It started good and I liked season 2 to a point (mainly the beginning...NEAL ;~;), but the first half of season 3 was eh and then I heard about the second half and....nope.

I miss it to a certain extent cause I LIKE the silly Disney-esque thing going on, but...not after Neal. Nope sorry.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-27 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this

I dropped it as soon as I heard Neal died.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-27 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? Rumple and Regina are far more complex.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-27 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
rumple and regina got obnoxious when regina went through her very badly done "redemption" and every villain under the sun became related to them in some way.

tbh i'd take more badly written belle any day over more rumple angst.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-27 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Rumple's complex, but Regina? Really?

For the last three seasons she's done variations of:

*Problem arises*

Regina: I will kill everyone I know except Henry!

*tries to kill everyone*

Regina: Wah. No one likes me.

*cries until someone decides to like her*

*Repeat*

I like Rumplestiltskin okay. At the very least I'm interested in his stories.

But I HATE Regina and I don't understand why she has so many fans. Evil Regals, what are you doing? She's so static. Thus far all she's ever done is backslide whenever it's looked like they were going to give her an ounce of character development. I wish she'd died in the season two finale. Her sacrifice would've made me happy. But fucking Henry had to appeal to Emma to save her. Henry's the worst of them all.

The show is pure cheese, it had a certain appeal in the beginning but it started to take that turn where the bad writing got obvious and I can't even watch it anymore because it just makes me angry. I think a lot of the fandom is bailing, it doesn't seem like it's as big as it was back in season 1.

I wish we could have a good modern fairytale show. Remember the 10th kingdom? I would give anything for a fully fleshed out series like that.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-27 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the rating are flatlining hard and it makes me sad because I used to love this show. I stubbornly clung to the spinoff and everything.

But S3 was just...

Introducing Frozen is a very desperate attempt to drag in ratings (They're not only brining in Elsa, but also Anna and Kristoff ffs. In most of the other fairytales they've covered they only introduce one person.), and while there might be a spike simply because of how popular Frozen is it's going to nosedive when the writing doesn't improve any.

It's pretty much nighttime soaps at this point. Which is probably why the people I know that watch it like it. They're all into daytime soaps too.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-27 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not wrong. At this point I think I'm only watching for the costumes, and the fandom is more entertaining than the show. I haven't even bought the dvds. And I always buy the dvds. I own Cleopatra 2525 on dvd for heaven's sake.

I love Snow (And Charming for that matter) and think she's incredibly endearing, but a lot of people find her boring. It happens. (Meanwhile, I can't stand Rumple and get tired of Regina and Hook, but tbh I wish we got more Red and Mulan. This show is a mess and I think some of that could be fixed by giving lesser known characters more screentime. As much as I love the Charmings, if they, Rumple and Regina got a bit less focus maybe the show would be more interesting and balanced.)

This. I think I would have enjoyed more Aurora, Red and Mulan plots, but when I think of a badly handled Red plot, I go back to my blu-rays and watch "Child of the Moon". It could have been handled so much better if Graham was in the flashbacks just like this rewrite that I've loved.

OMG. She is the worst actress on the show IMO. If I was watching for her, I would've stopped during season one.

Rumple and Regina are the reasons to watch the show.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-27 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know about that. I actually dislike Snow, to be honest, but the actress playing Regina eats the scenery for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a light snack during the day so I can't say she's bringing it, in my opinion (same with Rumple, which is weird because that guy is actually a good actor outside of this show).

Why are you fifty episodes in if it's the worst show you've ever watched? O__O You must be very dedicated to shows you start watching...

C'mon. There are worse shows out there.

Glee for example. 7th Heaven for those of us on the wrong side of 25. That one train wreck about a superhero.

At least OUAT has pretty dresses.

Season 1 was genuinely good, I bailed early in S2 but came back because Cora suddenly became thoroughly awesome, even if a lot of the other season elements were horrible, and by S3 I was only watching the Neverland arc for Regina's hilarious snarking at everything in range. The midseason finale was actually genuinely good as well, but then Season 3.2 was just ... I gave up. I want to stab Hook in his emo pirate face, Rumple needs to stop doing everything, I'm serious, he needs to sit in a corner and not do anything ever again, and most of the romantic plots outside of Snow/Charming are tanking badly or horrible to start with.

After season 1, the show mostly became a one-trick pony where we're treated to a never-ending parade of Rumple's past mistakes (even Regina's past mistakes are really only Rumple's mistakes in disguise), and it's just ... it's really tiring. They're not even different mistakes, he mostly just makes the same ones over and over again and screws up someone new every time. Cora was the only one of the villains-from-Rumple's-backstory that was genuinely awesome, and that was almost entirely because she was acting in spite of him and not because of him.

And, funnily, Rumple was my favourite character in S1. There's just such a thing as doing a plot to death, is all.

Yeah, I gave up about a season and a half in when I realized the only thing I actually cared about was Mulan/Aurora, and that probably wasn't gonna happen. (I guess they made Mulan liking Aurora canon? Totally not enough to make me watch again.) It was ridiculous in a bad way and just full of shoddy plotting and shoddy characterization and it mostly just made me want to pull my hair out.

I didn't make it to 50 episodes. I watched the 1st season and now I catch the odd one here and there since people I live with watch it. And yeah, I too enjoyed the fuck out of shows like Gossip Girl.

For me, I just can't buy into Storytime. Now there are so many characters and every time they're like, "We didn't know such and such was back and has been here all week." I have to laugh. It's a tiny ass small town! How could you NOT know?? Especially since you're restricted to a small area where you can't leave. I just think it's stupid that anyone could feasibly hide there. All the times they discover new areas of it. Drives me bonkers. I think there was a lot of potential and I like the mixing of fairy tales, but I wish it was more like Fables. In fact, I just wish they'd made Fables into a tv show and not loosely based their premise on it.

I don't like Snow White's character though. If I had to pick one, it's probably Regina. But that's based on my little knowledge I have of the show.

I don't think anyone working on OUAT genuinely considers it a "good" show. I think everyone involved knows EXACTLY how terrible it is, but they give absolutely zero fucks.

It's definitely awful, has been from the start

(Anonymous) 2014-07-28 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Personally, I find the general story line very appealing but I don't like how it's executed at all. The return of the long lost daughter, a wide cast of reimagined fairy tale figures- that sounds cool to me, but I don't think the Disneyness doesn't work in the context of a live action show and I feel that they haven't done enough solid characterization to make the characters come to life. Of course, I bailed after 12-13 episodes, so it might've gotten better, might've gotten worse. It's a shame because I do think it would've really appealed to me had it been different.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-28 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to love this show, but personally I feel it peeked at the end of S1.

My recollections a bit fuzzy here, but I think it was the end of S2 that had me officially checking out. Right after they saved Charming/Emma/whoever...they left to go get a bite at the diner(?)and were skippingwalking down the street, all I could think was:'Let's all go out for some frosty chocolate milkshakes.'

Then Hooks ship arrives in predictable OTT fashion.

Don't get me wrong, I always knew the show was cheesy (Charming's single tear drop anyone?) But apparently I'd reached my quota. Later I checked out the wiki to see if S3 was worth having a look at, and from what I read it seems they rehash a lot (was reading some parts of Regina's storyline).
