Artemis Fowl is way better then Harry Potter, and no one seems to realize this. Eoin is a great writer and I've read all of his books I can get my hands on.

03. HOLY SHIT A RADIATA STORIES SECRET! I remember that game...wasting so many hours of my life trying to get every character on the non-human and human side. It did have some good music, like that mage section of Radiata (Blue Town of Water and Wisdom? Something like that? It's been years since I've played). I wasn't aware that there were other fans out there (are there even any forums or LJ communities for it?). And I want a sequal too, but I'm not sure how that would be possible if Jack is that main character, given the 2 different endings. Maybe a sequel years in the future where Jack isn't the main character? Or maybe a prequel starring Elwen!

It's loads of work, yeah, but a part of it is definitely talent. Some things just come easier to some people, and some people have to work really hard to get there. I don't see why art is any different. Still, it's a 50-50 thing at most.

28: Whee for pre-internet fandoms! I can't remember ever slashing anything, but I used to write horrible Mary Sue fics about me and my favourite hockey players. Some of them were downright epic. Too bad I can't find them anymore, it'd be hilarious to go back and read them -- 14-15 years later.

Ah, I amused myself in interesting ways in my early teens.

68: I love Dan Savage as well -- I read his column and listen to his podcast every week. I don't know if I feel as strongly about it as you do, but I agree that he sometimes does marginalize lifestyles that a lot of us would associate with "normal." I think what he's getting at, however, is that no relationship is normal. People do have a piece on the side sometimes, and monogamy can be a lot more difficult than people would like to admit. I think what he is advocating is for honesty. You have a kink? Share it with your partner. You want to have sex with other people? Share it with your partner. I don't think he's trying to say that "normal" is bad, just that "normal" doesn't really exist.

Human beings have, for centuries, spoken of monogamy as though it is a given. The thing that he's trying to get at is that while it may be possible, it's very difficult over the long term and, perhaps, not entirely realistic.

Ahhhh, I'm guilty this with one of my characters (only some of the icons I have for him are from four years previous to when I picked him up, with a different costume and his hair out instead of braided). Some of the expressions work really really well, though, and to me I think the expression matters more than the time-period. Particularly when I have what time-period he's from right in his profile, and I have all of his background from the manga linked in the profile to a separate post. It shouldn't be THAT hard to figure out.
