15. At Conjunction 2008, someone asked a question about Mary Sues, and I suddenly realised that they have a Literary equivalent in the roman a clef. Authors have been inserting themselves (missus) for centuries. It's not exactly the same, because they tend to insert themselves into their own stories rather than a pre-existing text; and let's face it, there aren't a lot of Kerouacs or Solzhenitsyns in fandom. But when I thought of that, the whole concept of a Sue kind of disintegrated for me. And that's beside the fact that the term is flung around in fandom pretty much randomly.

59. The only time Mr Barrowman's acting has given me pause was way back in They Keep Killing... when he couldn't get the Glove to work. I lol'd.

58. Dude, I was just talking about this. Literally, just. And honestly? I think the show would be better with him back. Season two was horribly disappointing, and Kring admitted this. I want them to bring the show back around, bring the focus back to the originals (and bring Claude back, dammit!) The Nathan/Peter dynamic - without the Petrellicest, even - was really powerful, and one of the things that kept me watching. Haha, but it doesn't matter what I want, does it? Alas. :p

59. Hum. Agreed on all points, except that while his acting is embarrassing, I think he still has a lot of charisma, and that shines through regardless. Not that I don't adore the other characters, but if Jack was not John, I would not feel compelled to watch the show. Besides, I don't think Torchwood takes itself too seriously, which is good when you're a low-budget endeavor, yeah?

15.) Oh, there are canon Mary Sues, IMO. In the end, those type of characters stand out; like Isabella Swan from Twilight and Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: TNG. They chew scenery. Mary Sues aren't just for Fan-Fiction. o_O

I wasn't denying that they exist. They just don't exist nearly as much as some people would like fandom to believe. Having superpowers =/= Sue. Having a tragic childhood =/= Sue. Having super-special-awesome superpowers STILL =/= Sue. Making characters behave in a way that makes no contextual sense, or being a blatant and perfectly portrayed mouthpiece for the author = SUE.

36. Aw. I totally know what you mean, I'm in a few of those. Some so damned unpopular that people don't post even thoughts or conversation because they're like 'eh, no one wants to hear it'. ARGH. Fanfiction or any sort of fanworks is like pulling teeth.

if you ever did want to try and drum up a slightly bigger fandom, like, converting people to whatever it is, the comm http://community.livejournal.com/heard_of_it/ might be able to help you. You can post asking if anyone has heard of it, or you can try a 'conversion post', etc. Good luck, and trust me, you're not totally alone.

32. I cheered when L died. I replayed that scene about a dozen times. it was glorious. The only thing that was bad about it was how lazy it made Light get. L's replacements are both shit, though.

Y'know, if like, L hadn't died and Mello and Near had come forth as his sidekicks in the case or something, I bet all the pissed L fans wouldn't hate them so much. (The Light fans, however...ahaha I can picture it now...) Granted, I didn't fully appreciate neither Near nor Mello till after I'd finished the series, but I was reading so quickly at that point I don't even remember a lot of what happened. Rereading it now, I think "damn, they're cool." I mean, I like Mello much, much more than Near, but I still think Near is neat. I don't understand character hate based on another character. :/
