actors have always pandered to their fans and they probably always will. that's just part of the gig

Yeah. If fans don't like them, they don't get jobs. At least in regards to these blockbuster types of movies.

Personally, I enjoy the fanservice and fun comments. I love when actors/creators can have fun and joke during interviews (and most of them don't sound condescending to me). A lot of them know about fanfic, slash, etc. at this point. I'd rather they have fun with it than make fun of it.

Then again, I don't follow any delusional shippers or go into the tags.

[personal profile] lady_dragoon 2016-05-17 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I learned long ago to just enjoy shit on my own and don't talk to anyone in the fandom I don't know and like already.

Yes. Queerbaiting is bad, but it's a lot better than the actors getting angry at people for shipping, which has sadly happened before with actors being homophobic towards gay fans.

I love when actors and creators reference fandom, it makes me feel a little less weird about being a part of it. It's slowly becoming more mainstream, little by little. And it's fun to hear 'your' thing get mentioned.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-17 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
eh, so what? I'd rather they joke around about it and have fun than be like "no that's never happening." it's not like they can do anything about the films' romances anyway. they're just the actors, not the writers/directors. they get to have some fun and the fans get shipping fodder.

Is he stoned, having an allergic reaction or just very tired in that picture?

That's his default face. Sebastian Stan always looks bored and sleazy tbh.

I don't really enjoy the fandom-directed comments either, OP.

Though in my case, it's not because I think they're queerbaiting (I usually don't), or because it makes certain fans more insufferable (that's not something that bothers me). It's not even because I find their comments condescending (I usually don't).

I just always feel like the actor/creator is trying to acknowledge fandom when they don't really understand fandom. I don't begrudge them for trying. It's all fine. It's just not something I enjoy hearing them talk about.

It always makes me squirmy when actors or whatever bring up fandom but that's mostly because I expect it to be made fun of and honestly I just like to be left alone with my dumb hobby, DON'T LOOK AT ME.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
This is exactly how I feel. I hate when anyone tries to bring up shipping to actors or writers, because there is always that chance they'll laugh at you and call you delusional. Just keep it in your own little corner.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-17 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I get what you're saying however I don't know if it's because I'm not in the Marvel fandom or if it's the way you worded this secret but it seems like you're in too deep.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-17 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
it's obnoxious and turns gay pairings into a joke

haha the idea of these two main male characters together WINK WINK

it'd be cute and funny if they actually had major gay characters in their movies, but since they don't all it does is reinforce the fact that it'll never happen and gayness is at best, "funny"

It's like the possibility of having gay characters is so inherently absurd that referencing it at all automatically qualifies as a punchline.

I don't think it's always queer baiting. I mean, that's when they tease and have no intention of following through. This? These guys have no real control. They're having fun. Especially in this case, Falcon and Bucky have a lot less chemistry than the actors themselves who rib each other. I think that's part of it. I do that with my friends. Joke about dating and stuff.

I think it's an understandable response to the boredom of press tours.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Stucky fans are annoying as shit so I agree with this sentiment for the queer airing and ship wars. However, SebStan has been a pretty adamant BuckyNat fan and has been advocating it for ages so I'm conflicted because that is my marvel OTP and I want it to happen.

I'd rather actors indulge fans in little ways like this than mock the fans for their ships. But yeah, it is kinda annoying when the fans don't realize their just playing and take it as proof of their ship when noting is actually ever gonna happen.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
The real love story is Captain America and Winter Soldier and I'm serious about that. It's not a romance but it's brotherly love.

That said, I am %100 for this idea of Falcon/Winter Soldier buddy comedy. I think the next direction for the MCU is to explore different pairings based on fan reaction and actor chemistry. So, while I don't expect (and don't really want) to see Falcon and Bucky making sweet love beside a fire, I think they'd make a great pairing for a mid-level MCU action flick.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
That is not what queerbaiting means.

Stucky isn't queerbaiting. I'm so over the insinuation that it is.

(Sam and Steve are gayer anyway.)
