5. I can really only speak for KH and PW, but people in fandom aren't scary. (Okay, maybe KH is...but not PW) If you just tell people that you're in the fandom and would like some friends, I'm sure they'd be glad to friend you XD And Friending Memes always help too (but I'm not sure how often people do those)

i agree with you here.
about him not being all manlyman, though, too, i think that was a good trait that made him more easy to relate to, especially for Simon. that certain childishness was needed, and i don't think it was a weakness at all. Then, GL was really something else entirely so its impossibly to say. i didn't think anything of it personally, but when you point it out, i see how GL is kind of a parody of all those space opera's and mecha shows. its cool, anyway though.

in general: i don;t know if anyone has thought this too, but i think Gene Starwind from Outlaw Star and Kamina should hang out, because they would seriously get along.

Some of us aren't trying to be speshul elite fans, we just honestly cannot stand seeing an awesome character watered down into a much less interesting Hollywood-friendly version. And uh, there's nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't make us snobs. It just means we give a shit about our favorite characters.

_{the movies usually aren't ever the same as the books, nor as good. also, i think the hollywood version is just that- its for the people who haven't read the comics, or followed it all the way from the start. all the subtleties and things won't be there. i liked the movie, and i have'nt read the comics, but had i, maybe i wouldn't have liked it as much. Most things like that really are to bring it to a larger fan base, and though it is for the original fans as well, unless you have someone whos a huge fan to begin with directing it (i don't know about Constantine, but i think Sin City is an example of where they tried hard to keep it as close to the comic as possible), you probably won't have anything, as an original fan, to write home about, unless you really did like it. its kind of important to keep them separate though. i see your point, as well as the OP's.}

60. ... Dude. Relax. Liking a show that has a lot of fanservice doesn't make you a misogynistic asshole, especially not if you like it despite the fanservice rather than because of it. If, in order to be a feminist or just not sexist in general, you couldn't watch/enjoy anything with fanservice in it, you would basically not be able to watch any anime at all. And there are far, far worse series in terms of misogyny/sexism/fanservice levels than SZS, from what little of SZS I've seen. So really, I don't think this is as big a deal as you're making it.

I do intend to write it someday. I just think it's a pity no one will be able to enjoy it fully because both fandoms are so small, and the probability of overlap is tiny at best.

The central idea of SZS is that it MAKES FUN of harem anime. It exaggerates the tropes of harem anime as to make them ironic. How this slips by people is beyond me.

The thing about SZS, though, is that it doesn't fully commit to that irony. Sure, it makes fun of fanservice, but it also frequently shamelessly indulges in that very same fanservice in ways that don't have an ironic context (see: character pin-up art).
