Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The acronym is used as a verb in the way OP is using it to mean sending a copyright claim to get something pulled off the Internet under the terms of the law. The dude in the secret got some of his art pulled off the tumblr Eschergirls despite the fact that it was probably fair use.

He claimed their criticism, which is explicitly protected under fair-use, was actually plagiarism. He did that because he didn't like them criticizing his work and wanted to stifle criticism.

The art is fairly typical of the era, no better-no worse, but ugh his attitude. Not to mention his total non-apology which was pretty much an "I'm sorry you made me mad" style of dodge. Just ugh.

I think he made a bad move on his part. I can understand that as an artist it's probably hurtful to see your work dissected in that way, but this is not the way you respond to criticism. Especially considering he's most likely in the wrong legally, since everything Escher Girls does falls under fair use.

He just came off as extremely whiny and almost proves that the people running Escher Girls are in the right to put how men design women under a microscope. I don't even always agree with their blog but I am not here for men trying to shut down women talking about important issues because someone hurt their feelings.

Honestly I don't think the art in the OP's secret is horrid. Decent boobs and nipples and not obviously violating the laws of physics and biology.

His art is pretty terrible. Yeah it's not Liefield, but it still sucks.

He's an example of how not to embarrassingly overreact on the internet while under stress irl. I'm glad he realised how out of hand he was getting (threatening lawsuits lol) and pulled back and apologized. Since both Queen and Eschergirls have dropped the thing though, I have sympathy for him even if he was a douchebag.

His version is that he was in the middle of a mental breakdown. However, in my read he made a honest apology and took full responsibility for the mess.

He may have apologized and that's all well and good, but how he went about it -much less the fact he even attempted it in the first place- is something that will stick with his name for a long time. Especially in this day and age. Just look up 'Randy Queen' on Google or any search engine, and the Escher Girls/DMCA fiasco dominates most of the results. Such is the nature of things.

Randy Queen was an idiot during all of this, imho. He's just a washed-up 90's comic artist/writer who's trying to get attention (since his second attempt at comics -'Starfall'- barely made a blip on anyone's radar and hell if his covers stand out from the rest of the Zenescope garbage), and went about it in the stupidest and wrong way possible. I get that he was stressed out from numerous factors, but that's still no real excuse for pulling the stunt he did. He deserves all the blow back he's been getting from this one.

I think the guy had every right to do what he did up to having the conversation w/o images pulled. It IS hurting his name to be there. Even if he didn't have much of a name.

If it were a web artist wanting their work taken down because it was posted without permission people would be agreeing with them.

I find Eschergirls completely distasteful. It generally picks on the old art of people that have gotten better with no indications to the audience that they did or panels that went wrong out of an entire book that is probably ok. It's easy to sit down and redline something at your leisure when you're not on a deadline.

Most of the critics aren't any better than the art they make fun of.
