Once a male character is canonically into guys then slash loses its illicit thrill. Slash is all about making hets sexually transgressive and part of it is the thrill the slasher gains from imagining non-slash fans will have a sense of outrage. You remove that then the whole thing is uninteresting.

Yeah...that's way too much analysis for my slash. I just like hot guys with nice dynamics. And if they act it out on screen it's a huge bonus. I don't have the whole illicit thing going, I shipped Brian/Justin from QAF like burning back in the day.

Well...you're almost right, in your first sentence? Non-canon couples are generally more popular than canon couples (although exceptions exist) and since canonically gay/bi characters tend to be written into safe monogamous relationships immediately, there's probably less fic about them in general.

Don't know about this guy, though. Was he bi in the movie/show/whatever?

Is he bi in the show? I know that lots of people got mad at one of the crew commenting on his sexuality being irrelevant, so the show doesn't have many fans.

I don't watch it because of the setting.

in 99% of constantine's storylines he's only shown interest in women, the bisexual thing was one story arc and a passing mention.

so while he's technically canonically bi, it's not like we're talking about jack harkness or nolan ross.

I dunno about anybody else but there's no one on the show I really want to slash him with other than Papa Midnite and that won't happen because PM is black and fandom is either racist or afraid of criticism.

I think it's sort of more...who would they ship him with . I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that both Chas ans angel guy are not typical prettyboy slash fodder.

Constantine's TV fandom isn't producing slash because Constantine's TV fandom barely exists. The show is utterly screwed.

I wonder how much of it is that he's not presented as a hot young straight white guy with another hot young straight white guy to play off of.

If they're playing him as older, it may not draw the kind of high-energy adolescent fans who do lots of fic early in a show's run.

And I've heard before the hypothesis that slashing is about having pretty straight white guys--the target obsession of young white women--snog each other. If Constantine is canonically bi, does that change? I don't know, though I started to say it was just to be snarky.

If Constantine isn't playing that hard to young women (and so far I'd say it's not trying very hard to play to young women) then it may not get that response because it doesn't seduce the audience who responds that way.

Did the Hellblazer comics spawn any slashfic? I have no idea.

I'd be all over Constantine/angel-guy tbh but the first few episodes weren't enough to keep my interest in watching, even just for the pretty angel-dude(who I figure wont turn up all that much anyway).

And I'm not someone who gets into a fandom for something I don't watch/read.

Honestly... usually I'm the first to slash people if I get some vibe of it in the show but with this series I just don't. Not even a mini hint or anything. He's so straight, it almost hurts.

But I also have to admit that I never read the comics (and didn't know more than the title of them) and such had no clue he was actually bi in comic canon.

I wanted to love it, but it was too boring. Also I had to get over my grudge for da Vinci's demons to even give it a chance. The showrunner is not someone you want running a slash-potential fandom js.

I don't watch this, is there another guy character he's compatible with? I can understand a lack of slash if say, he's the only good looking guy in a cast of fuggos.

I'm hoping the fan material for the show in general is going to pick up as the show establishes itself, assuming it gets the chance. Also, fewer SPN crossovers would be a good thing.
