I know what you mean (in general, not wanting very annoying fans to get what they want) but really, any pairing has them, surely? Sometimes a fandom can become toxic (in general, or for a person) but there are still plenty of great fans who just aren't involved there, but still like it. Sometimes it feels like the nasty folks are ruining fandom for everyone, but lots of people just walk away and enjoy it their own way. What I mean is, it would SEEM like nasty fans got their way (to you) but there would probably be tons of great fans who got their wish, and others who discovered something new, etc. Just...maybe it's not the pairing? Just some fans who are really annoying you.

I think this secret is proof that you're too caught up in fandom. Look, I'm not some huge Klance shipper, but you need to look at this irrespective of overzealous shipping bullshit on tumblr. For instance, this reboot is a kids show. Like, it's on the children's section of Netflix and having kids exposed to gay relationships/gay/bi characters is really beneficial to the LGBT community because it helps us be more accepted in the long run and be less "othered."

If you would honestly rather not have a canon gay pairing in a tv show just because some people in fandom are annoying, you need to take a good long look at yourself, imo.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
sure. but relatively speaking OP will never be able to feel or pinpoint the benefit of canon Klance in particular, while they'll see the smugness of some assholes in their community.

this human scale is why ppl don't recycle enough or don't boycott Amazon. except that OP has even less influence, aka no influence, on the show than on the environment or ethical employment.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I know. Why do you think I keep it a secret?

Any ship that becomes canon is going to get horrible shippers anyway. Look at Korra again. Korrasami had horrible shippers. So did Makorra. If you don't want shippers to ruin a ship, you might as well root for no ships at all.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, that's the ship that will absolutely never happen. Thanks god because it's awful.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
is there literally any chance at all that this show will have a m/m ship or is that solely wishful thinking from the fandom?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Q: So you worked on Legend of Korra and that show really broke ground with having Korra and Asami get together at the end of the series. Will we be seeing any LGBT content in Voltron?

I think I’ll just let that play out as we go. No comment on that question.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, but Korrasami had awful, abusive shippers all over the place. How can you excuse that and vilify Klance shippers when it's exactly the same?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Newsflash: Every ship has bad shippers.

I get what you're saying, if I was super into something and didn't ship the major ship, I wouldn't want it to be canon either.

I do not think that's a good reason to not want a ship to become canon.

I'm team Hance 5ever. I know it's unlikely, but I'm hoping if any m/m ship becomes canon, it's that one, so I get you OP.

Same here, OP. However for me instead of being persuaded by the fandom since I've never seen nor been a part of it, I just don't like klance romantically. It comes across as kind of flat to me potential-relationship-wise, although they are funny in the series as the type to wind each other up which is what I like them for.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed, the Klance fandom would be even more unbearable if it ever became canon. It's also just a really bland, awful ship.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
If you're a Sheith shipper, I'm sure it can get hard to remember that not all Klance shippers are the type to fling pedophile accusations at people. It's just that since they're the only ones posting in your tag, those are the only ones you see.

I hope we don't get any canon pairings at all, because that's just how I am, but if we do get one, I'm hoping for Hance.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
#notALLKlanceshippers

The bulk of shitty people plaguing the fandom are Klance shippers tho

I'm hoping for a no-pairing resolution because regardless of who ends up with who, it would generate wank either way. Put off those wank flames with some chill water plz.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I hope Lance gets an alien girlfriend. The fandom reaction would be amazing to watch from a distance.

My dream scenario for this show would be if they save Pidge's family fairly early on and Hunk falls for Pidge's brother. Team Hatt all the way!

I'm torn. On one hand, Klance shippers are easily the most annoying portion of the fanbase, filled with angry bullies, so seeing them feel validated in their actions would be terrible. On the other hand, canon Klance would still be m/m representation and if the writers developed their relationship well enough that it feels healthy and earned, that would definitely be a reason to celebrate. Plus it's not like all Klance shippers are terrible - I have plenty reasonable and nice ones on my dash, and for every annoying anti, there are probably ten Klance shippers who don't call anyone a pedophile for shipping a rival ship.

That being said, the way things are now, I really can't see the writers going that route. I've actually talked to people who started watching the show because they saw all the Klance fanart and expected Klance to be an actual thing in the show, or at least heavily teased at, and were severly disappointed when what they got was your typical shounen rivalry and constant arguing. With the way they're writing Lance as the resident ladies' men, I don't think they're gonna be throwing a bisexuality storyline at us either. It's much more likely he's going to get something similar to Sokka's storyline with Suki in A:TLA, where he matures a little bit and learns to treat women with respect. Not saying canon bisexual Lance is impossible but I just don't think that's what they're going for (and I personally don't see his interest in girls as faking it because he's actually in the closet). The only way I could see Klance happening is if the writers decide to pander to the fans and make the most popular pairing canon in order to appeal to the biggest and loudest group.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, after seeing all the slash art and proclamations that "Keith and Lance are so gay!" "look at the way Keith looks at Shiro, so gay!", I was downright disappointed with how the show is actually completely devoid of any slashy implications. There is nothing there for any potential ship, not even queerbaiting. The fandom has quite possibly the worst case of "they stood next to each other, they're so in love! XDDDD" yaoi goggle delusion that I've ever seen.
