To no one's surprise, Captain America
But even though he didn't fully understand who Steve was it seemed like that might've been the first time since his last wipe that he had any kind of memory or emotion. Even if it wasn't, clearly the thought of being someone, having a life outside of his missions was such a foreign and confusing thought for him, but he wanted and seemed to long for that so badly.
So basically Sebastian Stan's puppy dog eyes.
Or Steve dropping his shield and resigning himself to letting Bucky kill him if he couldn't bring him back. That was hella horrible too.
Plus Natasha finding out she was practically working for Hydra... And having to put her entire, bloody past on the net in order to out Hydra. Winter Soldier was a barrel full of laughs, let me tell you.
(And hey, that's just Winter Soldier! How about Steve waking up in the future and realizing that pretty much every person he ever knew or loved was dead? Fun.)
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
(Anonymous) 2014-05-11 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)(and every person he knew and meets in Winter Soldier doesn't remember him anymore! Fun and love for the whole family!)
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
He was so childlike and hopeful and needed THIS ONE THING and Pierce took it away from him. If only we could kill Pierce again. (Or at least make sure the bastard is dead.)
(Exactly! The two most important people in his life didn't know who he was, and his bff, the person who knew him best actively turned against him. Even though Bucky had no say in it, that had to be the most horrible, soul crushing experience.)
Captain America: ruining your hopes and dreams for ever achieving true happiness.
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
I could never prepare for Sebastian Stan's puppy dog eyes and distress, nor Chris Evans adoration or depression.
Basically I'm saying that movie was impossible.
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
I read a lot of the X-titles, but never Captain America (or Thor for that matter) - but hey, I like superhero movies in general.
I was already pretty upset about Bucky "dying" in the last film, because I really liked him (and hey, to be shallow, he's actually so much more my type than Cap).
So, I basically went in unspoiled. Somany feelings. Those facial expressions killed me. Also, just so much more love nd respect for Steve now (a character I was mostly indifferent to). So, well one Marvel. I think I'll need o read the comics now. And consume a shitton of fanfic/fan art. And accept being a little in love with Bucky...
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
I almost wish I hadn't known about Bucky simply because the reveal would've been AMAZING. One of the reasons I was so excited to see the film was to see how people reacted to the reveal, lol. I'm sad I haven't got to go again.
I've loved Steve since the beginning but I do think this film did a better job of making him a more interesting and well rounded character. It did that with everyone, really.
You should at least read the Winter soldier arc! It was really good. There's so much good fanfic too, I can barely keep up with it. Now is a good time to be a Cap (And Bucky) fan.

the best taste
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
Oh, oh. Can I add Natasha's 'Don't do this to me Nick' mantra that she kept saying while he was in surgery BECAUSE THAT WAS HORRIBLE AND I JUST... D:
(Steve needs a hug, Steve needs all the hugs. From everyone, I don't care. Everyone hug that man!)
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
... But I had forgotten about that part, why did you remind me. D: So many layers of pain in this film. So many layers...
I think the entire cast should be hugged forever. They should have tons of group hugs. Even Sam. Sam probably doesn't need it quite as much at the moment, but dammit, he deserves them too.
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
I had to share the agony. You're welcome.
The next Avengers film should be nothing but group hugs and trips to the local ice-cream store to get like milkshakes and shit. NO PAIN HERE, ONLY FROZEN GOODNESS.
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
Ugh, Nat should not be in pain, Nat should be braiding Bucky's hair. (While Steve takes pictures in the background.)
I would genuinely like the next Avengers movie to be Steve getting Bucky back, them moving into Stark tower and all the Avengers hanging out and also helping Bucky overcome his problems. And eating ice cream.
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
(Anonymous) 2014-05-11 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)And Tony finding all the ways to drag them both into Stark tower (like: huh yes, I've bought all the buildings in Brooklyn and I forbid 92 year-olds who look 25 to live in my buildings, sorry - but he also makes sure that Bucky's room is next to Steve's and that he can keep an eye on all the exits at all times, he had Pepper send in an expert on PTSD for that).
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
Lmao at 92 year old that look 25. I could see Tony doing and saying that.
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
Yes, yes, yes. All hair-braiding going on here, no fights. No brain-washing. Just fun and cuddles.
Yup, and Bucky gets to make friends with other Avengers and they like all help each other to heal and eat ice-cream all day and never have to worry about the fate of the world ever again.
What do you mean this isn't happening? Fuck.Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America

I saw someone mention that the Winter Soldier doesn't need to run to his victims. When he attacks Nick and Natasha, he walks - he knows that no matter how far his victims think they can run, he will always, always catch up to them. Winter Soldier!Bucky is terrifying (but I also want to hug him, like a prickly hedgehog).
(and fluff to make up for that: http://mechinaries.tumblr.com/post/83447174783/i-imagine-both-steve-and-bucky-like-to-come-up)
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
Thanks, Marvel.
And that Fanart is the best thing ever, omg... So cute! I want it in Cap 3.
Re: To no one's surprise, Captain America
TBH, I think MCU made a lot of very good calls in how they adapted the story, because there are things I am liking so much more in the movie (yeah whatever I'm a bad comics fan who cares)

Seriously though that is really good and kind of gloriously painful?
Ahhhhhh, I've seen that one before but I will never complain about being shown it again. Thank you nonnie, for both!

Now I've gotta do it again too. All those tight outfits and bulging muscles... It's gonna be rough.
