Dude. The show's been off the air for how long? Get a grip.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt and I've seen it already, but it's not like everyone's seen the show and it still seems like common courtesy to warn for major spoilers.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
As is repeated ad nauseum around here, SECRETS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.

[personal profile] diet_poison 2016-01-20 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
And people like you repeat it EVERY TIME this is brought up like it's going to change the fact that it's still a basic and easy courtesy to use a spoiler tag.

I almost have to wonder why you still go around shouting this. What have you got to gain by not using spoiler tags?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh please. How many years do people have to warn for spoilers? Rita was killed off at the end of season four, season four ended six fucking years ago.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
How about always? Unless the spoiler in question is iconic and common enough in pop culture where it's semi-common knowledge. Why would you specifically want to be a dick, when you could just not be a dick?
kaijinscendre: (Default)

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2016-01-20 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
That isn't specifically being a dick.

Specifically being a dick is someone going, "I'm going to watch the Sixth Sense today! I've never seen it but I hear it has a cool twist." And then you go, "BRUCE WILLIS IS A GHOST ALL ALONG!!!!!!"

Otherwise, learn to deal with spoilers.

[personal profile] diet_poison 2016-01-20 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
But it's so easy to make a spoiler tag. Like. So fucking easy. It takes ten seconds and that's only if you type really slow.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
exactly. And I doubt anyone makes a huge spoilery secret like this without even considering that it's a spoiler. making a spoiler warning takes two seconds.
kaijinscendre: (Default)

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2016-01-20 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
We should just never talk about movies/shows/books/games. Ever. Because you never know if that one person who doesn't know how Citizen Kane ends is around. Just watch things, and keep that stuff deep inside you.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like your sentence has nothing to do with mine. Are they related at all? How is taking two seconds to warn for spoilers equating to "WELL THEN WE SHOULD NEVER TALK ABOUT ANYTHING EVER" to you?

No. Sure for a movie that just came out, add a spoiler tag. Something from years ago? No. That is your responsibility to avoid spoilers.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
How the fuck can one avoid a spoiler for EVERYTHING? It's one thing to not go on a specific forum or read fanfic within a certain fandom, but your suggestion is dumb and unreasonable since this place is multi-fandom.
kaijinscendre: (Default)

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2016-01-20 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
You avoid it by not going on the internet if you are that worried about being spoiled for something that happened years ago. :D

Why is it so important for you that you avoid spoilers for EVERYTHING? I honestly don't get this. For new stuff, absolutely, because not everybody has the chance to see something first thing and should get the chance to experience it unspoiled, but for things that are years old? Like the secret, which is apparently something that happened in 2009? You had over six years in which you could have seen the show. You had six years in which you could have been spoiled for the show without even giving a damn, because you weren't watching the show a the time. But you were accidentally spoiled now and it's a big enough deal to fly in a rage over?

And for an anecdote: I've never seen Sixth Sense, but I know that Bruce Willis Is A Ghost. One of the best movie plot twists ever, apparently, so great that it became long-lasting meme, and I'll never experience it because I've been spoiled for it. Does it suck? Sure. But I don't see why I should rage about the fact that I've been spoiled for a movie that came out in 1999.

You do realize that a lot of people wouldn't even consider that to be a spoiler because the show ended so long ago, right? They probably didn't tag it because they didn't think anyone would care about a show that's been off the air for a few years now.

It is so stupid. The entire Spoiler Culture. For like...4 weeks after a movie comes out? Sure, warn for spoilers. But years after a movie or show has ended? Get out of here.

[personal profile] sarillia 2016-01-20 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I agree that people get way too dramatic about spoilers sometimes, but I don't quite get the point of the time limit that people put on spoiler warnings. People talk about it like it's common sense but I just realized that I don't actually know the reasoning behind it.

Agreed so hard. My personal statute of limitations on spoilers is one year. After a year, I figure that the people who really wanted to see/read/play the canon have already done so, and I'm going to stop warning for spoilers.

Exactly. How much of a hardship is a fucking spoiler warning?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe OP didn't think of it? I don't think it's a given that people are just too lazy to put in spoiler tags, although some might. But when you're familiar with the source material, sometimes you take it for granted that everyone is equally familiar with it, particularly when it's been out there for years. I think it's equally likely that it was an oversight.

I don't like getting spoiled, either, but when it's taken me this long to finish watching BSG, or Breaking Bad, and yes even Dexter (I think I saw up to the end of Season 5), I'm not going to get my knickers in a knot if I accidentally come across a spoiler.

OP

You got it in one. I was distracted when I was submitting it and forgot a spoiler warning.
