33. North by Northwest! I love that movie. Aw, just generally speaking, a Hitchcock film fandom would be great. If only because every crazy thing that fandom already loves is already heavily implied all over the place with intent. Lol Freud. :D

(Anonymous) 2007-12-27 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
This is very true. I was a little amazed by how much gay and sadism/masochism and pretty boys with severe issues there actually were in Hitchcock's films. It's pretty awesome.

It would make for an incredibly, uh, interesting fandom.

2) THEY ARE SCARY! O_O Seriously, the scream the re-deads make in OoT is freakin creepy

8) That's exactly how I feel. They're just so awesome =D

I assume you're a Petlar writer? If so, please share with the fandom- there's some seriously AWFUL fics for this pairing right now.
sammywhatammy: (squee!)

25. Huzzah, another Nine fan~ ♥ Admittedly, I'm not in love with him like you are, but I do prefer him over Ten :) (Ten's adorable, but Nine makes me squee like I haven't done since I was 15.)

36. Well...it's not the greatest show on the planet. I've been a fan over it for almost 12 years, and I know that it's...well, crap. Even the manga. It's all huge ultimate girly fantasy. ...Doesn't stop me from loving it, for some inexplicable reason 8) If you do get into it, do so slowly. I'd even go so far as to suggest reading the manga and watching the anime alongside each other.

41. I'm not excited, but for a different reason... The storylines have been so boring that I lost interest and haven't read the manga for months. Not to mention that the Shippuuden anime DISGUSTS me and so I left the fandom in a huff, pissed and hurt. 'Cuz man, I've been in the fandom for years, too. And damn if I don't miss the orange idiot. But even he's not enough to pull me back. It's so fucking depressing.

[identity profile] scribe-protra.livejournal.com 2007-12-27 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
10. Awww, don't feel guilty. As long as you don't go around killing people there is no harm in thinking he is hot like a hot thing.

[identity profile] sirhellsing420.livejournal.com 2007-12-27 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
7 - Shinji was the best character in all of Evangelion IMHO.

41 - Don't worry. You'll still have Naruto Shippuuden to go through. ;D

(Anonymous) 2007-12-27 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
no, I mean Shippuuden. I mean EVERYTHING.

48

[identity profile] icouldbeblank.livejournal.com 2007-12-27 01:18 am (UTC)(link)

GET ASUKA OUT NO PLZ
SHE IS HOT-TEMPERED, BUT ALSO A DELICIOUSLY FREUDIAN, COMPLEX CHARACTER. I UNDERSTAND NOT LIKING HER BECAUSE SHE IS A BITCH, A LOT OF PEOPLE DO.
BUT GOD, SHE'S NOT SLASHWRITING WORTHY.
DID WE NOT WATCH THE SERIES? END OF EVANGELION? HOW THE FUCK DO YOU NOT LOVE HER IN EoE?? I DO NOT COMPREHEND.
OKAY, I'M DONE. fjkdsjkdsjfklds. Ugh.
GOOD JOB NOT GETTING HER AT ALL.

First Aeris and now Asuka? ... Wow. And people wonder why slash loving fangirls have such a bad fucking name, God damn.

36. People make mistakes. Try not to sweat too much over it. I bad-mouthed and ripped apart the video game, Megaman. Then in Highschool, a friend agreed to try my favorite game if I played Megaman X4 ( As he had the same attitude I did just about FFT ). I got hooked.

Now I have over 50 action figures, manga, a giant poster on my wall, I name my computers after Megaman characters, and draw fanart. . . >_>; No one ever stops and pokes me about how I treated it when I was younger. And if they did I would shrug and say, "I was wrong."

Anyway: Don't worry so much about watching an episode or two to see if you like it.

38. Awesome! :D

20. You fell in love with a photoshopped shot of Ed with a pasted on head? Wow. That's really...lame.

*hangs head in shame*

(It's not photoshopped; she's cosplaying.)

4. That's like me and Rokutanda from Marmalade Boy. For years I just referred to him as Hair Boy, and I had to check Wikipedia to make sure I got his name right here.

I would sort-of agree with the sentiment that some of these characters started out as stereotype-ish (as with tons and tooons of male characters as well) but what I think you're missing and completely disregarding here is that most of these characters (like CC, Asuka, Yoko, Winry, and so on) do go beyond these stereotypes you accuse them of as the show progressed. I am not going to go in-depth with how these characters break-free from their mounds but the vital thing here is that they do get some form of development and that these characters do get fleshed out.

I think you’re just stuck on the notion that “AH, THEY STARTED OUT AS STRONG, BITCHY, AND VIOLENT SO THAT MUST BE ALL THERE IS TO THEM” that your views on characters in general get clouded or something. Because, dude, Yoko, for one, is faaaaar from being a tsundere and I am seriously baffled by the merest mention. As a previous commenter said, stop it with the polarizing. It’s getting old.

Also, citing Haruhi as an example does not really help your case since that show godsmacks you with the stereotypes intentionally (I mean, Mikuru, Itsuki, and Yuki, anyone?).

