why

(Anonymous) 2014-07-26 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
is it okay for making fun of fedoras for dressing badly being obese and being sexually inexperienced/a virgin in the feminist sphere

is this not some kind of shaming

what's the deal with that

Cognitive dissonance: psychological conflict resulting from simultaneously held incongruous beliefs and attitudes

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2014-07-26 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It's okay because they're "only retaliating." The same way it's "okay" for POC to make fun of white people for their race or culture, or "okay" for non-binary or non-straight people to call others cishet scum, or "okay" for any oppressed party to tell a less oppressed party to go die.

That's the reason I've heard. I'm not saying I agree.

My favorite is, "It's okay when I say KILL ALL MEN/WHITIES/CISHET. Everyone knows I only mean the bad ones. but KILL ALL ____ is shorter. That is why I do it. Because I am a lazy fuckwad who would rather be shocking than accurate."

I'd love to see someone change this post to reflect the stereotypes that muslims=terrorists or black people=criminals or feminists=the insane Tumblr radfems.

"When I say “boys are dumb” what I really mean is “boys have been raised in a patriarchal society that forces them into an incorrect and problematic view of masculinity that not only forces them to strip away valuable virtues from themselves, like patience and gentleness, but also forces them them to view and treat women in unhealthy ways that devalues women as people and makes them into objects purely for a man’s benefit”

but it’s a lot faster to say “boys are dumb”"

Neckbeard is the one that gets me. That is literally insulting someone for their body hair. I think I saw a post where some radfems were making fun of some guy for being a misogynistic, neckbeard (based solely on his picture) and then they found out it was some fairly popular blogger who is a genuinely cool guy.

IDk, they're usually the people who complain about women being too 'fake' for wearing makeup or not being 'fit' enough, while they themselves are slobs/overweight. Basically the male population of /b/.

I don't think it's okay to insult someone because of their weight, mind you.

It's rather negative today at the old F!S. I think it's the heat. (At least for us in the US and in Europe.) Hydrate, people!!!!

So, to bring back the positivity I ask you, what was the last nice thing you saw someone do for another person?

Also, what was the last nice thing someone did for you?

It doesn't have to be big. Just nice.

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2014-07-26 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's wrong. Which is all the more reason why everyone (fedoras included) should shut down shaming both men AND women about their looks/dress/sexual experience. But since it's part of MRA culture to do both the fedora AND the slut shaming, PUA thing, they get a lot of flack. Is it right? Eh, no. But I understand why it happens, especially because when it does happen, their reaction is ONLY: Oh noes, what about teh poor menz??!!! :( :( :(

... with little or no awareness of the fact that this is exactly what they do to women and that's why they're getting shit for it now.

That really bothers me. Specifically the virgin thing because isn't that exactly the kind of thought that can cause a person to become a rapist? Isn't that the exact same line of thinking that causes people to call a man a stud if he sleeps around?

Like how hypocritical are you?

Because stereotype. And stereotypes all have a little truth to them.

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2014-07-27 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
It's not okay, but it also doesn't usually come up unprompted. It's usually things like:

Guy: *explicit list of all the physical and non-phyiscal attributes women MUST HAVE to be attractive*
Radical tumblr: Oh yeah? Well you're a fat neckbeard, so it's not like you're a prize.

It's childish taunting on all sides, but it's usually part of a larger argument.

Re: why

the vast majority of people who mock fedoras are mocking them for their opinions/mindsets. the fact that theyre fedoras is just a correlation, not the focus.

also:
ive seen two things related to your complaint - mockery of dress and "mockery" (if you can call it that) of someone's lack of understanding of anatomy/sex behaviour/etc
the former is usually because fedoras who dress "classy" tend to believe they are somehow superior for wearing formal or steampunk attire and attribute that to their status as ~gentlemen
the latter isnt making fun of virgins really but pointing out that fedoras (who are usually MRAs/misogynists) dont know a fucking thing about women or their bodies.

anybody who shames someone for being a virgin or being obese is an asshole and probably not that great of a feminist to boot

I don't like fedora wearers because my ex wore fedoras. And he was a pretentious, falsely classy, egotistical dick with an overweening ego that tended to Nice Guy (TM) and White Knight the shit out out of any woman he came across.

The man wasn't socially or sexually awkward at all. He was plenty smooth with the ladies and has no problem with getting laid.

He's just a big asshole, and so were a lot of his friends who wore fedoras, much in the same way.

That's why I don't like them. *shrugs*
