...and suddenly the recent Groan & Wail "op-ed" by Johnny-boy makes perfect sense; do the Yankee Doodle "advisers" honestly think we are stupid enough not to catch onto their plagiarizing ways? Even worse, they're plagiarizing tactics that got Romney TANKED. What is really going on here?

They were both popular hotshots who bullied those beneath them. Romney and his friends held a kid down and cut his hair, James and his friends used magic to humiliate a kid in front of his peers.

It's accurate insofar as both of them did a bullying thing, and probably did others

but using the one to draw comparisons from the other is fucking weird, given the different contexts and the lack of any real reason to suppose that the people or situations involved were the same

like i guess my point is that James & Mitt are only similar insofar as any people who've ever bullied anyone are similar - so why those two, specifically

Yes, but I doubt James would have continued on like that.

A lot of people like to shit on him and Sirius for it, but it's CANON in OotP that Sirius realizes it was a stupid thing to do:

It's pretty obvious Sirius and Remus had the maturity to concede that they hadn't been the best of people as teenagers, and if James had grown up similarly he too would have probably admitted to it.
