107. Lambo needs to be loved tenderly, but if you ever made a fic of it, OP, I would read it in a heartbeat.

108. FFX ending is one of the most touching ones in the franchise. I never understood the hate for Tidus. Yeah, he was a bit flighty and energetic but I loved the guy, more than Squall, Cloud, Zidane and definately Vaan (Ugh, Vaan....). It was the only FF ending I cried on.

109. REPEAT

116. I like the idea of this couple, but their development was pretty slipshod. I hated how breakneck speed their development was just to make a comparsion to Harry's life if you know who and what I'm talking about. I was never a Sirius/Remus fan back when I used to read fanfics of this series, but as a former Draco/Harry shipper, you'll find a lot of it in D/H fics and I only tolerated it.

118. I must be perverted because I saw the crotch. Imagine my surprised it was really one, not a lamp. LMAO. Also $5 the OP is talking about Kingdom Hearts. Stop whining and ignore, seriously, it's not that hard, honestly.

127. ಠ_ಠ

129. One country? ONE? Way to forget that there are still countries that you can go to jail or get the detah penalty for BEING gay. Sexuality always been a big deal with humanity, I'm not surprised that fandom reflect this.

140. I really want to see the Dhoom movies but the main guy is fitting for the Great Carmen Sandiego, I'm so there because I basically worshipped Carmen Sandiego and the fucking awesome TV gameshows of it.

145. Yes, Yukino was fucking awesome in every way. I love the series didn't make her into a Mary Sue, she was still opportunistic, selfish and vain but she had a lot of good quality: never gives up, ambitious and motivated and somewhat kind. That's why she's in my fave female character overall.

150. I understand you completely, OP. I'm from a family who thinks the worst of homosexuality and pretty much homophobic and they must never find out my love of slash and femslash.

154. Because the cock is a powerful drug. Honestly like 118, stop being a baby that people slash series. My god, if you're going to be like that, never read/watch another series again unless it's all girls.

159. Is this a repeat.

172. No one is too old from fandom.

N!S 2. A baby seal.

129

[identity profile] karma-kalisutah.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I think OP is saying that there's [at least] one country (the one OP grew up in) where it ISN'T treated as a big deal, and also that it isn't treated as a big deal in fandom, and thus OP was shocked to find out how many places there are where it IS treated as a big deal. I also think OP probably isn't a native English speaker.

144

[identity profile] velvetcure.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
write it! i've just gotten into the fandom but everyone has been really nice so far. and it already exists so...ship away.

[identity profile] laytonmeme.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
108. Tidus is fandom's buttmonkey. But I actually loved him to death. Sorry fandom ;-;

112. I would say IRL shipping was creepy if I didn't sort of kind of do it a little bit.
But still this secret quicks me so sorry ;-;

116. I ship both. Remus is delicious enough to share around a little, surely?

118. OH MAN AWESOME

129. Um...okay? It's as big a deal as you make it. It's not the END OF THE WORLD if a sexuality issue arises.
I think fandom manages to simultaneously ignore sexuality and overemphasise it....

130. Not alone.

135. I agree actually. Jacob is one of about three characters in the books I can stand. However, I think Bella is far too self-absorbed and retarded to EVER appreciate him for who he is, and quite frankly she doesn't deserve him anyway. She's a stupid bitch. I hate Bella.
Twilight's srs bizness

142. Studying Psychology for a couple years did more than make me hate the subject deeply; I actually PHYSICALLY TWITCH (you know that tic thing anime characters get, with the eyes? Yeah. That.) when I see people say things like that.
It RUINS LIVES AND RELATIONSHIPS. It makes things REALLY DIFFICULT. It's an ILLNESS.
Accepting it is one thing, fetishizing it is another and eurgh ;-;

143. That's a guy...?
I'm totally with you on the 9 year older crush thing. :'( SAD DESU

148. YES

149. tl fucking dr

157. WILL YOU PEOPLE GET THE FUCK OVER TO TWILIGHT SECRETS ALREADY

160. I'd tread lightly when comparing furries to homosexuals and ethnic minorities. Far as I know you've never had countrywide hate campaigns led against you/been arrested for your sexual kink, not to mention all the other millions of cans of worms... D:;

166. Well, because of your secret, I'm gonna check it out and read it :3
So maybe...?

168. I KNOW. I DID TOO ;0;

OP of 160

(Anonymous) 2008-05-29 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I am gay and have been physically, emotionally, and verbally abused for it many times in the past.

I understand that my wording was...probably not the best, but I was annoyed when I made it and I was trying to convey a comparison that, while not entirely accurate, was at least recognizable and might make someone stop and think.

127.) Oh you silly shoutakon.

131.) I honestly thought they were going to have sex. Because it's Jack.

