Remakes you want Vs Remakes no-one ever wanted.

[personal profile] thewakokid 2017-07-29 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Just really an excuse for me to bring up how utterly boggled of the mind I am to learn that there is an Overboard remake in the works staring Anna Farris. I mean... I kinda liked the film when I was a kid and didn't really understand some of the more... iffy bits, but nowadays... nah, bruv, I don't think this will work. If we're re-making Goldie Hawn movies, how about Bird on a Wire?

Point Break. Why did they even bother?

Did they? I mean, yes, why did they even bother, but I didn't know they had. Was it terrible?

It's looking like Flatliners is falling into that second category.

I want a The Neverending Story remake. Disney needs to buy those rights.

I cant really remember that movie. I'm aware of it's existance, but I never felt like I was missing it. How wrong am I?

I don't want a remake, I want a new adaptation that covers the entire book. I have great nostalgia for the original movie (and the movie is the only reason I even read the book in the first place) but I think a proper adaptation would be great.

LOL! I'll settle for just a Hobbit remake.

Re: Remakes you want Vs Remakes no-one ever wanted.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-29 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Overboard is definitely something that should not be remade. I feel like a lot of 80s movies had really "iffy" parts and I can watch them within the context of their time (and many I watched as a kid when I didn't know better) but they are entirely too fucked up to put into a modern context.

Like Weird Science is one I can think of. Also parts of Sixteen Candles. Those movies need to stay in the 80s.

I'd totally watch a re-make of weird science. I loved Lisa. Goddam, I need to re-watch that. I think that could be re-made without any iffy elements. It's a solid story. Horny teens want the prefect girl, make a sex genie, she runs circles around them because they have no idea about women or what they really want, everyone laughs.

Some movies you can get past the 80'sness of them. Overboard is pretty flawed from the concept up. "So she's lost her memory and this hillbilly tricks her into thinking they're married..." you just can't get past that

I never saw Weird Science, but I was just thinking about Sixteen Candles the other day and I came to the same conclusion.

Don't worry, if anything, they'll probably sanitize the crap out of it until it's a husk of the original.

there is talk of an American live-action remake of One Piece

One Piece is my favorite manga and series, I am obsessed. I DO NOT WANT AN AMERICAN LIVE ACTION VERSION.

I mean I suppose it could work, but my faith is kinda on the low side for that.

Nicolas Cage thought it was a great idea to remake The Wicker Man. He was very wrong.

Also any and all American remakes of non-American movies annoy me. Especially when they win Oscars for the remakes (looking at you, The Departed).

They did an American remake of Wings of Desire (City of Angels) but I like to pretend it never happened.

(I didn't even see it to be honest.)

I'd love to see a British, live action adaptation of Victorian Romance Emma.

Honestly, I think the main reason they're doing an Overboard remake is because Anna Faris is the Goldie Hawn of our times. That and it's a typical boringly conservative Hollywood decision to go with a remake of a known property rather than trying something new.

Re: Remakes you want Vs Remakes no-one ever wanted.

Overboard is one of my favorite movies that I didn't actually discover until I was like 18 or 19. I love despite acknowledging that the sex scene is rape. I have almost no interest in the remake in the works with Anna Faris, and I can't imagine her having chemistry with Eugenio Derbez, though I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

I want more original IP across the board. I know there are movies out there I wouldn't mind remakes of, but I can't think of what they are at the moment. I'm always on the fence about a Clue remake. On the one hand I want it because I love Clue and want more people to love Clue, but I absolutely don't want it because Clue is a classic and I don't have faith that a remake would be nearly as funny.

Honestly? There is only one remake I want right now...but it's slightly tainted by the thought that it'll get the same treatment that Sailor Moon got )i.e. made so cheaply and animated so badly i'd flip ALL the tables). Granted, I liked SMC (season 3 mostly), but still...

I want a PROPER adaption of the manga for Gundam Wing Endless Waltz The Glory of the Defeated.

I know it adds a few things that sorta bridges it with that catastrophe Frozen Teardrop...but I'm willing to swallow that if it means that ALL of the previously not added character stuff makes it into the show. The stuff from Episode Zero and Blind Target: Ground Zero would be added and it'd make a fuller feeling series (not to mention some of the hints at certain things a bit earlier, like seeing the blueprints for Epyon AGES before we actually see the gundam itself).

That and the ver Ka versions of the Gundams. I know that's a toss up. Some people prefer the old shows versions. But these versions actually make the segue into their EW suits MAKE MORE SENSE. The ONLY Gundam that basically stays the same is now referred to as Proto Wing Zero. It's basically Wing Zero from the show. But Wing Gundam and Wing Gundam Zero Custom share the design similarities.

I just...!! I LOVE Gundam Wing. But I want to see it rebooted, ANIMATED WELL and more cleanly, with more story and those gorgeous designs...

But I know I'm never gonna get it. Hell, we can even get the damn original series on Blu-Ray over here, despite the fact that Japan has had it on Blu-Ray for YEARS now.
