Dude, I have even played ANY of the fucking games and I would still hit that. Like, hard.

Also lol for RP accounts.

36. Funny. I always saw them both as Dads... but I suppose you would rather go to Phoenix for girly emotional support and Edgeworth for just, you know, Dad things... Huh.

I can't see it the other way around though, you're right~

53. Well, I've always seen them as against what religion tends to be like today, not just against religion; like they'e against the organised religions that try and tell people what's in their scripture and what to believe because it suits them.

I've never seen it as fully against religion and looking at it I don't think I ever will... Eh.

66. Because people look for different things in films than you. Shock, horror, etc etc etc.

IAWTS. I just don't see it, either.

My amen to this. Although it seems some people are a bit confused on both sides, so here's a handy guide to what I see as the issue.

The difference between a Firefly fan and a Browncoat, as observed by a Firefly fan:

A Firefly fan likes the mythos; a Browncoat emphatically embraces the mythos and all outgrowths thereof.

A Firefly fan has watched the entire series and the movie, and probably owns all of the above so that he/she can watch the extra content and rewatch anytime. A Browncoat is likely to have memorized a good deal of the above.

A Firefly fan has a good chance of having watched and liked other Whedon shows. A Browncoat believes that having watched and loved all other Whedon shows is integral to Firefly fandom.

A Firefly fan may know of charitable involvements by Browncoats. A Browncoat plans his schedule around them.

A Firefly fan calls himself a Firefly fan, and calls a Browncoat a Browncoat. A Browncoat calls Firefly fans Browncoats. Or, in short, a Firefly fan recognizes the difference between types of fans, while a Browncoat doesn't acknowledge that there is a difference. Which is pretty embarrassing to a plain old fan who happens to be wearing a Serenity shirt to a con and is mistaken for a Browncoat...by a large group of Browncoats. It's like escaping Jell-O.

And what happens when the Brownies find out their victim does not live up to their standards?

I feel very bitchy today.

#18. If they're both shitty then you're not misrepresenting any of them, so I don't see the problem here.

#22. That's a man? Color me surprised.

#29. I agree with your sentiment, but the fact that you can't even be arsed to check episode titles makes me think you're just another Peter fantard, sorry. I'm sure you fit in perfectly where you are.

#32. Thanks, doc! Your internet diploma in the psychology of sexual kinks really opened up my eyes to how wrong and sick a person I am for being able to distinguish between fact and fiction!

#36. The sole fact that you and your fandom see them as "mom" and "dad" at all groups you all in the same category of fantards. Cf. responce to #29.

#42 = #29 = Peter/Sylar shipper, cf. responce to #29.

#60. I'm pretty much in the same situation, and ... I'm not sure what your problem is. The other half is not, and this ... means what? I don't get it.

53 Wankity Wank!

(Anonymous) 2008-03-07 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
I like HDM for being anti-religion and I like Narnia JUST AS MUCH for being pro-religion. I can respect books like LoTR that work hard to avoid allegory (obvious anti-industrialism aside, oops!) but it annoys me that any time a work of art actually has something to say about the real world, everyone flails around screaming about preachiness blah blah etc.

It would be different if HDM and Narnia slowly turned into 1,000-page rants by the authors about their views without the pretense of plot or character, but honestly, they don't remotely, and who cares what the authors say about them? Readers are not being forced at gunpoint to read any additional author interviews/comments. Just enjoy the damn books if you enjoy them.

I think it is very interesting and fun to see other people express opinions, even when I violently disagree with them. Why does all art have to be carefully vague, revealing nothing about the author's thoughts on life? Why does art have to avoid issues that people care about (or at least controversial issues, or if it does it has to avoid having a point of view)? Neutral and vague art; that's okay, too, but most art does some kind of bias or opinion. Why is that so horrible?

37. Who doesn't?

52. I've never shipped them, but oh god, those two mean a lot to me.

66. The trick is to stop taking it seriously, and start seeing it as Disney's hilariously fucked up attempt at making their own "Into The Woods". (Yelling "SLUT" every time Susan Sarandon talks does wonders, too.)

44. PLEASE DO. I would read them. ALL OF THEMMMM. ♥ Gaaah I LOVE the Gramaryes. *Especially* Valant. Favorite character, right there. ♥

Aah, this is so sweet. I get a bit freaked when people post about changing their lives, what they look like or how they act because of a fictional character. (I guess one has his/her own way of feeling better, but I just don't get it. Sorry!)

Anyway.

I love Kaworu and this secret made me feel very warm. Even if it wasn't for anybody/anything in specific, it seems as though somebody could have dedicated this to me and that's a wonderful feeling. So thank you for posting this! <3

OP #1

(Anonymous) 2008-03-07 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)

Oh, no. No worries. I have to admit, I find it scary myself when a person's creation can wield that much impact, but I find it comforting to think that because it is an extension of another person, it proves that humanity doesn't necessarily need to be molded by a direct approach. Sometimes it is easier to speak to the reluctant through literature, art, and music. I know whenever I write, I hope that I can change a person's perspective -- Or, just make them feel that awe for a character they normally wouldn't like. I'm not like most in connection with "characters changing people," I don't mold after them and wear their clothes -- No, I think that generally witnessing this character made me feel better about something that was already there and I was too scared to admit.

