not!secret 2: Seriously. I did like the movie, I thought it was well-made, but it wasn't nearly as loyal to the book as I heard it would be and cannot hold a fucking candle to it.

not!fandom 2: . . . um, last I heard godmodding and godmoding weren't the same thing. Godmodding's controlling other people's characters; godmoding's setting up your own character to be automatically more powerful than everyone else's ever. The latter frequently leads to the former, but they're not the same thing.

46) OH GOD YES! I love the books (I liked Castle in the Air too, so shoot me), I liked the movie, but the movie is not the book! And it's just annoying that the fact that that movie - which is only slightly based on the book - will stop a proper adaptation from being made. >:(

Wow, I never even noticed before how bad Henmi's hair looks in that wedding shot. Um, apart from the whole "Lesbians? WHAT LESBIANS?" thing, I actually thought the ending was okay, and I was glad that Kaoru/Henmi got a happy ending. But the ending episodes are not exactly my favorite of the series, and I tend to skip them when rewatching.

It would have bothered me less if there was more buildup to the Kaoru/Henmi thing - but all there was was a few vague allusions to them knowing each other and something bad having happened, and then SUDDENLY it's this tumultuous love affair at the end, and their relationship really hijacks all the other elements in the plot.

After Rei's death, personally, I would rather have had an ending focusing more on Nanako - since she's kindasorta the main character. (Kindasorta. I think of the story as being from her POV, while Rei was really the main character :/)

Okay, and I really wanted to see if people would LOL at a 'I hate dude X' for getting in the way of the yuri' secret XD

56: I never really understand this concept. I liked a lot of characters growing up that had a lot more self-confidence/were braver than me, and it didn't make me any less of a huge weepy pussy. It's going to take more than a character to change who you are. You've got to do a little legwork too.

Not to deny the catalyst for change comes from within, it certainly does, but not everyone is so self-posessed at age 6. I can remember telling myself to act a certain way because that was how one of my heroes acted and everyone liked her, so if I was like that then people would like me, too. I've since grown out of that mindset, but Nami and characters like her, who don't care what other people think of them and aren't afraid to be smart, or assert their opinions, or be comfortable with their bodies, or be afraid to be single, were something of a wake-up call to me. They were what I'd always wanted to be but were afraid of because I'd grown up with an idea of what girls "should be" from outside sources.
