What popular thing has absolutely no appeal to you?

What non-popular thing do you love?

People have been telling me to get a Facebook since about 2007 but no one has ever been able to give me a good enough reason for me to actually do it.

My job threatened to cancel my contract if I didn't get one and tell them what it was. I got one. I got one and gave them the screen name. Then they started complaining I never put anything on it. So every few days now I reach into my ass and pull some crap out of it and that seems to satisfy them. Never wrote a single true word there, not even by accident. The things I do for money...are also things I don't write about.

It's so basic!

You can read fake news, get mutually annoyed with right-wing cousins, and, um....

The "Groups" feature is a good way to coordinate large groups of people I've found. Though I imagine that could easily be done on another site too. It's just that more people are likely to have a Facebook account.

But other than that I usually ignore it.

Non-popular thing I like? I love folk music, honestly I do.

Popular thing I hate? Football (soccer for Americans) it is the national religion here, literally, more people go to a football match on a weekend than go to church. I just find it tedious to watch and the "fans" tedious to be around. Drunken louts all of them. I'll add being drunk to the list of things I hate, and also sex. I find the idea of sex deeply unpleasant and sticky and messy and I get distracted by thinking about all the cleaning up that will have to be done afterwards. Ugh, more trouble than it is worth.

I don't like steak! Never have. Everyone I know loves it though.

Not sure if it is unpopular but I love asparagus. I can eat it like noodles.

Vampires.

I've never gotten the appeal or interest tbh, I mostly find them annoying and only vaguely like them when they're bad-guys to be shanked. I also really don't get the sex-appeal aspect to them either because they're walking corpses, just not decomposing ones like zombies, but they're still dead and nope, can't do that.

Doctor Who. I tried watching a couple episodes, and it was just...meh to me. Maybe I watched a couple not so great episodes (I don't even remember which ones they were) but it just didn't click with me.

Pumpkin spice lattes. Or lattes in general. Or coffee.

(I love tea. My present to myself for Christmas was this -- tonight I had the oolong tea it came with, and it was so delicious!)

I don't understand the majority of things people care about when they move to the suburbs, sports, scrap booking, religion, caring that there are cell towers in the neighborhood, being overly into lawn care etc.

Can't think of a non popular thing right now.

Non popular thing I love: Finnish Folk Metal.

Popular things that have absolutely no appeal to me: Overwatch, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Supernatural (this one SHOULD have appealed to me but it didn't), Dragon Age (Again, should have appealed to me but it just...didn't.)

Thing I don't care about: TV.

You know it's kind-of amusing that at one point I didn't really understand people who said they don't watch TV much, but over time I have grown less interested in it myself. A part of that is because I either just totally miss the popular shows, the popular shows are really not my genre (for instance, I don't do comedy), or I simply am too distracted by something completely different, like a game, or whichever fanfic rabbithole I have fallen down.

Even a long-time favourite like Doctor Who (which I was a fan of since the last few years of Old Who, and bought some of the Virgin novels during the 90s), fails to grab me these days.

I'm less sure about non-popular. I could probably say I'm still deeply in love with LotR, even though the crest of it's resurgence due to The Hobbit has now passed.

Every single popular fandom property. Marvel? DC? Star Wars? Dr. Who? I have no interest in any of them. The best I can manage is lukewarm interest in Harry Potter.

Coffee. Especially the Starbucks and the special edition pumpkin spice artificial scarcity whatever the fuck...I can't believe people pay money for it.

I don't like hockey (which is pretty much sacrilege if you're Canadian)--I'll watch if the Cdn teams are playing for like Olympic gold, but yeah, beyond that, idgaf. tbh, most sports aren't my thing--I don't mind watching baseball or horsey stuff, but that's it.

Drinking to get plastered every weekend, or even to getting buzzed on a weeknight...well drinking in general. I don't enjoy the taste of most alcohol (vodka coolers are the only exception. Doing pot. I don't care if other people do and I'm all for it being legalized, but it's not something I enjoy.

I also don't like coffee or tea.

Harry Potter. I read the first book and it didn't make me want to read the second--but I'm not a big fantasy fan (GOT is about the only fantasy books I've read and enjoyed).

Rom-coms/chick flicks/romantic movies. I can't stand most of them while my sister loves them. Give me a good horror movie or action movie any day of the week.

Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch--don't mind them in movies, but I've had to blacklist them on tumblr (a friend of mine loves TH and I don't want to unfollow her.....)

Can't think of anything that I like that's particularly unpopular--maybe Top Gear/Grand Tour--but I don't like Clarkson at all, just Hammond & May....

I'm such a picky eater.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-24 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care for tomatoes and especially tomato sauce, so a lot of pizza is out (weirdly, ketchup is okay - it doesn't taste like tomatoes to me, and salsa is sometimes okay - if it's heavy on the garlic and onion, no cilantro, and the tomatoes seem to be there to add bulk). I also don't care for oregano, red chili powder, paprika, and red pepper, so generally, lasagna, spaghetti sauce, enchiladas, and tacos are all out for me.

I don't like barbeque sauce or anything barbeque-flavored.

I, for the most part, can't stand tea, the only exception was Sleepytime and I think that was mostly because I couldn't really taste tea, just mint.

I don't drink any type of alcohol and don't really like the smell of it (beer, wine, hard liquor).

Though eggs are fine in cake and cookies and bread and such, I am not a fan of any dish where they are prominent.

I don't like strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, boysenberries, etc. While I enjoy a fair amount of fruit, I can usually only go for it raw, cooking changes the flavor and the texture in ways I don't like.

I don't like pumpkin pie and I would probably go for pumpkin spice whatever since, as far as I know, it's just the spices, which I like, and has no actual pumpkin in it, but if they put it in the name, the association and my distaste for pumpkin keeps me from trying it.

I really like black licorice, I do like candy corn, and I like Necco wafers. Broccoli (cooked) is one of my favorite vegetables.

I have zero motivation to watch Yuri on Ice. Everyone is talking about it and after the first few episodes, I lost interest. It seems pretty contrived but at least it's pretty?

Stranger Things.

I watched some and was very meh. But then again I am also both very meh on horror-ish things and spunky child actors so it's probably not surprising.

Babies. I was waiting in the dentist office and some lady brought in her infant and the whole office Lost. Its. Shit. Dental assistants were running out of the back to coo and squeal and ask to hold the baby and the other people in the waiting room were all squeaking and making 'OMG SO CUUUUTE' noises and I was just going "... it's tiny and weird and might scream." .... I think that's probably a good sign I've made the right choice not to have kids.

Popular, no appeal: Clubbing / big parties

Non-popular thing I love: The world of fandom seems to be pretty obscure from where I stand (I travel/work internationally a lot), so I'll go with that!
