Everybody in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

But I blame that more on the director than anything.

All those God!mode Harry Potter fics, where he is some sort of superpwered genius, or is that too general?

Oh, wait, I know. There is a Ranma fic called Successful Interview or something like that which removes all the lovable goofy mild stupidity from the Ranma cast and turns the whole thing into a Randian screed. It is horrible.

"Independent" /God Mode Harry Potter fics are the most annoying. I always back out of them when I start seeing the signs of one of the those fic.

its when they try to justify and rationalize canon and claim characters are not really as bad as all that, that it gets bad

Evil!Thranduil and Evil!Denethor are up there for their pervasiveness. But when they make Evil!Elrond, that's the absolute worst.

Yeah, the problem is you expect Thranduil and Denethor to be bad because they were, to a degree, in canon. Elrond? He was good. Maybe the first Hobbit movie made him a bit of an ass for not catering to the dwarves well, but that doesn't make him bad, just makes a supposedly wise Elf not so wise.

Can you tell that I mostly like Elrond?

One Doctor Who fic were Rose constantly raped and beat the Meta - Crisis Doctor and then left him for dead. When called on it, the author said they thought they were writing Rose perfectly in character.

What Jerkass Charlie? Saintly? Holy crap, Prof X is like the third (that third level spot is tightly fought for though) biggest asshole in Marvel's entire lineup.

The Man With The Thistledown Hair in the show version of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. He was so subtly creepy in the books -- it really snuck up on your and he was supposed to be charming. In the show it was all scary whispers and Dutch angles and made the character ridiculous.

Sexually experienced/suave Steve Rogers

Note that I have nothing against such characters (Tony Stark) or even if you want to interpret other characters this way (such as Bucky or Natasha).

But it just doesn't work with Steve.

This is guy who, by his own admission, barely knew how to speak to women. Who looks completely lost when kisses are planted on him. Who is uncomfortable with public displays of affection.

And even if you think that he could have had experience with men (since the whole not knowing how to speak with women doesn't apply there), there's still the issue of the guy waiting for the right partner and being terribly awkward.

It just doesn't work. He doesn't have to be a monk or anything but...he's no Tony Stark either.
