That is a really unflattering picture of her.

I wouldn't pick up a cat like that, but there are worse ways, like grabbing it around the chest and picking it up like a sack of potatoes. Usually if I have to pick up a cat, I hold the lower half in my arm, and the front paws go on my shoulder.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
TBH, it's less that she held her cat like that in general, than the specific she held her cat like that while walking about in NYC with paps all around. I guess Olivia Benson (that's the cat's name, for real) is super chill, because every cat I know would freak out and never be seen again.

When I was younger, my brother had a kitten, and that kitten LOVED for me to carry him around like a baby--as in, on his back in the crook of my arm, while I rubbed his belly. He loved it, and then he grew to be like 20+ lbs and still wanted it. I loved that silly cat that thought he was a baby.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I daresay that if the cat objected to being held like that, it would tell her. Cats have a way of making their displeasure known.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd put real money on kitty tranqs.

Eight guys in eight years averages out to a year each. I don't see what's so bad about that.

This is what I was gonna say. Eight guys in eight years is a bit of a lot in terms of serious relationships (that shit's exhausting, y'all?!), but my best friend has had 6 bfs in the last 7.5/8 years. It's not that weird.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-26 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
There's nothing bad about it. I wish I had that many boyfriends.

I've met people who seem to think that "dating" means being in a serious relationship and people who think if a serious relationship doesn't last, it's because someone did something bad or someone has a serious moral failing like inability to commit. I think "dating" encompasses serious relationships, but it also encompasses, you know, going on DATES with someone (and if you're famous, being seen going out a few times with the same person means people are gonna blow it out of proportion). I also know relationships can end simply because it doesn't work out and it might take a little while to figure that out. This is verging on that fundamentalist Christian nonsense about courtship and if you develop feelings for someone you don't go on to marry, then you've committed "emotional adultry" on your future spouse, so don't you dare be in a relationship that fails because that means there's something wrong with you.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-26 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know. It sounds emotionally exhausting to me, especially if the relationships don't end amicably. I'd never want that for my life.

I don't give a rat's rootie tootie about her love life, but yeah, that's a dumb way to carry a cat.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Crazy thought here. Maybe she doesn't want a long term relationship?

Ir, maintaining a long-term relationship is not easy to combine with a life as a (touring) singer.

I simply don't get the obsession, and I also have to wonder why the details of her love life are really peoples' business. Unless I guess all of her breakup songs are about actual (famous) exes, but I didn't think they were? Are they?

I think all the fight's been bred out of that cat.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of think less of her now that I know she has one of these cats. When animals are voluntarily bred with crippled/deformed body parts for the ~cuteness factor~ it's animal abuse, plain and simple, and buying those pets supports this.

Dating 1 guy a year? Le gasp!

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Her songs don't have to be a one-to-one parallel with her life, and even if they are, so what? Maybe she's writing and singing what her audience wants (relationship songs), and if so, good for her! I don't see what her dating life has to do with it, honestly.

If that cat's happy, who cares? It looks content. I've had cats who hated having their bellies touched, and ones that practically lived for belly rubs. Cats vary. As long as she loves it and takes care of it, she's a good pet owner in my book.

"She writes songs about her exes that puts the break up on them alone"

I feel like I'm the go-to Swift list person so... Not really? Not any more than any other celeb writing about breakups, certainly. And people get really hung up on the immaturity of her earlier albums, three of which were written before she was even old enough to drink.

Besides the fact that several of her songs are about the good parts of being in love, you have, from oldest to newest:

"Tim McGraw", which is a wistful look at a relationship that just drifted apart,
"Breathe" Which is much of the same, but even sadder,
Ditto "Come In With The Rain", though it's a bit more ambiguous about the break up,
"The Other Side of the Door' is about Taylor acknowledging that she's pushing the guy away but wanting him to fight for her anyway, ergo putting the blame on herself.
"The Way I Loved You" Is about a relationship that self destructed on both sides.
"Back To December" features Swift putting the blame ENTIRELY on herself.
"If This Was A Movie" Implies they are both at fault ("Before the fight, before I locked you out. But I take it all back now!")
"I Want You Back" Also Taylor's fault.
"Last Kiss" Is wistful rather than negative.
"All Too Well" Lays MOST Of the blame on the guy, but also features the line "Maybe we got lost in translation, maybe I asked for too much"
"I Almost Do' is about Taylor resisting the urge to call the Ex up
"I Knew You Were Trouble" blames the guy but also points out that Taylor should have seen it coming given what she knew about him.
"Red" is regretful.
"Sad Beautiful Tragic" is exactly what it says on the tin and definitely at least partially Swift's fault ("You've got your demons and darling they all look like me")
"The Last Time" Is a duet about them both hurting each other.
"Blank Space" is satire about this exact thought about Swift.
"Style" is mutually destructive.
"I Wish You Would" is about both parties (Featuring both "I wish you knew that I miss you too much to be mad anymore" and "I wish you would come back, wish I'd never hung up the phone like I did")
And "Wildest Dreams" is about her knowing damn well how this is going to end and doing it anyway because it's worth it.

There's more and more positive songs in her later albums, too, compared to laying the blame solely on the ex. She also eventually got a bit more subtle about who her songs were about as she got older.

Also, sometimes, just maybe, the guy really did do a shitty thing so she wrote a song about it?

(Bonus thought: I post so much about Swift that I now wonder how many people see these things and go 'I wonder when Nonny will show up?')

Dating a person a year isn't the end of the world OP. Quit being a prude and get over yourself.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-26 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
In all seriousness, please don't hold your cat like that. For starters, all of the cat's weight is resting on her chest and belly and she's got no way to redistribute her weight more comfortably. Also, she's being held forward, out in the open, with her legs dangling. Most cats don't like to be dangled, especially outside of their territory, since it leaves them vulnerable. Most importantly, if Olivia Benson (or the cat of your choice) got tired of being held like a clutch purse, she could twist herself free from that one-handed grip easily. OB's not wearing a harness and doesn't appear to be wearing a collar, and they're on a city street. If she gets loose, she'll get lost or worse -- attacked by another animal or hit by a car. If you have to carry a cat outside of a carrier, make sure the cat's wearing a collar and a harness, and make sure you're properly supporting that cat's weight and keeping the cat comfortable and secure.

Can I just say that the girl is all of 26 years old? If we're talking eight years, that's going back to all of age eighteen. Isn't dating and exploring what she's supposed to be doing? How is that not a perfectly normal, healthy thing to do, especially in our current (US) culture of putting off marriage/partnerships to later? In any other career path, she's just out of grad school and getting started with life.

Well I can't speak for her relationship record (though I do agree eight guys in eight years does not sound like a bad record), but I have heard that she loves her cats and I am inclined to trust that she is acting according to what she knows her cat will accept.

Still not seeing why she deserves criticsm, to be honest. If she doesn't want a LTR, that's her business.

I assume her cats are used to being carted around. Mine actually likes being picked up in awkward ways.