172.) I'm pretty sure the mass majority of illustrators of manga and comic books aren't in their late teens/early twenties.

160

(Anonymous) 2008-05-28 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, because countless furries have suffered tremendous loss of life and were kept as slaves. :O I can see how it's somewhat comparable to homophobia since that still runs pretty rampant in our culture, but it's not quite the same. Furries are people who dress in animal costumes to get their rocks off. Something is clearly wrong with them for them to decide on that. Gay people, meanwhile, are just born with their sexuality. That's natural, not so much decided.

Re: 160

(Anonymous) 2008-05-28 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Am I actually the only one who doesn't care if homosexuality is a predisposition or a choice? It shouldn't matter. Defending it by saying gay people can't help it, or any phrasing conveying the same idea, makes it seem like an affliction rather than a perfectly acceptable lifestyle.

Yeah, the OP's comparisons were on a different scale. But people's kinks are people's kinks and their own business; if they're not hurting anyone, leave them alone.

116 ITA. I was a big Sirius/Remus shipper (though not really in canon, in fanon) and I feel Sirius would have wanted Remus to be happy and not be alone. I just thought, as you said, it was really badly done, and then their deaths were sort of pointless (and also blink-and-you-miss-it). The entire thing seemed to only exist so that Harry could in his turn be godfather to an orphan.

128 Creepy manip is creepy, and not because Heath has died.

129 I wish I knew which country, so I'd know what you actually mean by this secret.

130 You're so not the only one. People tend to post about what they like or at least care about, and not what they hate and so are ignoring. I have no time for that show in any way.

138 Well, as you've seen, that movie has TONS of fans. I adore it for the Val AND the RDJ. RDJ has been sexy for a super long time. He's just able to show that more consistently now that he's not high all the time. It wasn't a good look on him.

148 This is why I hate lolcats, omgwtfbbq etc, !!eleventy-one, talking like Gollum, "nom nom nom" and all the other fucking catch phrases. They seem to be ways for people who are not funny to think they are making a joke, when really they're just driving some mildly amusing idea into the fucking ground.

154 This reminds me of 130. I mean, how weak minded are you if the way other people like a canon makes you dislike it? There are always plenty of non-porn mad fans of a canon.

169 There are SO MANY badfics that I loved that were never continued and I was SO ANGRY but yeah, how can you ask for more while also saying "it sucks but I want to know what happened after Harry had that ritual bath with Molly!"

174 I did that meme, and nearly all the men on mine were late 30s or older. I like men who look like men, and I have since I was a teen. I've never liked the hairless, lithe thing, whether it's on an actor, an anime character or a rock star.

175: fandom please?

My problem with that pairing is that it was not only rushed, but that Tonks was in love with someone who didn't seem capable of giving her everything she wanted in a relationship. Remus was portayed as such an emotional basket case in the seventh book and Tonks was too head over heels to see how one-sided her feelings were. It irritated me so much that he would treat her like that and she just let be. If they had stayed together, it would have ended in a divorce somewhere down the line.

For the record, I like Sirius/Remus AND Tonks/Remus, but I hated how JKR wrote it. She spoiled something that had the potential to be very sweet.

[identity profile] ame-lj.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Uhhh, no one cares what you did during your prom or grad-night, sorry to say.

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
116: Hear hear. The attitude that Remus was better off dead than with someone who wasn't Sirius is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard in fandom. Seriously people, grow up. (It's nice to hear a Remus/Tonks fan admit that the relationship was badly written as well - sensible fandom views for the win!)

118: 0_0

121: I feel your pain. :/ (I stopped watching when the same character got mutilated by helicopter twice btw.)

153: That movie is great! The colours and costumes are beautiful.

174: [livejournal.com profile] vintage_meat. Horrid name, nice community. Seriously, most people I know on the internet prefer the older gentleman. (Also: Kevin Kline ftw!)

174

[identity profile] frek.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I <3 Kevin Kline so much.

French Kiss is probably my favorite romantic comedy.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
174. If you can watch Pirates of Penzance or A Fish Called Wanda without getting at least a little bit of a crush on Kevin Kline, you need new estrogen.
Honestly, though, why be ashamed? I dunno, I grew out of my pretty-boy phase years ago, and am unashamed to admit that somewhere high on my current list of sexy celebs is Richard Belzer. Maybe more Richard Belzer of ten years ago, but still.

176. I am stoked hardcore. I do like Mark Brooks (at least, much better than a lot of the artists who've been on the books recently), but I'm overjoyed that Kirkman's gone and half his crap's been retconned. I never thought I'd be so pleased to see retcon in Ultimate.
Alpha Flight rocks, but honestly, all I want is more Toad being ridiculously dorky!cool.

Aurora sure looks like she could be Jean Paul's sister. And he is still from Canada, right?

