When buying a first house, would it be OK to put together a wish-list of housewarming gifts, or would it be considered rude? (The hypothetical list would consist mainly in small cooking appliances and crockery, things that could be used for the housewarming party.)

Fancy events

For work, I have to go to my first "fancy" event. It's a conference for our non-profit field, but includes things like a fancy black tie-type banquet dinner, and an awards reception.

I am excited, but I also haven't worn heels since like high school prom. Fuck heels. But I'll definitely be expected to wear at least a cocktail dress for the evening events, and probably dress + suit jacket during the day. I don't think I've ever been this nervous about planning my outfits. (the most formal, business-appropriate and sufficiently lovely for an evening event dress I have doesn't look good with a suit jacket, due to a fancy neck line! the red dress looks ace on me but possibly to bright and sexy-if-you-squint for this kind of event! the other dress is formal and work-appropriate but not that pretty! AHHH)

Tell me about your formal events. Do you like dressing up? Have you been to many, not counting proms and such?

Music in movies that remind you of other movies

I watched "Doctor Strange" today, I enjoyed it. But there were certain times in the movie I heard a sequence of music that reminded me of "Star Trek: Beyond". Slightly disconcerting. I'm not sure if the same person composed the music for both films.

Stupid Mistakes!

Today I decided to make try and make sub rolls. So I got all the ingredients together and started working the dough in my mixer. It refused to go together and was horribly dry. After review, I realized I had converted cups to FLUID ounces instead of DRY ounces. So I used twice as much flour as I needed. I tried to compensate with more water, salt, etc but I doubt they will turn out that good. Waiting for their second proofing so I can cook them. At least I got to experiment with different shaping techniques.

My father's house is going to be auctioned off because he didn't pay taxes on it. It is like $200 and he has three (deadbeat but alive) adults in his house. And they can't scrounge up $200 between them.

So I'll probably end up paying it because I am a responsible adult who saves money, has a job, and doesn't blow it all on pot.

Please let Trump lose the election. My entire life is a giant fucking panic attack right now and I don't know how to fix it or how much of it is fixable. My grades, my tiny family, my umpteenth try for promotion, my shaky sanity, my future, all seem like they're circling the drain at the moment. But I'm gonna do my tiny part to make sure he loses and let everyone else with a functioning conscience or brain help vote him out. If nothing else about this fucking year is salvageable, let His Douchiness crawl back under a reality-tv rock and stay there.

Hey guys! I am a terrible book club organizer because I made one post about December recs and then got distracted with Life and didn't post for a few days. I will therefore extend recs through Wednesday and post the poll Thursday.

Not exactly argued but how to write the main vampire's name in Hellsing anime. Alucard (do you see what they did there?) obviously, but some weeaboos considered Arkaardo or something because that's how it's pronounced in japanese??
