<3 Don't worry about it, seriously. If a person is shallow and ignorant enough to dislike you because of your weight, who needs them? I'm a chubbo myself, and I know how hard it can be when people seem to scorn you. Just remember that they're the ones with the problem--and the ones who will miss out on knowing a hell of a lot of awesome people because of their own prejudice.

I'm sorry to hear you think so little of yourself...the only encouragement I can offer is that honestly, on the internet? It doesn't matter. Who you are is your words, your ideas, how you express yourself. And a lot of the 'skinny' people online are secretly fat, take my word for it ;) (A lot of the bnfs from my fandoms are fat, and they're some of the most fun people I know.)

27. I dunno what most people's definition of "Sue" is, but it seems to be any female character who is a) important to the plot and b) has some significant power that made her important to begin with.

To which I say: if there's nothing special about that character, then why would they be in the story? OK, you don't want some normal boring character in a sea of special people unless it's for a comedic effect like in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. I don't see why it's OK for the hero to be the Chosen One, but god forbid the female lead has some powers that make her relevant to the story and OH NO, SHE'S A CANON SUE BECAUSE SHE'S SPESHUL.

Well, no shit. Why the hell else would she be in the story?

It seems more like said females just have annoying character traits and it's easier to call them a Canon Sue then to just say "I don't like her." IT'S OK TO JUST SAY YOU HATE THE CHARACTER BECAUSE IF YOU FIND THEM ANNOYING, GUYS, THERE'S NO NEED TO DEVALUE HER ROLE IN THE STORY.

I just don't like hearing that so-and-so is a canon sue because she has some magical powers combined with a perky attitude and good looks when the male lead is probably the most powerful person on the planet and he has an angsty attitude and good looks, but it's A-OK because he's male and goes well with other guys.

Oh yeah, and 50:

I agree and that's entirely the reason I'm going to play this game. I'm sure I'll like it, but it looks like a KH high school AU and it amuses me.

Well in my opinion Kagome is a bit of a Sue--but then again I think a lot of characters are Sues.

Bella from Twilight comes to mind here.

I think there is a line where it crosses from 'a rationally special person' into 'Mary Sue'. Characters can have faults and still be special.

But at the same time, I agree with you that males never get a bad rap at all. THAT is extremely stupid.

11. Word! I really like Rose (though I think the Doctor has fallen in love with plenty of his previous companions as well). And I think one of the reasons I'm not as big a fan of Martha is just that Martha's...a little too perfect looking. She's gorgeous. Her hair always looks nice, her make-up is just right, she's got this great, slender figure, and dresses nicely. And don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm jealous. It's just that it's much much easier for me to relate to the averaged sized, jeans-and-sloppy-t-shirt, messy-hair, kind of awful make-up(not that I wear make-up) and all Rose.
Rose being an average (or even below average--lower middle class) girl kind of got me liking her as well.


15. I think you're supposed to pity him. That horrible life--that's what changed him from the fun, friendly con-man he was before into the creepy, bitter, dark-past-type guy he is now.


27. Read the Rhapsody books by Elizabeth Haydon. They will prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that there is such a thing as a Canon-Sue. I know I sound bitter, but really...I'd list the character attributes, but that alone does not make one a Sue. It's the writing around her and the way every character (and elemental power, etc) reacts to her, and the way she reacts to them. She's a Sue. A horrible, horrible Sue.
I only keep reading for Achmed.

But yeah, I agree about most anime heroines. They're not Sues. They're spunky, talented, flawed, and usually pretty freaking cool. Rhapsody...isn't.

34. I kind of have to agree with you, much as I hate to say it. I hated the kind of kitch "Everybody's a lesbian!" thing at the end that made no sense. But mostly, I just went along for the ride, because face it, Katchoo and Francine bounced back and forth more times than a paddleball. I just liked reading it.


57. Maybe I missed it, but I don't see why weight should be an issue in fandom. There's a stereotype, I guess, but there's a lot of stereotypes. Screw 'em. If they're judging you for something so ridiculous, they're not even worth thinking about.

I read Rhapsody. I read the whole stupid trilogy, and I did it for Achmed and... I seem to remember having another side character or two who I liked. But oh my gooooood. There has never been a Sue who could out Sue her--and I include Anita Blake in that.

It's worth noting that part of her being a Sue also comes from the fact that she seems to be the one and only good, strong woman in the entire universe. The others are all victims, evil... or possibly both.

Oh god. Giygas. I love Earthbound so so much, and Giygas/Giegue even has a fanfic in the works from me but goddamn if that thing doesn't scare me D: I'm just glad they couldn't have given him an actual ingame voice.

It's especially frightening because the light-hearted romp you embark upon suddenly gets twisted into an apocalyptic scenario with no way out.

Giygas's dialogue at the end is even more shocking, because it implies a very sexual, maddening facet to Giygas's reasons for obliterating everything that is so rarely seen in the stereotypical "malevolent force" antagonists that video games seem to love to overwork.

I've most certainly overthought this, but it seems so few people even know of Earthbound anymore. So thanks. :)

2 - To be fair, Minekura did have major surgery last year. She's entitled to a little time off. What makes me angry is that no one is publishing Gaiden over here. At least we'd have something new to read.

57 - Me too. When I cosplayed, I was terrified I'd end up on a mocking site or something. I just avoid those places. Most people at conventions are really nice, though. They won't care.

60 - It's been years, but In Space was always my favorite. I loved the crossover with Lost Galaxy, too.
