I think it's mostly the anime (though I've only watched a little bit of one episode - I couldn't stand Goku's voice). In the manga he looks like a teenager at least.

lol what 3. Even if I wasn't a Mohinder/Sylar shipper and thought Sylar is only sexual for Mohinder, I'd still think you're a twat, especially the part where you believe Sylar can't be gay because he's too badass. I really hope you're a troll.

168. Are you kidding me? If anything girls who prefer shounen to shoujo are far more common than the opposite. Trust me on this, I'm one who prefers shoujo and our communities and fandoms for even the most popular series are always much smaller and lacking in fanworks compared to those of popular shounen. And our shows don't get subbed... *grumble*

Sorry, I've always held that rant back and it came out at a bad time.

Oh my fucking god the scene where Adiene beats Viral makes me want to curl up in a ball and WEEP UNTIL I PASS OUT FROM CRYING TOO HARD. H-he's so *brave* and sh-she's so *mean* and he didn't even do anything *wrong* and he j-just *stands there* and keeps talking and, and she's not even doing it for a reason, just because she wants to, and, and Viral just takes it all in stride, because staying true to his own personal code of honor is so important to him, and she just - keeps hitting him -

Brb, need to weep.

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
153: Number 5 right? I love that movie. I think people mainly just mock it because Shatner directed, but really, it's not so bad! (And film 6 is boring.)

rant and lol what 3

[identity profile] lucia-tanaka.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Everytime someone puts "this is a secret because", I get so pissed. Someone should not have to validate their FSs like that. And I know they do it because if they don't, they may get stuck in the N!S line.

Can't we just assume that these people have reason to keep these things secret?

lol what 3: You know what? One day, I'm going to write a tv show with one character being a bad ass motherfucker who makes Samuel L. Jackson look like a pussy. And that character with be gay gay gay gay gay. Because all of these "oh no, he's not gay, he doesn't fit an overdone stereotype!" people piss me off.

When I make secrets, I always include that line even though I hate it to no end as well. The secret isn't a secret if the mods don't like it, that's the judging standard even they admitted themselves.

"I hated it" was referring to "watched this in class". It was an amazing movie, it moved me, but I hated how I was near tears, since I hate crying at school.

Does that make more sense?

I'm not sure why I'm replying to you, considering you're probably just a troll, but I have to say that's a really petty reason to hate an anime/manga series.

The only former BNF from Harry Potter fandom I know if is [livejournal.com profile] bookshop. That's ONE, not a lot.

And I like a lot of other sports series other than tenipuri. I've read and enjoyed Whistle, Captain Tsubasa, Over Rev, Initial D, Slam Dunk, Yawara the judo girl, Tennis Court under the Blue Sky, and Harlem Beat.

lolwhat!2. I call not-troll. Considering I had a friend in high school who actually believed all these things (and was otherwise a perfectly decent, intelligent young woman). There are, y'know, people who still believe these things and who don't live under bridges.

I'm not saying it's a healthy or realistic way to look at the world, or one I even remotely agree with. But there are far scarier aspects to Christian fundamentalism, none of which any of us knows for sure does or doesn't apply to the OP, and just because you think someone's beliefs are nuts doesn't mean it's any less uncomfortable for them to be questioning them.

So, yeah. Way to go to the vast majority of f!s for laughing at what could easily be someone's very real crisis of faith.

I'm going to regret posting this non-anonymously, I'm sure, because I avoid serious discussion like the plague 99 times out of a hundred. I just don't want anyone thinking I'm a sock.

And if this does prove to be a troll, I'm going to feel rather silly. But I still don't think it merits mockery.

Re: *hunkers down*

[identity profile] nai-is-not.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You've said this more eloquently than I could have. <3

And to the OP: I went to high school with the same girl as [livejournal.com profile] custardpringle, and I'll add that she eventually became a feminist while still keeping her faith. You can have both worlds, trufax. :-)

[identity profile] ketchupblood.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
)< Um. Yeah. Either you have been raised in an EXTREMELY CONSERVATIVE household (I mean extremely conservative, because we go to a church that is basically Puritan and I haven't heard anything nearly that sexist), whoever raised you raised you wrong (bible-wise, anyways), or you're a troll. I lean towards the last.

[personal profile] karel 2008-05-29 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't normally reply to secrets that are filed in the "other" category, but it escapes me how this is not a secret. Is it the religious context? Anyway, warning, this is kind of teal deer, which is why I didn't put it in my first comment. And I'm thinking you're not a troll -- I've known people who thought like this :\

Honestly, it's my firm belief that a lot of what the Bible says about women "being submissive" is taken terribly out of context. Especially Paul's writings, seeing as how he was such a misogynistic jerk (in the Apocrypha, Peter had to reprimand him for some of the things he wrote, convenient they left that out, no? ty, Roman Catholic church?). A lot of it was incident-specific and not meant to be applied to all situations. The thing about women keeping quiet in church? It was because they were speaking up in what would be an inappropriate situation for anyone to speak up. Paul just apparently felt the need to single them out >>' If you're truly interested in what's said on the subject, one rather useful passage is the entirety of Proverbs 31.

I'm sure there are many others, plus there's some pretty kickass chicks in the Bible. Rehab (who was a prostitute), Deborah (female judge), Jael (killed an enemy commander in a pretty vicious way, winning a pretty huge victory for the Israelites), etc. Bravery seems to be praised in women, with the examples of the bleeding woman in the gospels, Esther, Mary, etc. This whole "submissive" idea seems to have been blown way out of context when it comes to a lot of New Testament writings :\

I predict that posting this non-anon is going to be the death of me, but I think it's more supportive to see a logged-in comment than an anonymous one.

A woman of valor who can find? She is more precious than rubies.

:)

I am not exactly a Biblical scholar, but my mom is an artist and did a series of wall hangings about powerful Biblical women when I was a kid. So I do remember that bit.

. . . hi, I actually come to be amused that after seven pages of comments we both (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomsecrets/163142.html?thread=58495558#t58495558) decided to say this at once.
