yeah one time I got off to humanized mlp porn w/o realizing it lol....that was scarring

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
aka, why I can't get behind Transformer porn

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I like Transformers explicit fanart as long as everything still looks mechanical.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
da

whaaat. TRansformers is one of those fandoms I definitely do not understand. Well, at least the porn side. I'd think 'humanized' robots would be the only way such porn would make sense?

I don't find it cringe-worthy just really, really weird. i have trouble connecting it to the original character altogether.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, I think I'm the opposite. I find it interesting to see how creative people get with it, and how they can "capture" the characters in a humanized form.

Especially in cosplay. Mascot costumes are not really my thing, but I like seeing everyone's different human designs.

Same! Gijinkas are my favorite thing. I love seeing how people translate non-human things into a human character design. ;A;

See, I'm really interested in it, but often I'm kind of disappointed. Many of them don't go for real creativity, imo, but have them wear really generic clothes and designs.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I see a lot of humanised fan art where it looks like the artist just took a generic character design and slapped a few details or colours from the non-human character on it. They look more like a random generic person who happens to be wearing a costume, than the actual character as a human. I mean, people can draw what they want, and maybe these artists are beginners at character design, and you kinda have to do something badly several times in order to get better at it...

I remember someone actually complaining that some people drew humanised Toothless the dragon as having dark skin... which makes a lot of sense, since he... is very dark as a dragon... and this person was like, you could instead draw him as a pale white dude with straight black hair and dark gothic clothes. And I thought this was kinda ridiculous because it sounded like they just wanted these fan designs to look more boring and less varied...

I like it too. When I used to ride the bus a lot, I'd spend so much time staring out the window and imagining what different trees would look like if they were people.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
That's adorable, haha. :)

I find it interesting to see how creative people get with it, and how they can "capture" the characters in a humanized form.

This is the same reason I'm still not tired of the 'make a Friendship Is Magic version of everything ever' trend (and why I was so enthralled by the customizing community even before then). I love the range of ideas people come up with when trying to fit something into a template while still maintaining its essence.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a brony who likes most fanart "humanizing" the ponies but i hated the art style they used for Equestria Girls. They looked like anime hookers with anorexia. Barf.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
It's a fucking crutch. I hate it too

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
This. I saw some humanized Rocket and Groot once and quickly 'noped' out as fast as possible.

Either give me the original, non-human versions or nothing at all, imo.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily.

It's not like they're trying to impress anyone they're just exploring what the character could look like.

It's a crutch to what? ~originality~?

Fanart is for fun. It's one thing to say it gives you a certain reaction but your statement is subjective. It comes off like "you're doing fanart wroooooooooooong"

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
I got no problem with artists genuinely reinterpreting silhouettes or other significant features for human-shaped versions of a character. But for purposes of getting off, why why WHY draw Generic Hawt Anime Girl/Guy versions of a character you like so that the genitals "fit together" better?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, I used to really love humanized AUs of the Penguins of Madagascar... until someone decided to ruin the fandom.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Lmao there was a fandom?
elaminator: (Mass Effect 2: Thane)

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-11-13 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't make me cringe, but I have no interest in it; if the character I'm into is alien, then I want them to stay alien. That's one of the things I like about them! (Plus...I find them more attractive that way. Don't get me wrong, if we're talking something like Mass Effect then I have a huge thing for Kaidan, but I also have a thing for Thane and want him to stay Drell; turning him into a human takes away some of that appeal.)

Plus I find most of the art to be kind of unimaginative and boring. There's probably some great, well-thought out stuff out there, but I haven't ran into it and I don't care enough to look for it.

However, different strokes.

I have to admit, taking a non-human I find attractive and humanizing them removes a significant chunk of their sex appeal for me.
elaminator: (Mass Effect 2: Garrus)

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-11-16 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yea, if part of what you like about them is their canon appearance why should it change?

I guess it's all in good fun but I've never seen a non-human character made human in fanart and thought, "Well, this is an improvement."

I could go either way-- in theory, I LOVE humanizations, but... so many of them are same-y and uninteresting to me, or seem to miss a huge part of the non-human character, fail to translate who they are. And I know a lot of fanartists are very young and haven't yet developed either the skills to draw a wider variety of body types and facial features, or the 'creativity muscles' to branch out, and it becomes an anime prettyboy echo chamber, and it's not because the artists are BAD, it's because they haven't stretched their wings yet, they aren't thinking as critically/creatively about character design as they could, and they might not have any background in character design or anatomy etc., so...

Like, I groan and roll my eyes and say I don't want to see one more hot skinny white dude in place of a non-humanoid character, but I think I just need to try to hope that a lot of these kids are going to get better with time, and there are artists who've done fantastic and creative things.

(humanizations of already-really-humanoid characters I don't get, though, unless it's a specific AU. It's one thing to draw a human version of a car or whatever, but seems like there's less point to drawing a human version of a human-shaped alien unless it's like Deep Dish Nine or something?)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-13 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if this is because of Undertale, haha.
