If you are legitimately a feminist, and a woman accuses you of something horrible, and you really want everyone to believe you didn't do it, then fist you need to stop, and look at the situation, and ask yourself: How will me refuting these claims help women?

Will publicly stating that you are innocent do anything good? Or will it mean you are publicly calling the woman a liar, and making it infinity harder for other victims to be able to come forward?

If a woman accuses you, and you believe the accusation to be false and you consider yourself a feminist, prove it. Keep your moth shut, let it go to court and let the 'truth' come out naturally.

Just a little message for an ex-friend of mine.

If anyone accuses you of something you didn’t do, you might have an obligation to refute it.

Why?

Because if they are mistaken, the actual perpetrators might get caught that much quicker. If they are doing it for attention or because they are scared, then they might need help. If they are doing it out of malice, then that’s wrong and they should be stopped.

Of course, refuting it is different from name-calling or issuing counter-accusations.

God, OP, I totally agree. That is why I thought it was SO fucking stupid when people were saying that Eric Garner was innocent. I mean, come on. How is refuting those claims helpful towards justice? If those people really considered themselves good people, they would just shut up.

Men who wish to be considered feminists have to actually walk the walk, not just say they're feminists and act like this makes their every action okay.

In my personal experience guys who claim to be feminist--that is, vocally telling you so--are the least likely to actually give a damn about the implications of feminism. What they ARE going to do is latch onto things like sex positivity as an excuse to act shitty.

Also see: "not my shield," and dudes using "I'm a feminist' as a means to police femininity.

So if you're actually a feminist, how about, I don't know, not treating women like shit? You don't need to go around yelling about how feminist you are to be a feminist. If you feel women need to know you're a feminist in order to believe you respect them, then maybe there's something fucked up about you that would lead them to think otherwise. Work on that.
