15- Mary Sue=/=Self insert. There can be good self inserts, and not self insert Mary Sues. Mary Sue means a bad type of OC that usually over laps with self inserts.

43- Ditto. At least on LJ.

51- Not that I haven't been impressed with people who actually did deep and get decent asian PB's, but since most are like "LOL J rrock idol I adore!" yeah....Sorry, your J rock person looks nada like Naruto/Sailor Moon/Gaara/Ed Elric (Not that I haven't seem some that do, but most...don't)

I suppose, but I still think that self-insertion (or, at the very least, wish fulfillment) has a big role to play in making the Sue. What really pisses me off is this new wave of canon!Sue bullshit that can basically be applied to any vaguely interesting fictional character. There are canon!Sues: Wesley Crusher and Richard Rahl come to mind. They're basically flawless and are easily identifiable as either self-inserts or mouthpieces for the author. That's what I was trying to say, even if I worded it poorly.

That being said, a self-insert, or wish-fulfilling OC, does not necessarily become a Mary Sue.