Alternately, you're very welcome. ♥

And you sound very familiar. [x

HOLY SHIT WEIRDSISTER COLLEGE.

I watched that every fucking day, I loved it so much. I had a gigantic crush on Christian Coulson (in retrospect, I am becoming fonder of Hobbes!) and when he got Tom Riddle in CoS I was so proud, because I knew who he was! So, friend me Anon #25 and I will go about finding the DVDs.

I don't think my original opinion was clear enough so I'll just rehash it here. Guess what? Fandom doesn't support rape and incest. How do I know this? Well the very fact that many people have said that they don't like the kink so far as well as you anon poster of secret.

Now to cover an opinion of one of the commenters. Yes, incest and rape are illegal acts in reality, but so is murder. That doesn't make murder mystery stories illegal though, sorry to burst your bubble. No. I don't support the acts of real incest or real rape, but come on! What happens in fiction doesn't equal to what happens in reality. Learn the difference and stop reading those fics and getting mad at them. If it's not your thing, then don't read it or at least demand that it's in the warnings so that you can skip over them.

22. My mind exploded. EXPLODED. hot

24. UNF POKEY. The sad thing is some Japanese fanart sites do make him kinda hot. Particularly that one site that did Pokey/Ness/Giygas non-con lolwut

28. I'd ship it anyway. >_> Even when Noodle was younger. (Is the art from where I think it's from?!)

49. ... *CHOKES*

51. Oh my god, Earthworm Jim! I loved those games! Even though my four-year-old gaming skillz were not enough to beat them fair and square (I... was fond of using that beat-the-level cheat to beat the game again and again >_>). I would be estatic if he were in Brawl.

54. I saw the stage version first. While seeing the movie helped me understand the plot a little better (and catch details I missed by being in the back row lololol), I definitely prefer the stage version. But oldsk00l? LEROUX MOAR.

13. I understand your pain XD But I know two girls who like it, if that helps.

22. OH SHI-

But really, out of all the yaoi ships I've come across, no matter how cracky, this is the only one I just can't see happening. And I'm usually easy with ships.

51. I have to admit, if he somehow got to be in Smash, I would consider buying the game.
That, and I played the hell out of the first game back then.

52. I really need to listen to this song...

[identity profile] avenginglyyours.livejournal.com 2008-03-07 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
29 For serious: I hate it when people write characters OOC but let's be honest. Peter was a bad-ass in Five Year Gone. An episode that took place in an alternate future.
In the timeline created after they all 'defeated' Sylar? He's still a whiny emoboi who doesn't even think to read Kensei's mind when people keep telling him he's a bad guy.

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-03-07 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
...I was just saying the same to a friend, and wondering if I should reply this here. XD There are 33 episodes other than FYG, and Five Years Gone is an alternative future that will not happen anymore, so basing your characterization entirely on this AU wouldn't be the best of ideas.

"Bad-ass" is not the first word that comes to mind when I think of Peter, but I agree with the OP that Peter doesn't really act like the stereotypical girl, either. both terms are annoying extremes, and characterization is usually more complicated than that...

Come

#30: Vulva!

"I can't believe some of the shit I used to do with you!"

#57: A threesome between those them would be disturbing and non-sensical. And I would *love* to see it! Moss would probably faint with the strain of it all.

32

(Anonymous) 2008-03-07 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
32. OKay, you know what, unless we are talking about rape that is also incest.

Why the hell are you equating consensual sex between two people who just happen to be in the same family with rape?

One is a vicious attack where one forces him/herself on another, usually in an act of domination and power.

The other one is sex between people who share a bunch of chromosomes.

IMO, putting those two in the same category is PRETTY FUCKED UP.

Just because someone is opinionated doesn't make them a 'troll'. But I can see both sides to this argument here. People will write what makes them happy no matter what anyone else says or thinks. Personally I don't want to be raped but my partner and I do play it out in the bedroom as a power exchange sort of thing. Yeah, I bet if some people knew of our sex life they'd call us freaks and maybe even wish rape on us so we'd 'know what it's really like'. That's fine. Wish all you want, it wont make it happen. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what they like and everyone else is entitled to their opinion too. I don't have to agree with it, I don't have to even like it, and guess what the clincher is? I don't have to read it. That's the beauty of content tags in fiction. "Incest rape fic staring X and Y!!!! ^_^" I know not to read any further. But I do get the frustration when you see it everywhere. Kudos for expressing your opinion, and people try not to jump on the troll word just because someone's way of expressing their thoughts is different from yours.

[identity profile] meagenimage.livejournal.com 2008-03-07 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
How about this....

People who agree with 32 are entitled to the opinion that liking rape fantasies makes a person a freak, and I'm entitled to the opinion that they are all morons.

Everyone wins?
