This is probably bait, but you're right about one thing-he didn't watch past the first episode. Linkara told him about the Haruka/Michiru thing on a flight. He tends to do this a lot, which annoys me. Barely looking into the source material and exaggerating certain things to be FunNY and WaCKy. Half of that review was about how Serena is whiny and 'useless' (which is the point of her character arc between episode one and the confrontation with Beryl) and the other was about how sexualized the ballerina leotard was. It's a shame.

Yeah, it was awful. He just glanced at the material and declared it sucked. It reminded me of when he made a big deal about Boy from the Little Monsters review. Boy had been mentioned a few times before he shows up, I didn't understand why he lied to make a bit.

I've been torn between watching this review just so I can see the badness for myself and judge it on my own terms, and simply taking everyone else's words for it and not wasting my time.

I used to like Lindsay and Doug's reviews equally, but now I generally prefer the former's anyway.

I was actually the opposite before. I wasn't a big fan of Lindsay, even if I usually respected her opinion but I loved Doug. Now I like Lindsay's reviews much better and am happy to see when she puts on new martial. With Doug, I check on his work every once and a while but I don't feel the need to watch every episode of his like I used to. I'm not sure if it's me or him but I don't find his newer videos as funny as his old ones. For one I think he over uses skits verse just giving a review and poking fun at what he's watching like he used to.

Yeaaah I'm at the point where I don't watch his reviews anymore. The only reviewers I still watch on the site are Nostalgia Chick and Todd in the Shadows.

I know this is a troll and all buuuuut

- he was only doing the English dub. Which I think we can all agree sucks and deserves to be mocked.

- he spoke about and adknowleged the other parts of Japanese culture that arn't very positive, I.e. the 13 year old consent laws and whatnot. Discussing why consent laws like this are wrong and harmful to underage girls isn't very sexist to me but hey whatever helps you sleep at night

I swear, all of this hate is just a bunch of butthurt american fangirls who can't accept the fact that the english dub of a show they liked as a drooling little kid, actually kinda sucks.
I know it's nostaligic and all, but get over it.

NC sucks for a variety of reasons, and a big one is the fact that he usually knows nothing about what he's talking about and does very little research. I'm glad he's significantly dropped off the radar in recent years.

Lindsay would have been a bad choice, she herself never got into Sailor Moon or anime in general, I think.

Someone who knew anything about Sailor Moon would have been good.

He's done some other lazy reviews like that that I hated.

Wow, what a tool. I keep hearing about the Nostalgia Critic and my first exposure to him ripping apart Sailor Moon in a completely idiotic manner doesn't do much for my opinion of him. I mean, fucking seriously, man, just because you're only capable of looking at Sailor Moon from the perspective of your boner doesn't mean it was ever supposed to be fanservice - it's for girls who want to be pretty and kick ass at the same time, saying that femininity is not inherently a weakness, but can be a strength. You can do a sparkly ballerina dance and make the bad guys explode and still be flawed and normal, pure power fantasy for a little girl. But no, forget that, go on and on about consent laws, that's not male-gazing the entire show at all.

At the very end, it seemed like he was kind approaching understanding what the appeal was about - for example, that Usagi was a realistic, grounded character instead of the empty beauty that's usually tossed at girls for our heroes - but I can't really forgive him for that five minutes of going "SHE'S FOURTEEEEEEEN MAH POOR MISLED DICK". Jesus.

Yes, I'm incredibly, irrationally defensive of my sweet baby Sailor Moon I will fight everyone for that show dude can go to hell.

Ugh yeah that review was awful, and usually I love even the bad NC reviews.

BTW OP, if you want a fun review of Sailor Moon episodes/musicals/etc I'd check out Evan MacIsaac's vlogs. He finished all 200 episodes!

I hated this review so much, and this coming from someone who watches NC regularly. I know Doug's lazy, but for this one he just really didn't give a shit and it showed all over the place.

This video was what pretty solidly cemented my disinterest in NC's new reviews, as a whole.

He didn't know a goddamned thing about the source material. He didn't even bother to give the original (subtitled) version a try, for comparison's sake, or read up about it at all, which is pretty fucking crucial research for something of this nature.
He didn't acknowledge Usagi's growth (yes, even in the dub) that happens later on.

It's all fine and good if you want to form these opinions after having seen only a little bit of something. It's fine to not like it.
But not if you're going to actually review it, for other people to see.
Sit your ass the fuck back down, and let someone more knowledgeable (or less pathetically lazy) talk about the material in question.

100% agreed with this secret. You could tell he barely touched the series just from the footage used alone. The emphasis on the sexual bits did not do him any favors either.

There are strong female characters everywhere in the show, YES ALSO THE DUB, and the fact he couldn't see that is telling.

I am offended mostly by HOW LITTLE EFFORT he put into it, really.

Also, some of his generalizations bugged me. "No girls want to see Star Wars." Ummmm.....I LOVED Star Wars as a kid. I know plenty of women who loved it as a kid (my super girly roommate who was also really into Sailor Moon loved both and even has a Vader mask). Ok, personal experience doesn't speak for everyone, but that's still a silly generalization, dude.