173, 174

[identity profile] entwashian.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
173 -- This gold star is for you, OP. And what about the pirate outfit from the other FCR commercial?

174-- I recently did a post on my LJ of only my top 5 age-inappropriate crushes (men over 50). It was well-received. Don't hide! Also, Tom Selleck is one of the few men that my grandmother, my mother, my sisters, and I can all agree on. Now that's mojo!

174

[identity profile] shaxophile.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I've had a crush on him for a stupidly long time. An innappropriately stupid amount of time. As in, I used to rewatch Road to El Dorado when I was 11 because it had him and Kenneth Branagh. Rrrrrow.

This is one of the more offensive comparisons to slither about the internet. Hardly an original comparison: equating furry bashing with racism and homophobia? Next we'll have some comparisons to Hitler and blah blah blah blahhhh *starts foaming at the mouth*

One day, furries, perhaps YOU SHALL OVERCOME too, and centuries of institutional segregation and discrimination will come crashing down. One day furries and non-furries alike will be able to attend the same schools together, drink from the same water fountains.

One day, being a furry will no longer be considered a mental disorder, and hate crimes against furries will no longer be a heinous pock mark on society. Furries hopefully will stop being abused, raped, lynched, and deprived of the basic human rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

One day, the Furry Civil Rights movement will make itself known and succeed, for the sake of all furkind.

dsljkdf okay I'm not into Avatar, but I'm totally going 8D at the timing of a secret about the two shounen loves of my teenage years, right after I just recently reread both of them from start to finish.

I felt like Ruroken ended about where it should, even if it would've been nice to have more. Yu Yu Hakusho, though, I just flat out really wanted more of. IT'S ONLY EIGHTEEN VOLUMES C'MON, THAT'S NOT LONG AT ALL FOR A SHOUNEN MANGA. ;_;

OP - 146

(Anonymous) 2008-05-29 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
This amuses me. :D

Agreed about RuroKen; it really had a great ending. As for Yu Yu Hakusho, I usually watch the anime (while idly collecting the manga), but I thought the ending wasn't too bad; I mean, they could have expanded a bit more during the last arc, but I preferred it ending than to dragging it out forever. ...but is it really only 18 volumes? I thought it would have been longer.

[identity profile] just-believe.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)

TRAVELER!!!! I miss that show so much!

The plans for the rest of the series probably would have broken me, too. There was sooo much horrible angst planned. I can't go through that with another series.

102 Heh, definitely not always the case, but I'd say if they've talked to you about more than just the fic, it's a safe bet. *zips lip*

116 So much word I have goosebumps. Seriously, I've only been in real love once and even *I* know that a) first love =/= only love, and that b) not everyone loves only one person, even if they get to BE with that person, especially if they LOSE that person.

Remus in DH was mangled beyond repair, and the relationship stuff was hideously written, but that doesn't make the fact of the buildup of it any less meaningful, or, at lest, it shouldn't. I make it a point to try not to let poor writing in following books ruin good characterizations in earlier ones.

118 That is totally NOT a lamp. LOL. Or, rather, I never would have seen the lamp if you hadn't have told me it was there. Oh, well. For the record, though, I used to write het... until I found the AWESOME that is slash... god, I'm such a convert.

122 I used to think so, I really did? And then I ended up with someone that blew all of those guys out of the water. I don't know how I ever deserve him, for real.

133 Yep, that's true. Though, I do still love it. Go you for being able to be honest about how you feel about a show and still like it for its merits. \o/

138 Heart and Souls and Only You are the reason why I have a RDJ fetish. I feel like I did back when Elmo suddenly became all popular and I was like 'I liked him back when he was on THE FRUGAL GORMET! GO AWAY, NEWBS. ><

149 Holy tl;dr, batman.

151 Oh man, I worry that some of my friends online will feel like that sometimes :(

154 You ruined it for yourself. If other people's likes and dislikes about a series and what they write/talk about ruins a series for you, it's no one's fault but your own. Why do you need other people to augment your liking of a series? I mean, yeah, fandom is fun, it can make or break your liking of something, and maybe I'm harping on semantics, but you mean 'you ruined a perfectly fine FANDOM,' right? If you really mean the series, I think YOU need to get a life. Or perhaps some perspective.

158 REPEAT!

174 KEVIN KLINE! OMG!! <3<3 That guy is amazingly sexy, it's a shame I always forget him because I haven't seen him in anything recently. All my men are over 40 too. *high fives*

Yes, I get exactly what you mean. It wasn't until I started reading fanfic that I understood what a huge deal people make out of someones sexual orientation. That not living a heteronormative lifestyle can have so big consequences for some people. I always thougth (somewat naively, apparently) that it was just, well you bring a girl instead of a guy as your date. That it might be a bit awkward telling your family, but so is a lot of stuff...
