What sexualities and gender identites do you believe exist?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
List the ones you think are legit and not Tumblr special snowflakes'.

Re: What sexualities and gender identites do you believe exist?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
straight, gay, bi/pan, a/none

i believe demi et al are real things, but not 'sexualities' and more like descriptors added to the above bases. a demi'sexual' bi person is attracted to anyone they are emotionally connected to, a demi'sexual' gay person is only attracted to same gender people they are connected to and whatnot

i differentiate because i don't think anybody is only demisexual alone by itself and if they are, it's shorthand for demi-bi/pansexual

i forgot gender

male, female, something else, none

and there are as many ways to be 'something else' as there are ways to be a man or a woman

I agree with this. I believe they're real things, but they're supplementary to orientations.

I'm autochorissexual, and I think this seems fair. I generally tell people I'm "a type of asexual," and then if they seem interested I'll get a bit more specific about what kind of ace I am.

Hell if I know. Everytime I think I have a handle on it, I talk to someone or read something that makes me see it in a whole new way, and I'm back to square one.

At this point I think every type of sexuality or gender identity you can possibly imagine probably exists somewhere, the question is just whether the more rare ones (or ones that are really just subsets of others) need their own names. On one hand, it might sound kind of silly/pointless to people who don't identify with that label, but ultimately, if it makes someone feel better about who they are or makes them feel less alone, I don't really see the harm in it.

Straight, homosexual, bi and maybe asexual (not sure about this one)

Male, female.

Straight, gay, bisexual, asexual.

As for gender identities... eh, I think there's more to it than just binary male and female, but not quite in the way tumblrinas think. (That is to say: there are strong arguments to be made for genderqueer/genderfluid being legit things, but "demibois" and bunself people can fuck off.)

Re: What sexualities and gender identites do you believe exist?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
straight, gay, bi... asexual, except no one seems to be doing it right

male, female (trans fall into whatever group they are)

Re: What sexualities and gender identites do you believe exist?

Straight, gay, bi, but I believe that much more people are actually bi and just identify as straight/gay because of different reasons including society influence, familial influence, personal aesthetics and choice.
I also don't believe that asexuality is a sexual preference. But I could be wrong about that one and I'm open for correction. to me it just seems like it's a lack of interest, which is fine as long as you're not being forced or forcing yourself to comply with societal standards of "you have to marry and make kids and like sex". I know a lot of (older) people who never married and always were apparently disinterested in sex and/or having a romantic partner.

About gender identities, I believe that the categories of male/female make sense on a biological level but not on a psychological. I think of Gender as a spectrum. Everything else is roles we play. Saying that as a former lesbian transgender butch who at one point started to let out her inner princess and is now living the cishet dream complete with a sexually dominant male partner, with cupcakes and babies and the whole wholistic kindergarten deal. And dresses and super long hair. But identity-wise, I think I haven't changed at all. I'm still somewhere between what people would consider "male" or "female". I just like myself in the role I'm in right now, just like I liked myself back then in my other role.

Straight, gay, bi, pan, ace (and I further break down pan between people who are interested in both cis and trans people and people who are otherwise straight or gay but are fine sleeping with transgender people.)

Genders:

Male, female, genderfluid, agender

I'd have to see some kind of god damn list to figure out everything the kids are labelling themselves these days.

straight, gay, bi, and ace, i guess, and i'm not even sure if those are just another way of saying sexual idenity fetish. like what's the difference between exclusively liking girls and exclusively liking redheads?

i have no fucking clue about gender. bio sex is one thing, but the rest of it seems like buncha stereotypes.

I believe they all exist.

It's just that it would take a special snowflake to use one or more as a crutch or a means to gain attention. Thankfully, most people tend not to do this.

Re: What sexualities and gender identites do you believe exist?

Gay, straight, bi/pan, and asexual. Within those someone might be more or less sexual (like the person said above, I'd consider someone who called themselves demi but with an attraction to the same gender to be gay, just not as interested sexually as some other gay people), but everyone would fall in there somewhere for me.

Male, female, genderfluid, and agender. (I consider transpeople whatever gender they consider themselves.)

I believe in most of them; it's just a matter of utility. I single out akoiromantic as one where it's easier and clearer to explain your personal situation and feelings than to explain what the term means.

gay, lesbian, bi, (pan i think is real but i also think people have a lot of special snowflake reasons for using it), asexual

woman, man, intersex, trans man/woman

Re: What sexualities and gender identites do you believe exist?

Homosexual, Bisexual, Pansexual, Asexual.

Male, Female, in very rare cases gender-neutral.

I think non-binary and genderfluid are just the current hip ways for people to say "I'm not like the other girls/boys". The only cases where I could get behind someone actually being non-binary is if that person is intersex.

Heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual

Male, female, intersex

Re: What sexualities and gender identites do you believe exist?

Straight, gay, bi. Asexual. Though, I also believe these things may not always be concrete and can change (though not with therapy or anything). Sexuality can be fluid and unpredictable. And as someone above said, while I can buy that some people are "demi" I don't recognize that as a category because it's a dumb thing to categorize, it's basically meaningless.

Genders? Male, female. Physically intersex. I do think "gender neutral" falls under "special snowflake" mainly because I have never seen it described in a way that doesn't fall back on gender stereotypes, and I don't think "male" or "female" really mean anything outside of biology. (I have no issue with trans people and respect anyone absolutely who identifies with the gender they weren't born with, after all, effectively gender does make a huge difference in society and anyone who feels more at home in the category that doesn't match their sex has all my respect). I obviously recognize physically intersex people and if they decide not to "choose", power to them. But I can't bring myself to respect people who ~feel neither/both~ because what the hell does that mean anyway.

All of them, who cares? It's all psychological self-perception anyway.

Cis/trans/intersex

Gay/straight/bi/ace

That's it. Everything else is snowflake foofaraw.

All of them? As long as they aren't being the kind of assbags who start a tumblr witchhunt against anyone who gets their pronouns wrong even by accident, it's none of my business what someone wants to be called, no matter how ridiculous it sounds to me.

I mean hell, I have people tell me a lot homoflexible isn't a thing and I'm just being biphobic by just not calling myself bisexual, so who am I to tell someone their sexual orientation isn't a thing, you feel me?

I don't care. People can say they are whoever they want. I don't tend to judge people's self identification. The only one I really judge is fictionkin because you are saying you are a fictional character, literally the creation of someone else.

I think if someone is trying to honestly describe their experience it is legit.
more concisely I believe in bi, pan, ace, gay, and straight, in that order.
