Because they are wrong? Because every single one of the problems they point to have their roots in sexism against women and patriarchy. Because men don't need their rights fought for. They have all the power. Because MRAs generally are actually extremely sexist even while they are pretending to be equalists.

They're mostly assholes, but really so are most feminists. Difference is the MRA are assholes in order to fight for me and people like me. I kinda don't think I deserve that, so either I don't hate them and become a self-serving dick, supporting a bunch of assholes just because they make me feel better about being a man, or I do hate them and by extenton continue to hate myself, but in that self sacrifice I become a better person.

My sense (O fellow man) has never in the slightest been that the MRA movement is interested in fighting for me and people like me. My sense has never been that they care about men qua men. To the extent that they do, it's on the basis of an understanding of what makes a man that has always seemed obviously false to me. I do not think that they care for the person. I think they are more interested than anything in messing with feminists.

It is frustrating that there is no good, decent network and movement around supporting & fighting for men* - I do find myself jealous sometimes of the kind of support network that feminism has built up for women, because it's kind of amazing - but MRAs are a solution that's worse than the problem.

*as an adjunct to feminism, not something that replaces or is more important than feminism

Hating them doesn't require you to hate yourself for your sex. Hating yourself for something you can't control is pretty damn unhealthy.

I disagree strongly with them on a philosophical issue, and find their arguments extremely weak - which in itself wouldn't be cause for emotion except that I have found most of them to be pretty much straight-up dickheads on a personal level. In contrast, while I have found some dickhead feminists, I have also found an extraordinary number of kind, intelligent, thoroughly decent feminists. I have never found any MRA that I would describe with those words. My sense is that most of them would reject the idea that those qualities are virtues in the first place.

So fuck 'em. They don't speak for me.

I don't hate them but I do find them frustrating because most of them take what are legitimate issues and pin the blame on women instead of the same system of strict gender roles that most kinds of feminists are trying to break down.

I don't hate them. They're just like feminists. More of them are annoying, stupid, and whine over made up crap. Some of them are cool, and intelligent, and not completely full of shit, and those are alright. Just like with feminists.

Because the name itself is false advertising. They don't give a single flying fuck about men, because they never mention any of their pet issues outside the context of trashing feminism.

If they cared about men at all, they'd be fighting to address things like the unfair mass incarceration of black and Latino men, the widespread sexual assault going on in prisons and the military, and the fact that in 28 states, a man can be fired and denied housing solely because he's gay.

But they don't care about any of that. They don't care about gay men. They don't care about black men or Latino men. They don't care about male victims of sexual abuse.

All they care about is trashing feminism. That's not "men's rights." That's "men's bullshit."

I keep reading mras as bras and that's honestly a better subject so I'm rolling with it.

Personally, I have big boobs so not wearing bra isn't an option for me. But it's such a pain in the ass to find bras that fit, look cute, and don't cost an arm and leg. So I end up wearing sports bras into disrepair and that's no fun.

Because I care deeply about men's issues and have been working to advance the dialogue on how they're interconnected with women's issues, but at every step I have to deal with the fact that those fucking misogynist shitbags have poisoned the fucking well around these issues.
