Stuff That's Annoying You

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, it's too early in the morning for this shit.

Someone on a writing reference forum asked for information about WoW for a minor scene, and OF COURSE some douchebag has to butt in with "well i don't know if you're really capable of writing that if you don't KNOW games like i do."

Like, dude, it's a reference forum. For people who don't know stuff to ask people who DO know stuff. Of course they're not a gamer, THAT'S WHY THEY'RE ASKING. Props to OP for actually trying for accuracy instead of just making shit up.

It's just the epitome of stereotypical douchebag gamer behaviour. If he was trying to sound like a combination of Regina George and Comic Book Guy, he succeeded! It's such a useless comment; it does nothing to help anyone except stroke his own ego.

UGH. Rant away, F!S. What's annoying you today?

That whole attitude of "you only get to talk about this thing if you prove that you're an expert in the minutia about it" is just really dumb on the whole and it needs to go away

Re: Stuff That's Annoying You

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
it's even more fucking stupid when people try to use it in a forum where the WHOLE POINT is that no one is an expert.

god i just hate that certain type of nerd who just HAS to make other people feel bad for not being an expert. they suck the joy out of everything. it's exactly why i avoid social stuff on MMOs. because there's always one like that guy.

I'd explain it to you, but you're really not capable of understanding that unless you're a unique and complex person exactly like me! :p

tw: eating disorder

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
My roommate is stealing my food because of her ED. Basically she won't let herself buy anything that she might find "tempting" but if the stuff is around she can't control herself. I didn't even know about it until the first time I confronted her about the theft, though we were friends from before. Now I really think I wouldn't have moved in if I'd known beforehand.

It sucks because on the one hand I want to be supportive, but on the other hand, food thievery is one of my worst pet peeves. I had to deal with it in college and at a former job, and now that I've got my own place that I'm paying a good deal of money for, I don't want to have to hide food in my room or go crazy with locks and keys. We've talked about it and she has promised to stop (for my part, I will now label everything that's mine), but it's created this weird atmosphere in the house and I don't feel comfortable at home or when I'm out.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's several levels of terrible, I'm sorry. Is your friend getting help for her eating disorder? It sounds like she really, really needs it. Either way, stealing food is unacceptable and it's only enabling her to pretend that she doesn't have a problem. The labeling is a good idea, but... that wasn't really the issue, was it. She wasn't ACCIDENTALLY eating food she thought was hers, because she knew damn well she wasn't buying "tempting" food, so there's no way that tempting food could be hers.

Your friend needs help.

It's really awful, but I have been that friend. EDs make you do horrible and often embarrassing things. Something that would have helped me back then was if the food was clearly labeled or if there was a sign or something reminding me in the moment not to do it. It sounds stupid, but it's little things that can break you out of the sort of ED spell.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I still to this day feel guilty of my own past food stealing. :(

A flock of blue jays moved in near me. They are so loud and mean! They wake me everyone morning with their screaming and they keep attacking my cats.

Awwww! I really love blue jays. They *are* mean birds, sometimes, but they're also really smart and so damn pretty. (I have a big blue jay tattoo on my arm.)

They're only attacking because the cats are predators. Maybe you could put a feeder up somewhere kind of high where they could congregate and not feel threatened? Might leave your cats alone then.

It's not just on forums, or even the internet, sadly. I once had a teacher tell another student that she wasn't there to answer her stupid questions. I wish I were joking. People are illogical sometimes.

But yes, it's irritating, especially when questions are invited.

A RL friend of mine on facebook keeps launching into ALL CAPS TANGENTS. The worst part is she vaguebooks at the same time, so it basically looks like: THERE'S NOTHING LEFT IN THERE. HOW CAN THERE BE NOTHING LEFT. GRRR. FML!!!

