The Middle East hardly has a monopoly on regressive hatred.

Shit, a lot of the Republican politicians expressing hopes and prayers shared a platform in the last year with preachers who think that homosexuals should face the death penalty. And it's not as though this country hasn't had problems in living memory with right-wing Christians using violence as a means to an end. One literally bombed the Olympics, although thank God only one person was killed, but not for lack of trying.

Fuck outta here if you're trying to say that this problem only exists for people from the Middle East or for Islam. That is racist and provably, factually wrong.

People are killing other people they hate for all kinds of reasons. Dylan Roof didn't kill those people because of Islam. Elliot Rogers didn't kill those people because of Islam. Adam Lanza didn't kill all those kids because of Islam. And there's no indication that the guy driving to Los Angeles Pride was doing so because of Islam.

There are two problems here. One is homophobia. One is mass shootings. Neither is unique to Islam. And anti-Islamic bigotry and restrictions on immigration will solve neither.

Well, Xians might not be *physically killing* LGBT people, but their rhetoric and ranting and endless string of anti-LGBT legislation (and their approval of hate) has definitely led some people to think it's perfectly okay to harass, bully and/or attack and/or kill LGBT people in the US.

So, to me, they're equally to blame.

Middle Eastern countries are generally much worse in terms of rights for gay people, yes.

Looking at this shooting in that light, and attempting to solve it solely through that angle, is bigoted, factually wrong and actively harmful.

The fact that the Supreme Court finally ruled anti-sodomy laws unconstitutional a little over a decade ago is nothing to crow about. Especially since a number of states still have such laws on the books.
