53. I completely missed all that subtext too. It really does make it harder to enjoy once you know. I was really disappointed when I found out a lot of people didn't like it because of that, and I was like, "That's not what it's about!" And then I realized that, yeah, it was. I maintain that the anti-religious message isn't necessarily the first thing you'd connect it to if you don't know about it beforehand. Long story short: you're not the only one.

I wouldn't really call it anti-religious, but that's up to you. Like someone before me said, why can't it be both? I was really religious when I first read the books, and I thought it was a wonderful story on multiple levels. I personally don't think it's anti-religion so much as decrying what happens when religion is given a lot of power.
