...pig stuff? Er, sorry if I'm being an idiot and not remembering something really obvious, but...what pig stuff? Are you mixing it up with Daleks in Manhattan?

Aww man, now I want to see this. I love her hair. I'll have to check this out, thanks OP.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's based off a Fox Studios Live action movie. And I hope you get pissed at other children's movies based in historic times where bad things happened. But I'm sure you only care about this one.

I just find it strange that you're so willing to condemn someone as an asshole simply for admitting they'd find such a situation popcorn-worthy when it's almost certain you've done the same thing and are therefore a hypocrite.

Re: Beta reader/author horror stories

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, plenty of older, experienced writers do this, too. I'm not sure it's about experience... maybe ego is closer to it. Some people truly cannot comprehend the possibility that their work isn't perfect and the first concrit they get makes their head implode.

Thirteen, on and off. I really should be better than I am but I'm a lazy sod and haven't kept my technical skills up to par.

I love to play though.

Re: Tea!

You either misheard or your source was wrong. The "bubble" part does indeed refer to the tapioca balls in the tea.

Re: Apologies

You're not okay. Ever.

Unfortunately I know she's older than that, but it doesn't mean she has the maturity to match. I'm always on guard now when I meet someone new who's into her favorites, because she's got a history of socking it up.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
A cocktail shaker is just a screw-top container that won't leak. I'm pretty sure you don't need one to make bubble tea.

Sounds like it was such a mess they didn't want to work on it, and didn't know how to tell you.

Way to be an asshole, asshole.

Re: Rip off?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know any serious classical musicians who would think this. It's like comparing apples and oranges, what's to rip off? It's a bit like asking if Salvador Dali ripped off Van Gogh.

Did she ever keep to her word, that is, not associating you in any way? And was the piece as horrible as it seemed summed up or worse?

This is one of those "Tumblr is ruining fandom! *shakes cane*" secrets, isn't it?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
The problem with fandom these days is that it's not just "serious stuff in their own corner." I can't just follow someone on tumblr because I like their fic and want to talk meta without also getting subjected to all of their stupid opinions about gender-neutral pronouns and getting bitched out if I forget to refer to them as "pupself."

(Obviously I'm exaggerating, kind of, but still. I actually enjoy SJ discussions and sometimes I enjoy having them about fandom things... but if I wanted SJ then that's what I'd be out looking for and I sure as hell wouldn't be looking on Tumblr.)

Re: this post made me roll my eyes so hard it hurt

[personal profile] dreemyweird 2014-05-01 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
A month ago I would have been pretty certain of my opinion, but nowadays I began to notice that there may be more dimensions to this problem than I had previously thought. So, though this view is indeed based on my - factual - analysis of the narrative, I am not going to claim that I have definitive proof that your theory is wrong and mine is right.

Still. Dumbledore, Snape, and Harry may be the most obvious example. Okay, Snape is not supposed to be a "good" person, but it still sounds like the main reason he's been fighting against the Death Eaters is because of Lily. And we are supposed to see that he might have been a nasty human being, but in the end he also had great courage and moral values that helped him to choose the "right" way to act; but if his main motivation was his obsession with his dead high-school sweetheart, it... does rather undermine just about every good thing we know about him.

Dumbledore. Just, don't even get me started on Dumbledore. The problem with him is that he would normally (in a non-Rowling world) be absolutely irredeemable. Even if we do not talk about his sacrificing a seventeen-year-old (arguably, he had no choice), his choice of teachers for Hogwarts is still so incredibly fucked up that I'm sure many kids walked out of that school forever traumatized. Snape should have never, ever, ever taught anyone, let alone eleven-year-old kids. Kids tend to be vulnerable. His relationship with Dumbledore is adorable and all, but they are adults and hence equals. They can defend themselves and they aren't hurt by each other's coldness/maltreatment the way students are hurt by them. There can be no justification for keeping Snape in Hogwarts as a teacher, kindness or no kindness.

And Harry. Harry naming his kid after Snape and Dumbledore after they both have been such spectacular assholes to him. Is he a saint? I mean, yes, he is an incredibly forgiving person, but wouldn't that be super unhealthy IRL?

So, it seems to me that either a) Rowling made a conscious choice to write every single character as an asshole or b) the wizarding universe is so dystopian that healthy relationships and/or characters appear implausible.

It got canceled because it was shitty science fiction delivered through shitty writing and shitty performances.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA YA BURNT

Juliet knew. And they got engaged.

In the last episode, Shawn left a DVD for Lassiter where he was about to spill the beans, but Lassie ejected it and broke it so he wouldn't hear it. But he basically had suspected all along.

Also I'm pretty sure Chief Vick suspected pretty hard but but also didn't want to hear the truth.

Anon who asked for anime recs yesterday

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Just wanted to thank all you lovely people who recced me stuff! My usual MO is to do two eps and if I don't like it by then, I don't bother with the rest; if I'm ambivalent, I give it up to five eps to convince me. So I spent yesterday watching two eps each of some of the animes you recced (I'll get to the rest over the next few days!) and I now want to talk about them I hope you don't mind =D

Stuff I liked:
Mononoke! This was the last one I watched, before going to bed... and I'm a terrible wuss when it comes to horror stuff, so I was totally freaking out but I still went WHAT at the tbc at the end of the first ep, and instantly went to the next. Shall definitely be continuing with this later (in daylight. bright, bright daylight).
The animation and storyboarding were gorgeous (especially those page flipping effects! and the stop-motion type movement in places!) and I lovelovelove the way they used those off-beats of silence, and patterns, and movement to show that something was very wrong. So amazing, seriously.
Also, question for those who're familiar with this: I read that this is a spin-off of another show; is Ayakashi worth watching? How similar/different is it to Mononoke?

Hyouka: Liking this so far! It's sort of slice of life and mystery at the same time (at least as far as the first couple of eps go) and I like both those genres so this is nice. Also really enjoying the art style when Chitanda gets curious about something, heheheh. S'like, it's your average high school typical art type thing, and then all of a sudden it DRAGS YOU IN.

Stuff I'm ambivalent about:
Log Horizon: Not something you guys recced, but something I was giving a shot at that point anyway. Still not sure if I like this or not (a lot of it seems pretty standard-cliche at this point, and the animation looks kinda generic), but I don't dislike it enough to drop it yet. And since Shiroe's only just formed Log Horizon, I'll keep watching to see if things pick up.

Hitsugi no Chaika: Oh man, this one. I dunno, the "I love and respect my beloved older brother so much" wink-wink-nudge-nudge jokes are just so tired. It's nowhere near as bad as some others, but still really annoying. Also the outfits really annoyed me too - what's up with Zita's outfit, seriously? Did she forget to put on her trousers? And don't even get me started on Akari's outfit. I had to pretend all the flesh-coloured bits of her legs were flesh-coloured leggings in order not to throw something at my screen. Just - lazy, pandering design, bah.
And yet, dammit, I want to see where the story goes. I sort of find myself thinking of Scrapped Princess? It has potential, but it's also something that'd be really easy to screw up. So I guess I'll give it a little longer to prove itself.

Stuff to rewatch/finish:
Gankutsuou and Mushishi! Thanks for reminding me about these, guys, definitely gonna start rewatching these when I'm done with the newer stuff. I'm excited about getting to finish Gankutsuou, heh.

There's more (plus I've got a bunch left to try out) but this is already getting long eheheh oops. Love to hear what you guys think of these anime (and if you've got any other recs)! Thanks again for all the recs~~ ^___^

I ask them what issues they can point out in a piece I've already posted. I've never refused one yet--they always had something interesting to say.
