11. OH MY GOD YES.

26. I sort of know how you feel. LISTS HELP. Prioritize things maybe by what your friends recommend, or what you're most genuinely interested in (as opposed to getting a start on something just to participate in fandom/because everyone else has). Anyway, yes. Make a list of all the crazyass series that go on forever and if you can't decide on order, maybe go from shortest to longest? That way you'll get through more faster~.

27. The Name The Fandom thread is probably the best bet for those situations, but aside from that, amen. :C So many cool series people are gushing about, no idea what they actually are. It's v. sad.

29. Hi, I love you. ♥

34. fasl;dkj;lkj the screencap. *dies*

22. Some of us consider Amano to be one of the greatest artists in existence because we honestly really think his art is that incredible.

His Final Fantasy stuff is not my favorite. I do like his character designs for FFVI, don't get me wrong, but honestly, it's not his best work. My favorites are his illustrations for the Vampire Hunter D Novels, his 1001 Nights project, his collaboration with Neil Gaiman, the New York Salad project....

And have you seen his recent experiments? His traditional Japanese paintings are praised to high heaven almost unanimously by some of the most elite critics in the art world. You may not like his style, but he is an amazing artist.

Seriously, you can not like his style, that's cool. But he does have other styles, which I'd urge you to take a look at, and plenty of people admire and fan him as an artist, not just as 'that guy who does those popular video game designs'.

And I hope none of that came off as bitchy, because I didn't intend for it to be at all.

1. I feel the same. I always feel bad when I reply to an awesome comment with a crappy one. :C

22. I don't particularly care for Amano either. Some of his stuff is good, but most of it is too...loose, I guess, for my taste.

23. I'd been wanting to read that book before the movie came out, since my friend had been recommending it to me. Now I fear I never will because the movie's already set the chars in my head. D:

24. IAWTS. Boys that look like freakish girls with no bubz make me cry.

29. IAWTS LIKE BUUUUUUUURNING.

30. Hay thar, Gurofag. *shakes hands*

I feel for you. When I left about a year ago, it seemed like it was going to hell. I'll admit, I contributed to that with a story, but it wasn't as horrible as some of the rest, IMHO. When I checked back about a week or two ago, it seemed like it hit rock bottom. There's nothing good there anymore to tempt me back into Vam in general. Hopefully, it picks up and stops with the suck again, but since the turn of the community drove some of the great writers out, I doubt it's likely. I hope you do find a good place for Vam in the future though.
RIP the old comm. <3

12. Is...is that a Zanna, Don't! secret? *loves*

18. That franchise makes me cringe so bad. Er. That's not really the point, though. The point is that you're allowed to like whatever you want, and you shouldn't change your opinions to fit your friends'.

Which is why I continue to dislike HSM and SA both despite knowing and caring about far too many people who adore both.

1. D: Be thankful for the reviews you do get, even if you think you fail at replying to them! Shit, I've never had more than ten reviews on a fic I've posted in The Pit.

22. It's okay, I don't care for Amano's style either. :X

30. You like Rei guro? Well, okay then.

26. I can't speak for manga, but American Comics? 30 or 40 years worth of material, nine times out of ten, isn't necessary to catch the hang of things. (Usually twenty or so years ought to do it... but I'm a Marvel fangirl, so god knows about the DCU.) You just have to be willing to ignore your social responsibilities for a week or two. For fandom canon-thumping... man, I say two weeks is worth the sacrifice. :)

Re: 26

[identity profile] umbricman.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa good timing in comparison to my post, haha.

I could probably get back into the swing of things AGAIN, but every time I feel like I can settle down something new and big and generally pointless is coming back up to shake everything I knew once into oblivion.

Speaking as someone who had an inkling once of the general canon of superhero comics, I can say right now you shouldn't even bother, and I gave up, with the yearly crossovers that promise things to 'NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN' and the guys who died then waltzing through the door to be back a couple years down the road, as well as very unsensible retcons and vast amounts of tie-in issues you have to buy and buy again simply to get the whole story nowadays.

At worst, if you still wanna get into them, for Marvel at least I recommend Ultimate Marvel-especially the early trades. Only four titles max (though with an increasing amount of mini-series) and very high-quality, especially Ultimates 1 and 2.

7. I feel it's something way beyond weaboo instinct in your case, so don't feel ashamed.
And I have to agree that CCS Sakura > TRC Sakura. Even though TRC Sakura is eternally immune to alcohol poisoning.

21. You know, I feel your pain... I'm a master of the Divine Fist of the Double Crossover In-joke XD

4. Normally I'd have a serious/"word!" reply to this, but when I saw the pictures you used all I could do was laugh. XD

21. I saw "Naesala" and immediately thought of ONE PERSON LOL. >.>

30. ...I'd be more inclined to take you slightly seriously if her organs weren't spilling out. Unless this is a joke?

33. UGH WORD. Newsflash, happy endings ARE realistic. Not all the time, of course, but they're more realistic than 100% ALL ANGST ALL THE TIME. Though in the end I think it depends how it's done. Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu's first half ended so tragically, said tragedy was done so brilliantly, anything else would've ruined things. But I get sick of people criticizing 'happy couple rides off into the sunset/the world is saved/the big bad gets what s/h/it deserves' endings for things it wouldn't make sense to have a downer ending for.

37. Eh, the whole preconcieved aspect of 'fitting in' is overrated. I've found that the secret to 'fitting in' is just...well, BE there, talk to people, whether or not you share their views or have any writing/fic/RPing to toss in the pot. Then again, talking to people can be a little hard too if you're shy. >.>

8. Manga = comics.

Anime = cartoons.

Just because it's Japanese doesn't mean it's not a fucking comic book.

Yes yes, in b4 wank and general weeabooism, but Jesus fucking Christ you couldn't sound more pompous if you tried.

[identity profile] crackjaw.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
In that case, why call it manga if it ain't Japanese? Comics is a perfectly acceptable word. I use manga only to specify which language what I'm reading was originally written in.

22. I'll take 'sketchy but with good designs' over 'clean ZIPPERS ZIPPERS BELTS AND HAIRSPRAY" any day.

Of course, I'm a Yoshida fangirl at heart, but I'll take Amano scribbling on a table napkin over anything Nomura can crap out. It doesn't hurt that the games Amano works on tend to be better than the ones Nomura touches. I'm sure it's unrelated, but it sure is interesting that IX was about the only worthwhile numbered FF on the PSX, yes?

17. I think she's quite attractive as her own self, but when she's playing one of those characters she's truly fucking hot.

38. Batshit shippers from both the I/R and I/O side of that fandom confuse me, granted I haven't seen much from fandom, and contrary to what secrets say here the batshit seems to come more from the Ichigo/Orihime side mind you, Ichigo rescuing Orihime and then taking her for a romantic dinner at Las Noches and making sweet love to her after? (Or OMG! see the ending is now Ichigo/Orihime, it's fate D: no, not only Ichigo/Rukia shippers do it, Ichi/Ori shippers do it too) LOL!, have these people never read shonen? It's NEVER gonna happen.

People expecting romance are puzzling, like Kubo has ever shown any signs of wanting to take Bleach down that path (besides the odd bone thrown at shippers here and there).

40. I don't get this secret, is this like an in-character thing?

41. What fandom is this?
