113.- Because when Japanese artist publish a lame story with copy paste art, bad anatomy and plot clichés that come from copying a tv tropes list, it's 'art' and 'meaningful' and 'kawaii' or something. When an american artist publish a story that might look a little bit like a manga (Regardless of the actual quality of the story) it's a lame story with copy paste art, bad anatomy and a copy of Dragon Ball Z or Sailor Moon depending on the gender of the author (Even if said story has nothing to do with Journey to the West OR pretty magical princess)

I saw it when I was about 12 on Showtime & was completely fascinated [WEIRDKIDINORITE?] But I'm watching it again now & have completely fallen in love with the characters. Especially Emmett & Mikey. It's hard to talk to IRL friends about though, cause if you want to show it to them, you have to watch buttsex with them & that's a little awkward, at least in the case of my friends :\

147. See, it was the opposite way for me. I saw my first Halloween movie when I was 8, and didn't discover fanfiction until I was 12, so reading all of the "SLASH!!!" summaries really confused me. I thought everybody liked seeing the characters die horribly. o_o

Actually, I also got into slasher films long before I got into fanfiction, but I never knew the proper term for them (I always just called them "horror films").

105. Maybe you should see it not as the anime saving someone's life, but someone's epiphany upon watching it? It's easy to say a person show feel/think a certain way, hard to make them actually do it. A lot of people need external reassurances about their self-worth; saying "just love yourself!" might feel like "stop breathing!" on terms of impossibility scale.

It has, if you actually look at any of it, some (http://www.onemanga.com/Monster/1/08/) extremely (http://www.onemanga.com/Dragonball/2/10/) varied (http://www.onemanga.com/Beauty_is_the_Beast/2/04/) drawing (http://www.onemanga.com/Bishoujo_Senshi_Sailor_Moon/1/08/) styles (http://www.onemanga.com/Count_Cain_-_GodChild/1/009/) all under that one label. Just because they draw more like this (http://i28.tinypic.com/2lbdq89.jpg) than like this (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/59/Akane_-_Tough,_but_vulnerable.jpg/250px-Akane_-_Tough,_but_vulnerable.jpg) doesn't mean they're any more original. And I'm sorry, but if you're reading something for more than just the "zomg squee pretty pictures! 8DDDD" you should know by now that THE PLOT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE GODDAMN DRAWING STYLE. So by labelling Japanese manga as completely, immediately superior to Korean, American, or any other versions, you're being kind of a judgemental stuck-up prick.

But then again, the comparison to "omg designer bags!" makes me think you're probably pretty shallow anyway, so. The fact that a lot of professional comic, TV, etc art is being influenced by the manga/anime style and its elements probably just seems like laziness instead of recognizing the merits of something done well, huh?

In short, I HATE when people use this word, since 99% of the time they're Doin It Wrong, but I feel pretty goddamn safe in calling you a weeaboo if you seriously think that only Japanese manga are worth reading and anyone else doing it is just lazy copying. Seriously. Grow up.
