've had poor vision my whole life, had to wear coke-bottle lenses, got contact lenses and now glasses are cool?! And it really annoys me when people that don't really need them wear them. *super petty*

Rating anyone on a scale of 1 - 10 based on attractiveness. I've always just looked at a girl and either thought "gorgeous" or "not my type". Simple and effective in my opinion. I don't really hang out with guys who do the number rating scale because they always seem like giant tools.

Text and walk. Usually very slowly, directly in my way, generally stopping at random so I end up almost running into them.

I don't know if most people do this, but I've also had to remove people on twitter because they never. stop. tweeting. Being your friend does not mean I need to know every single thought that pops into your head. Ughhhh.

Anyone who uses their smartphone/cell phone while driving. It doesn't matter if you're chatting, texting, browsing mail, posting to FB (don't do that btw or you'll end up like the HAPPY SONG lady) or even just using hands free devices. If you're using a phone for ANY REASON while your CAR is on the road or any other place that other vehicles pass through, then I fucking hate you with a burning, irrational, bone-marrow deep hatred, and quite frankly, I hope your distraction lasts long enough for you to pass an overly attentive cop who's having a really shitty day.

God fucking damnit, you know it really says something when statistically, drivers who use cell phones while driving are just as bad if not WORSE than drunk drivers. And don't think using the 'hands free' device makes it any better, because your mind is still half-somewhere else. I know distracted driving has existed since the dawn of automobiles, but this is the absolute worst. You are operating something that weighs one to two tons that can easily KILL a living being if you aren't paying attention. Why do you want to risk that? Because you can't fucking hang up for a second? What the fuck did we ever do before cell phones? If you want to kill your dumb cunt self because you were too engrossed in your friend's text, fine, but stop putting everyone else in danger. And get the fuck off the road if you want to use your phone!

I don't understand why people use umbrellas unless it's absolutely pouring. A few drops won't kill you. I think it's silly to whip out an umbrella at the first sign of a light rain.
