Dating and elitism

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Is there anything about a person in general that makes you lose all interest in them? For those of you who use dating apps especially, anything on the profile that makes you sort of stick your nose up at that person?

Shouldn't be anything common sense like "they're racist/sexist" or whatever.

Guys who have Ayn Rand as one of their favorite authors. Just makes me think they won't be nice people to hang around with.

Re: Dating and elitism

This is elitist, I know, but I'm nearing thirty and I don't have any interest in dating someone who just works an entry level customer service type job, like a waitress or whatever. Unless they are just down on their luck at the moment and this isn't typical for them, or they are currently working toward a degree or other greater ambition. I'd also have a very hard time dating someone who didn't go to school.

I think the key word for me is ambition. I don't want to be with someone who isn't working to improve their lot in life somehow.

Bad grammar. Obviously I don't expect everyone to be writing on a college level (I myself am super bad at commas and run-on sentences) but if you can't even be bothered to use capital letters, chances are I'm not going to bother talking to you. I mean, I'll answer a message you send my way, because that's just good manners, but I generally backtrack out of those conversations as fast as possible. I'm sure you're a lovely person but if you're not willing to extend the bare minimum of effort, why should I?

I can't stand people who want to be babied. I'm not your mommy. Grow up.

Also when they have a humor sense that is very different to mine. I think being able to make each other laugh is a very important part of a relationship.

Is there anything about a person in general that makes you lose all interest in them?

I'm not interested in people that only want an age group younger than them (for instance, a 50 year old looking for someone 19-25) or who sets their age as their top tier. I.e a 40-year old interested people 30-40.

We're supposed to date someone a decade older than us but for some reason you won't put up with that for yourself? Get bent.

Dunno if that's a common sense one or not. I've seen other people bitch about it, so maybe.

To be honest, the only things that make me feel that way are things that lead me to conclude that there is no way on any possible earth the person would ever be happy dating me.

If they don't write well and don't mention reading as a hobby. Enjoying reading and having an appreciation of the written word are really important to me, and though I have no problem being friends with people who don't read, I wouldn't want to date or partner up with someone with whom I can't share this big part of my life.

Re: Dating and elitism

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care what job they have or how educated they are. This isnt' something I would necessarily pick up on if I was using a dating app, but being a lazy/bad worker. I just don't have any patience for that.

I work too damn hard to manage my own company and make sure we're the best in our industry. It would just always piss me off to date someone who can't be bothered to show up for work on time, or is always sulky with customers, or never takes any initiative to improve or whatever.

Re: Dating and elitism

Jealousy. I don't feel it myself, and I think it betrays a fundamental lack of trust in the person you're with.

I'm a flirt with my friends, but I'd never cheat. If you can't deal with that, if you're like my third BF and forbid me to have any contact with my male friends, you can go fuck yourself, not me.

Bitterness. If I see a guy whining about his single state or how it's so awful women don't fuck him, I am noping out of there so fast.

Re: Dating and elitism

I can't see myself lasting long term with a vegan, picky eater or anyone with severe dietary restrictions. Ditto smokers, and I don't care if it's cigarettes or weed or vaping. I can't do smoke.

Re: Dating and elitism

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
* Textspeak. I don't care if you're composing your profile from a phone, because if you don't believe demonstrating that you can write properly is part of making a good impression, we're too different.

* no mention of books or a love of reading

* mention of weed/drugs/alcohol - if any of these things are so important you feel the need to mention it on a dating profile, we won't be a good match

* scraggly or unkempt facial hair. Well groomed facial hair is fine.

Hates children or cats.
Bad-mouths one or more of his exes.
Complains all the time.

And a super-picky eater would get on my nerves right quick. I'm not talking about someone with a list of a dozen or so things they won't eat--I mean someone with maybe about a dozen things they WILL eat.

Has children. I'm not your new babymomma, nor am I your nanny. Unless you're paying me to watch your kids, I really don't want anything to do with them.

Is REALLY into they're lifestyle/beliefs. You're Vegan? Cool, I'm not. You're religious? Cool, I'm not. Don't push your beliefs/lifestyle on me, and I won't push mine on you.

If a guy says he's "traditional." As a female, that's a giant red flag for me, because I automatically think "I want you to stay at home and cook, clean, have children/raise mine regardless on how you feel about it."

Jealously/possessiveness. Look, I'm not going to cheat on you just because I walk out of the house. No, I'm not cheating on you with my guy friend of like twenty years (who's married/has kids) Back off and calm your tits.

No shared interests or looks down on mine.