39. Ahahaha I read that as Bono/Edgeworth at first, which.... hm. But yeah, Bono and the Edge are ridiculous. XD

29. Ugh, I feel your pain. ;___;

41. Judging by the way the manga has been going lately, I'm sure it's going to be pretty shitty. :\

42. I love xxxHOLIC and dislike Tsubasa aswell. CHEERS TO YOU.<3

TooBig: Yeeaah... I can't think very much of a character who says the name Naruto is "beautiful." That, and she fricken looks like Orihime... But I like Orihime.

14. I don't know if it's just SasuSaku, but I know I've encountered many a fic labelled NaruSaku that's really one-sided on Naruto's behalf. I haven't gone looking for SasuSaku fics because I usually don't like people's interpretations... I'd prefer SasuSaku fics and art with genuine passion.

41. Honestly? I'm glad it's coming to an end... I felt that it had tired out shortly after Arc II began and I don't like the tempting feeling I've been getting to hate it... A part of me still has such a love for what it was that I'm so discouraged at how scattered and sloppy everything is now. Yeah, I'll miss updates, but I want it to go out with at least some of its dignity intact.

42. Hm... Didn't we have a secret like this a while back? But really, I know where you're coming from entirely. HOLiC is my love and Tsubasa's my preoccupation, so I'm very discouraged at how long it's taking Tsubasa to catch up to HOLiC. Hurry up, Tsubasa!!. Also, I really don't like Sakura or Xiaolang as they're portrayed in Tsubasa; they were interesting and loveable characters in CCS and Sakura's such a plot device now while Xiaolang has the personality of a board.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2007-12-27 02:23 am (UTC)(link)

I am SO GLAD I'm not the only one who thinks so. CLAMP keeps repeating that "the soul is the same" and they managed to convince me with nearly every character, but these two... nope, not feeling it.

7-You're not alone. I see to an extent why people dislike him, but I think a lot of people just hate him because it's what you do, not for the valid reasons. (I do think there are valid reasons, but I've seen people hate him who haven't even watched it)

14-I was in a relationship (If you can call it that) exactly like that, or as close as you can get in real life (I'm not kidding, it's creepy, and makes me kinda sad), and looking back on it, I can see NO WAY it ever would have ended up well. Ever. I just can't see the personality types working well at all, in the end. Maybe for awhile, but not in the end.

41- I'm terrified to. Not so much of not having new information, I think the fandom will keep going for a long time to come, but because I'm putting my trust in him to do it right, but there are SO many ways for it to go wrong, and I trusted JK Rowling too.

14 OP

(Anonymous) 2007-12-27 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
So...because you were in a relationship that matched your view of SasuSaku, and it didn't work out, you have to look down on everyone who thinks the version of it Kishimoto presents in his manga could work? :/

'Cause, um, the secret wasn't about people not liking the pairing. It was about the way I feel the fandom looks down on people who enjoy the pairing. Obviously you've got personal reasons that bias you against it, and that's fine. It happens sometimes. That doesn't mean that anyone who does like it doesn't understand how relationships work or something. Which I know you didn't directly say there, but considering what you were replying to, the implication is there...

Just a Lurker...

[identity profile] shadsie.livejournal.com 2007-12-27 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
5 inspired me to chime in. You aren't alone, and that's not even an entirely new idea. I'm currently playing with an idea as a side-thing in a novel I'm working on, annd..... I *knew* I'd read something in the Bible about it. I looked up the verse. Hebrews 12:2 calls Jesus (God) the "author and perfecter of (our) faith" -- I know that it specifically regards the Christian faith and you may not be into that at all, but I thought you might find the "God as author" bit in an actual religious text interesting.

6. I enjoyed the Gungrave anime, but I'm not really up on the Gungrave fandom. I immediately assumed you're meaning slash because I assume that's how most people in fandom think these days (at the same time *really* hoping that you didn't, because I didn't see them that way and I'm wondering if I'm alone) - though you might not be and I might just be assuming things. Then, I couldn't help thinking "So, you found in fandom a very good friend who wound up betraying you and now you must kill them/you are destined to kill each other." Then I thought "Wow, I think I had a similar experience." I'm over it now - thinking about it made me laugh.

26. You do know that if they were real and could see this, they'd kill you, right? (Especially Asuka).

*Back to lurking*

Re: Just a Lurker...

Then, I couldn't help thinking "So, you found in fandom a very good friend who wound up betraying you and now you must kill them/you are destined to kill each other." Then I thought "Wow, I think I had a similar experience."

But if it ended like Gungrave, the two of you would have made up and then killed each other to get back to that perfect moment, so...

2. Oh my god, those shrieking skeletons in Twilight Princess. >.o Hate them SO MUCH.

[identity profile] elystia.livejournal.com 2007-12-27 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
2. AHAHA. When I first played OoT and I was like...EIGHT? And young, timid, and impressionable? I couldn't play the game without someone in the room because the Redeads SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME. (Plus those Dead Hand things, and Wall masters..DX) They still do. Although being able to make them dance around in Majora's Mask has helped curb my fear a bit.

Although the ones in Twilight Princess weren't as bad since they didn't rape you when they caught you.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2007-12-27 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
42. I like HOLiC much, much more than Tsubasa. That said, the breaks are there so it doesn't spoil TRC, not because CLAMP is abandoning it. They're working on both at the same time and TRC just happens to be neverending longer.

... there are people who think HOLiC is just a side story? I understand liking TRC more, but just a side story? When Watanuki is one of CLAMP's most developed characters in his own right?
