I actually agree with you, the idea of them catering to a vocal minority of internet fans like that really pisses me off, but is it absolutely confirmed? (I dropped out of fandom awhile ago because of the female character hate, so.)

103: Yeah, Kripke said that he wasn't really happy with where the character of Jo was going and took into account the fan reaction when he made the decision to let her go. To be honest, I think that he only cans characters when he agrees with the criticism directed towards them, because at a convention he basically told the Ruby haters to stfu and that she wasn't going anywhere.

But they had to let Katie Cassidy go because they can no longer afford her, so we'll see how this plays out for Ruby's character in season four.

103: Well, I have to say that I loved Jo up until No Exit. I do not think Bela is awesome, though, and I'm SO glad she's gone because she never clicked with me. However, it's not 100% sure that Ruby has been written out. Katie Cassidy isn't coming back because they apparently can't afford her anymore, but Sera Gamble did an interview recently that said that Ruby would have a bigger role in season four. So we'll see.

And anyway, those three are not the awesome women on SPN. Awesome women would be Kathleen from The Benders, Kat from Asylum, Haley from Wendigo, Missouri from Home, Layla from Faith, MEG, Ellen... seriously, the show needs to bring back some of THOSE ladies. The new ones pale in comparison.

Agreed. Though I was sad to hear about the departure of Katie Cassidy -- I thought she had really improved, and I loved the character.

Also, I'd have to add Lenore to that list. And I hated Jo at the beginning, but loved her in Born Under a Bad Sign -- and I love the actress, so I wish she could come back.

105) I think you're missing the point. People derive "salvation" from the most random things. Sometimes, it's the message carried within a story. Sometimes, it's something as simple as having something to look forward to. I don't think that anyone really wishes to only have fandom to hang on to, but if that's what keeps them going, then let them hang on to it. And if they're aware that something's wrong in their life that causes them to have to turn to fandom, then they can begin to cope.
