Hmmmm.

- Critiquing people's choice of baby names
- Watching amateur riffs or iriffs of movies (Think Rifftrax, but done by other people. Janet Varney, voice of Korra, used to do them.)
- Write movie reviews
- Watch TQWTG and co.

Reading books. Now it's all fics. I can't even get around to the fandom books, like DW or TNG or ENT books, or the Murder Rooms books. I read a mag once in a blue moon and that's it. :(

I pay attention to /co/, /u/, and occasionally /k/ (I'm into military history and am pretty good at seeing past the weird politics). Sometimes /lgbt/ but there really isn't that much for me there outside the weird bi generals.

I love that episode unabashedly for exactly the reasons you listed OP. Kidnapped hero? Check. Frantic partner? Check. Badass self-rescue? Check and check! And I appreciate that the trauma was something Eames continued to deal with - you know, with actual therapy rather than stoicism.

I always get kind of sad when this bothers people, because for me, Hutch's weird adorable campaign of pushing and tormenting is like, one of my favorite things about their friendship. He kind of reminds me of a kid punching his fist into his favorite baseball glove repeatedly to reassure himself that it's strong and sturdy and it's not about to fall apart on him. He has some kind of anxiety thing going on.

Anyway, I think an important thing to remember is that the second Starsky gets seriously upset over anything, Hutch drops all his superiorism and stuff immediately and is totally sweet and nice and gentle for as long as he needs to be.

As someone who couldn't get a job at a great company even knowing one of the board of directors, believe me, I understand.

Do keep applying, because if the guy isn't telling other people this, he sees potential in you.

Typing things. Like, the physical act of typing.

I don't really notice when it comes to shorter posts like here, but I used to love sitting down and typing up long fics because it meant typing for so much and so long. But now, doing so feels like a chore. I love writing by hand, but that doesn't get my fic up to AO3. :P

I'm a bad movie snob.

I'm pretty judgy about fanart. Especially about popular artists with like no understanding of anatomy.

Cooking and baking. I used to love looking up recipes and trying out new dishes, especially baked goods, but these days, when I think about baking/cooking I sigh and wonder if there's an easier way to go about it. Even boxed cakes seem like more work than they're worth. LOL

But when I do cook or bake I think to myself, "Yeah, everything tastes so much better when I make it myself," but I'm so lazy these days, I internally moan about the work that goes into cooking/baking.

"Spic" is racist slang for Hispanic. While there are certainly very light skinned Hispanics and Latinos who might look white, chances are that this prison guard isn't referring to them since he goes on to ask if Shadow has "n------ blood" in him. Ditto "gypsy".

I take it to mean that Shadow has dark hair and darker skin tone, but is still ambiguous in terms of race but is definitely not white.

Re: OK, I actually opened the book

I'd buy that more if it weren't a prison guard purposely heckling a former prisoner. The heckling was what registered to me foremost, so it sounded like a guy mocking another guy about his looks, rather than "Shadow is absolutely not white."

how is spic meant to imply european white.

This secret suddenly made me realize that I've only seen about one Astaire/Rogers film and that was about seven years ago. I need to rectify this immediately.

Is /u/ popular? I didn't think it was, but I'm seeing it mentioned a lot here.

I just looked up Wentworth Miller. He looks like a grown-up, less squinty version of Jimmy Hopkins from Bully.

Oh noooooooo. That accent was terrible.

I sure don't see anything wrong with that. Fry used to be a real dish.

I love this episode. Separating Goren and Eames really illustrated how amazing they are together.

Agreed. I've felt that way many times.

...No here though. What OP mentions didn't bother me much; Hutch obviously loves Starsky and that just seemed like the sort of relationship they had. They weren't always sugary sweet to each other, but they were nowhere near afraid of being intimate and supportive as well. It was a nice mix and I didn't get the feeling Hutch did or said anything out of serious malice (maybe that changes in the later seasons, idk). They each had a decent sense of humor and could poke fun at each other and that's a wonderful and enjoyable kind of relationship to have.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-28 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, it's his white heratige that is the plot point.

Also, they don't ask "what" they ask "If" that's how I read it.
That is not unique to mixed race. I recall back when I was 7/8, a teacher asked "Are you an arab?" because, I assume, I tanned like a motherfucker and stayed tanned most the year. My response back then was much the same as shadows "I dunno". I later that day learned what the teacher was asking. I am not, in case you are wondering, an arab. But the teacher asked because it was ambiguous. my ambiguous ethnicity was in fact white.
and as shadows ethnicity was the same level of ambiguous, there is no reason to assume he is POC or PONC

+1 I only dislike awesome cliches like that one when they're done badly or lazily.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-28 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Is spic not used for hispanic people all over the world? Sorry, maybe I'm getting my definitions wrong. What exactly does it imply?

Fruity notes? Sounds like a wine! To me it's just too... strong? I had a, was it 95% percent one?, and it wasn't my thing.
I'm not a chocolate lover in general and prefer white chocolate.
