even though she tried getting him killed and slept with his father who had his fiancee gangraped?

*even though she did what she had to do to survive because she was in a position of zero power

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't a matter of survival, she was bought off by Cersei.
fauxkaren: (Default)

[personal profile] fauxkaren 2014-06-11 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure if she'd refused Cersei, Cersei would have been like "yeah, that's cool! No big!"

lmao. Shae was in a bad position and she did what was best for her.

Tyrion knew she was a prostitute. It's not her fault that Tyrion was deluded enough to think that she really loved him.

So being a prostitute means you're unable to fall in love with anyone?
fauxkaren: (Default)

[personal profile] fauxkaren 2014-06-11 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Did I say that?

It's just really obvious in the books that Shae is only there for the $$$$ and position. And Tyrion convinces himself that it's ~more than that~, except lmao nope. It's not. And when Shae has an opportunity to look out for herself, she doesn't have any qualms about betraying him.

No: but it doesn't oblige you to either. The fact that Tyrion loved Shae did not somehow require her to reciprocate the emotion. What Tyrion forgot was that their whole relationship was a transaction: Shae didn't owe Tyrion anything - and certainly not a demonstration of loyalty which could easily have cost her her life.

We don't know what Cersei would have done, just what she did.

[personal profile] fauxkaren 2014-06-11 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but I mean... looking at her pattern of behavior, you can guess that Cersei wouldn't have been chill about Shae not testifying against Tyrion.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

Yeah, I highly doubt either Cersei or Tywin would have just let her go. Plus, she made it quite clear that she was only with Tyrion for his money. He projected on her a quite a bit.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's not that Tyrion's in a position of power when he kills her. She made bad choices, so did he. Nothing worse than all the rest of the characters have done in the series/books.

Not saying he's a saint. No on in ASOIAF is. Just don't get the hate.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice excuse there.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
So if she tries to kill him, it's doing what she must to survive, but if he tries to kill her, it's unforgivable?

I've never read the books, but this confuses me.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It's because he has a penis
fauxkaren: (Default)

[personal profile] fauxkaren 2014-06-11 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
She didn't TRY to kill him. She testified against Tyrion in order to save her own skin.

Tyrion killed Shae because he was pissed off that the woman he'd be paying to have sex with him didn't love him.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
no, because she testified against him about killing joffrey and then had sex with his father
fauxkaren: (Default)

[personal profile] fauxkaren 2014-06-11 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, but WHY did that anger Tyrion so much?

It was because he'd deluded himself into believing that Shae actually loved him and then when she did that, it was obvious to him that she was just there for the money. And that was what made him mad and why he killed her.

More like she testified agains him because she wanted power and money.
fauxkaren: (Default)

[personal profile] fauxkaren 2014-06-11 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Well yeah. That too. Because that's why she was with Tyrion in the first place. She didn't want to lose that. But also angering Cersei by NOT testifying would probably have been bad news for her.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
So it's just an incidental thing if her testimony gets Tyrion executed, right? She's just doing what she has to. No big.
fauxkaren: (Default)

[personal profile] fauxkaren 2014-06-12 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. Girl is looking out for herself. She didn't like actively necessarily want to hurt Tyrion... but the possibility of Tyrion being executed based on her testimony wasn't going to stop her from doing something that would protect herself.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
She is not obligated to save anybody's life at the expense of her own.

Their situations are completely different, though. Shae testified against Tyrion because that was probably her only way to get out of a bad situation. Tyrion killed Shae because he wanted revenge.

One of these things is not like the other!

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Tyrion projected all of his feelings on an 18 year old whore who was just doing her job. It's his own damn fault for feeling she owed him love, and murdering her was crossing a line. We don't even know why Shae was with Tywin, but I'm fairly certain she was in no position to reject him had he approached her.

I feel your bit about not knowing why she was with Tywin is a good one. Understanding that I only know what I've read on wikis, my first thought on her being in Tywin's bed is that she likely had no choice in that either.