I have no idea whether or not I should be legitimately worried she's losing it, or if she doesn't get that she's doing the equivalent of wandering down the street screaming those exact same things. I have asked her about it before and she says she just forgets, but... it is really disturbing and uncomfortable, because it does make her look like she's losing her mind. :/

Unfollow, my friend. It sounds like she's desperate for attention, but you don't have to be the one who gives it to her.

(very minor griping here)

A person in my RP group has decided to up-play their character's biggest flaw (greed) so their character would be more complex. It's... getting to be a bit much... Also very annoying? Especially since they said they felt their character had little to no flaws until they started up-playing the greed. Even though.... That was so not the case.

(also, I admit, I'm a bit pissed, because they called my character annoying, when they started stuttering, even though the character was terrified out of his mind and I was just trying to roleplay the fact)

How is this playing out in practical terms?

I'm curious because in a long-running mystery series I've been getting into, avarice is the besetting vice of one of my favorite side characters. (Snobbery is a close second.) I still love her because it's easy to see where this would come from: she's a freed slave in the community of gens libre de couleur in the 1830s, so there's nothing assured about her status or her comfortable life.

I bought my Vita less than two weeks ago. I've had to go back to Gamestop for technical support three times, I had to exchange my Vita for another one AND reformat my memory card (deleting all my saves!), and I still can't get Playstation Network to accept my credit card for the download store. I never went through anything like this with my 3DS.

Accusing someone of being a part of the enemy group when they disagree with you on something usually tells me that you don't have an argument.

Also when your regular reaction to opposition or disagreement is "go to hell/fuck you, you piece of shit" or anything of the like, I really can't take you seriously.

This can be applied to just about anyone on the internet, really.

In 17 minutes my bus moved 1.1km.

Which means I will get to work late and have to finish late.

Also this lady is chewing gum really fucking loudly on the train. I'd move seats but then I'd have no seat and she doesn't deserve my seat. I really wish I had noise cancelling headphones.

Is it so hard to ask that customers know at least the title OR the author of the book they're looking for when they come into the store?

I get so many people coming in asking us to help them find a book, and they'll say something like, "I think it had something to do with WW2 or something." for instance. So then I ask if they know the specific title or author and I get, "Uhhhhhh...no." Or the title they do give me is way off from what it actually is.

Yeah. Thanks. That narrows it down.

And sure, I can look online, but our system we use isn't very good with general subject searches, it needs to be much more specific than that (which obviously isn't the customer's fault, since they don't know that, but it is an added pain in the ass for us). So then I'll go to Amazon and type in the subject matter of the book they're looking for...and of course pages upon pages of books relating to the topic come up, which can take some time to search through.

I'm not expecting a detailed printout or anything like that, of course. But at least a title? Or an author? Just something basic like that to give us a bit of a hand?

So, I'm a Christian, but a very liberal one. But as I'm home right now, I'm attending my parents much more conservative church.

So, today, the guest preacher was a Palestinian guy who used to be a student of my parents. We used to be super close. I called him uncle (he was also pretty handsome when he was a young guy, and he was my first real life crush). He was actually really amazing. It was all about love.

But, so, on our way out, I heard a lady express shock that there could be such a thing as a Palestinian Christian. And I'm pretty sure she said it in his earshot. She pointedly passed him and didn't shake his hand.

I just thought that she was really, really rude. Like, leave politics aside lady and if you are going to say something so rude, at least don't do it where he can hear you.

My father tried to say to me last night that "an obsession with race is a recent American import" (into Australia). We are white. Cue debate about the White Australia Policy, where he minimised it as "minor" (even though his wife/my mum came out to Australia because of it), and recent incidents of racism in sports (we were watching the rugby where a good proportion of the players were Indigenous THEREFORE there is no racism in sports nor amongst its audience, and Indigenous people who cry about racism are just imagining it because they're obsessed with race because America), and he finished triumphantly by saying that Muslims call people who have a problem with the religion racist, to further the recent American obsession with race agenda. I regret taking this "I don't see colour" bait in the first place! Usually I ignore it these days!
