I've never watched Utena, but I agree with you that feminist theory is important and I think it's really interesting too. I've never openly applying it to fandom, but when I see someone who does and they know what they're talking about and bring up interesting points to think about, it's really something I admire.

And there will always be people who ignore or try to discredit you, no matter what you do.

15) My understanding of a Sue is a character who hogs the story spotlight while not doing or saying anything worthy of attention or who wrecks the suspension of disbelief in order to grab more attention than the plot warrants. Neither of those require being self-inserts.

26) I've tried really hard to understand why OTPers get so upset when canon doesn't back up their ship. That's one of main reasons fanfic exists -- to explore what canon can't or won't give us. For me, if one of my ships becomes canon, it makes the stories I imagine about the the pairing become redundant. I'm glad when they don't become canon (not that they are likely to, I usually pick ships that violate the spirit of the show.)

40) Sooo... you are kinda in a hard place. The taggers think you are a dweeb because you are nerdy, and the nerds think you are a criminal because you wreck other people's property and they have to waste tax dollars on cleaning up after you. Yeah, that's pretty failtastic.

I recently wrote a paper on this for my seminar. While I explored how it manifests itself (shippers might attempt to bribe the canon creator with cookies or other financial investments, which I linked medieval patronage), I couldn't explain in a manner satisfying to myself why this occurs. I mean, I read fan fiction, and there are pairings which I prefer, but I really don't care if then end up in canon or not.

I did suggest that perhaps the reason why OTPers get upset when their canon does not represent their ship is because the area where fans do have control over their favorite works, fandom, is so entrenched in romance as it is. This is actually a historical happenstance, where unofficial sequels are written providing romantic endings to unromantic stories. So whether their preferred pairing is canon validates their identities as shippers. Or something.

It's odd.

49. It's weird to a lot of people. but it doesn't follow from any logical sequence of social interactions. I'm glad that you're willing to look to the people instead of judging them based on a handful of stereotypes, but you can't expect everyone to do the same.

51. I've begun to think that the modular nature of the Japanese language and the collectivist culture that the Japanese subscribe to makes it all the easier for someone to make a Japanese character. It doesn't make a fleshed out character, of course, but it's a possible reason why someone would want to make such a character.

52. It seems to me that we're all obsessed with sex, but some of us channel it into other pursuits. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that fandom has rechanneled your interest in sex?

She steals, yet she goes on forever about other people stealing her scans etc.
Advertising for her FLs in her own journal is fine and all but I wish it weren't the only thing she does nowadays.
My lack of RAM, my browser's memory usage, and her layouts make a deadly combination. They are almost blinding to look at, especially when she uses the brightest red on equally bright green in her FO post. If something is hard to read or reading it harms my eyes, I won't read it.
Her grammar will improve with time and effort but I agree that nobody has any excuse to not spellcheck constantly.

To the one this "secret" was about, if you're reading: I hope you won't take offense but instead, think about why the OP, I, and possibly other commentators are saying what we're saying. But you are also free to hate us and rant about us if you believe that's the best course of action you should take.

I agree so much. On one fanlisting, she even has auto-play music. Mind, you can turn it off, but it's still a big no-no. And really, how many fanlistings to one series does she need in the first place?

Her grammar... won't improve, I'm afraid. Though she expresses interest in entering the fandom or being 'recognized' for providing (downloaded) scans, fanart she found places and so forth, she absolutely does nothing to improve her English. She simply keeps apologizing, using the Italian schtick over and over again... when, you know, lots of people have a different first language than English, and they manage just fine. For community posts, I can see why you'd forfeit using a spellcheck, but for fanlistings which people she looks up to will be looking at? Huh.

03. Meh, I think he had a good reason to be like that and it sucks to be in his shoes. Plus, it got Miharu to stop acting like an indifferent little shit and stop pretending that he doesn't care for other's actions. But I'll take broken! Yoite than emotionless! Yoite over any day. I kind like a character who is getting increasingly insane each passing day. And I wonder if Miharu could save him.
