#44. I still would have preferred a story that focused on Yui and her seishi rather then Miaka. They've all got some serious issues that make for more realistic characters, though all the almostrape!scenes and the Yui hating Miaka fo evar THING got really tired. I can see why it's the reason you hate anime, it epitomizes a lot of what's wrong with it.

Don't worry, don't worry... I can definitely tolerate that you like Adam. Hell, if we all had the same taste, we'd be killing each oter over the same guy and no one would win!
Sometimes it just gets on my nerves that he receives such raving praise from a lot of people. Even before the season started, he got praised beyond reason, while the girls got bashed. Especially Elle (Kirsten Bel would ruin the show, people said) and Maya (got called the "token Mexican" before she even had one scene, talk about never giving them a chance), Monica got mostly ignored at least...

You know I never did feel they developed the Nebula/Iolaus relationship right. I liked them better as friends with benefits rather then the whole "two wuv" deal they did in that episode. They ruined several things in the last season of that show. =/

11. Personally, I don't recall anywhere in fandom where I've been made to feel ashamed or self-concious about being an American. It seems like people from other places I've met *understand* that I (and other Americans) are *individuals* who may or may NOT agree with what the leadership is doing. Maybe it's just the people I've encountered.
Now, being a Christian in fandom on the other hand... Whole 'nother story.

I only occasionally watch Monk; I think it's a cute show, but it's not my favorite and I don't have cable. I've seen mostly episodes with Natalie, one or two with Shirona, like Natalie but don't have a huge opinion either way.

What I want to know is: does Monk fandom, however much there is one, argue this like Doctor Who does with Rose and Martha or due South has the Ray Wars? Because I am really fucking sick of hearing about it, honest to God.

And yes, I probably spelled somebody's name wrong. I'm sorry.

There were disagreements when Sharona was replaced, but that was several seasons ago. The disagreements come up every so often, but it's never at the level of flame wars and crap like that (unlike with Doctor Who, which I am frankly fed up with!). All of the the discussions were (and still are) very civil. You see, the Monk fandom is small and we don't have stupid teenage drama queens. A lot of people are still loyal to Sharona, which is why I made this secret in the first place.

Haha. YES. In a way Owen's undeath has given him a whole new lease on funny things to say. His character appeals to me much more because of the things he's having to do - I was howling with laughter during the apartment cleanout and the angry swim in the bay. First times I've ever felt as though I could see his side of things.

30) Poor Megu, she really did get shafted in the romance department. Oddly enough, the gradual rekindling of Ayato and Haruka's relationship years later was my favorite part of the series. And yet I am fully aware that if their genders had been reversed I would have abhorred it.

While I don't ship them, because I really like IshiHime and slash isn't my thing, I wouldn't think it's a bad thing if you'd like to. I was in an RP once where the two interacted, because Aizen found a way to use Ishida against the others... and it was really interesting because they are both very intellectual, and who doesn't like picking on Ishida and his smarts or to see Aizen really out think and manipulate people? It's a shame the RP died. :(

5. I don't prefer Natalie, but only because she was so Sharona!redux. They gave her a different character, but they gave her all of Sharona's bits of set-up (single mother, 13-year-old, etc). It just...I dunno. I hate it when they make a replacement character who's too similar to the one that came right before.

42. I can agree with that. I'm a practicing Christian (a bad Catholic today, given that I ate meat...but my roomie mad a pork roast!), but that book, and a lot of similar stuff, impacted my religious views alot.
Namely, the hope that God must have a sense of humor, and the idea that just because a bunch of really good people think they're right about how it works out...that doesn't make it show. Ineffable.


44. Aww... that was my first not-on-Cartoon-Network anime. Me and my best friends bonded over it. It had a huge impact on my life just through sheer ripple-effect.
But yeah, we went back and watched some with my best friend's little sister, and it's pretty cheese-tastic. I still love it though.

50. I can't ship Wash with anyone but Zoe (otherwise, I'd've Sued myself with him ages ago). Their relationship was so beautiful. It's probably my top favorite canon-ship, right after Doctor/Rose (which was romantic, but not sexual, so at least Wash and Zoe got to do things like say "I love you" and share a bed and all).

52. Yeah. I'm not 100% disappointed with it, but the more I think about it, the more... y'know what, JKR's making me so mad with so many other things, that when I think about the screw-up with Snape, I don't have enough energy or vitriol left to do anything but kind of sigh.


54. Agreed. Agreed so hardcore. Hermione scares the crap outta me. And when kids say she's their rolemodel or something, I get equally terrified. I mean, it's easy to see her and think "Oh, look, a smart girl who doesn't hide her smarts and who stands up for what she believes in." But after a while, it seems like that's just surface!Hermione, because the Hermione I see is...well, just terrifing. I get cold thinking about her.

44. Explain plz? I'm not disagreeing (me and my roommates rewatched it recently and, even though I still like certain parts and characters, a lot of it was definitely bad), I just really want to hear your reasons.

I'll admit, not all of it was bad, but the best thing they ever did was Nuriko's death-- it all went downhill from there. Miaka is your typical 'cute but stupid' anime girl who's the heroine because she's super optimistic, cries sparkly shoujo tears, and is loved by every man in her immediate viscinity (even the gay ones) because of her innocense, naivite, and constant need to be saved. I really hate this archetype and she's one of the reasons. Even her friend, the supposed smart one, is a dumbass. How can these girls not be able to tell that they haven't actually been raped? They believe it because some strange guy told them so, despite the fact that there's no physical evidence to support it. It smacks of overwraught melodrama and if either of them had had a lick of common sense between them, could have been completely avoided. Most of the main characters are just broad charicatures with no dept but long shiny hair and pretty faces, so fangirls love them anyway (the one guy who wasn't pretty and seemed somewhat interesting never got any screentime), and the drawn-out, beaten to death, over-the-top romance between Miaka and Tamahome made me want to chew tin foil by the end. So much of it was needless, so much was overdone or poorly done, so few characters were interesting, and the crux of the entire plot hinged on the two heroines' complete lack of a brain stem or emotional maturity (to the point where neither of them were sympathetic at all) that the show is unwatchable for me. And yet I see these same things crop up over and over again in other shows.
